Hi Ian, I love your landscapes.. great colors and composition. I love this site too the fact you can comment and rate each others pics.

I just joined Phot.net and started uploading a few of my pics about a week ago.. not being a member is a real hassel to get rated or critiqed. I've been waiting over 2 days to send in a new pic for critique (only 1 a day allowed for non-members).

Looking at your portfolio I know I'm up against a seasoned photographer. I would really appreciate your comments and suggestions to improve my pics .

Thanks Herbie

Thank you all for your kind words about my portfolios. I have a confession to make. This is the first time I have looked at my own pictures by visiting through another persons site. I didn't have any idea comments could be left on portfolios too. In short I apologise for not answering any queries or requests. Any new comments will be attended too.

I thought I have seen all the best landscape shots in this site, not until I lay my eyes on yours. Really like your shots, mainly due to its myriad juxtaposition instead of just relying on the tried and tested sunset sunrise formula. Keep it up !

The light and vivid colors of your landscapes takes my breath away! I haven't visited your portfolio until today when I saw your photo of the lighthouse on Skye. That light on the emerald green headland with the dark sky in the background is something I have seen in my travels several times but never captured in a photo. Wow, a superb portfolio! Would make a splendid photo book about Scotland.

Neil Murray , May 09, 2006; 11:55 P.M.

Ian, what a splendid gallery of landscape photos you present here; such beautiful scenes, captured in vivid colours and perfectly composed . I particularly like your Scottish landscapes, both for your masterly depictions, and for the fact that I recognise some of the locations. I lived and worked in Glasgow in the early 1970s and travelled over much of Scotland then and on subsequent trips back there over the years.

The Highlands offer so many spectacular opportunities for photography. I know I have taken many photos there over the years but nothing approaching the superlative quality of yours. I am just starting to try some landscapes and coming across your portfolio has certainly given me inspiration to try harder.

I got a kick out of reading the lyrical, almost poetic, commentaries you leave with your photo requests. You paint a picture with your words as well as with your camera. Lang may your lum reek. Kind regards, Neil

Robert Coney , May 11, 2006; 12:37 P.M.

Dear All

First of all I want to thank you all very much for your kind words and appreciation in respect of my photographs. It has been a pleasure to provide you with a view through my eyes.

Unfortunately I have become a very jaded and discouraged by what I perceive as political/tactical voting on Photo Net, which I feel has so undermined some of my recent work, that it simply won't be seen by others and will therefore, not be appreciated by a sufficient number of folk to make it worthwhile me spending the time and effort of uploading them.

It is with great regret that "Blue Jetty" will be my last upload. I wish all of you the very best with your own photography and I will of course drop in from time to time to look at the very fine work of other photographers.

All the best

Ian.

John Patrick , August 19, 2006; 08:58 A.M.

I understand your reasons, but that's a genuine shame Ian. In between the apparent 'tactical' votes, there are a lot of people taking time to give genuine, honest and constructive feedback here though, and I hope that'll continue.

Your portfolio's definitely one of my favourites here on photo.net and I hope to continue to see your work elsewhere.

cheers,

John.

Ian

Thank you for sharing the wonderful images with us. What is more astonishing to me is not only the amazing quality of your work, but all the places you have managed to visit, and seeked out to be captured by your imagination and camera.

What makes it even better is your minimalistic approach to the use of PS. I salute you.

Modesty apart

Ian, you are an excellent photographer but your weakness is, clearly, lack of modesty. I haven't rated any of your photographs (mainly because I stopped rating a few months ago. I prefer just a plain helpful comment) but I enjoy visiting your site. Now, acting like a spoiled child because someone (with an opinion to respect) give you the rating you (with another opinion) think you don't deserve is another matter. Post in PN if you want to share your images but not if you are only looking for praise to make you feel better. Shame that you stopped posting but remember that there are lots of other great photographers here and some of them, wether you like it or not, are better than you.

I think there is an option to avoid ratings in PN (submit for critique only). You could use this if you are open to critiques as you claim.

Ian Cameron , October 06, 2006; 11:33 P.M.

Reply Gorka

When have I ever said there aren't some great photographers on PNet. Of course there are, Mr Rarinda is a bloody genius, whether entirely photographic or not and I whole heartedly acknowledge that. Crikey I even rate others work very highly take a look at my average ratings. What's more I visit the site regularly and enjoy looking at other folks work and even find myself with more time to comment. Folk prefer to look at others work, I have acknowledged that, if they didn't they would comment on mine. Yes I like my work to be praised, don't you? Surely then we are barking up the same tree, since I apparently disagree with nothing you've said. So why continue posting on a site that is clearly out of my league, where my pics are simply not good enough to be seen by anyone. Am I not wasting my time, would I not be better off in a smaller pond where I could swim proudly along with fish my own size. Photonet doesn't need me and perhaps I don't need Photonet.

Nathanael Lacaria , October 12, 2006; 01:21 A.M.

wow

your portfolio makes me wish i could go full-frame.

thank you.

Micheal Kraml , October 12, 2006; 01:50 P.M.

Inspiration

Ian, why to keep on posting photos on a website that's not in your class? To inspire other photographers. A picture is worth a thousand words. Seeing a great photograph is worth of a full book on photography. Even if your photos don't get posted on the main page of PN, you still have many folks who know where to find your portfolio. You help those with your pics. Is it not worth it? Even if your pictures would help a handful of photographers to improve, wouldn't it be worth it? How long does it take to upload a picture? Are those couple of minutes of extra work such a bother? Keep on posting your photos and don't worry about exposure and politics in ratings. Let those things take care of themselves. Cheers, Micheal

Ian Cameron , October 12, 2006; 04:34 P.M.

Reply Micheal

Thank you Micheal, you are very kind with your comments and I applaud your "to hell with them" approach. I have already decided that if I do ever decide to start posting on Pnet again, it will be the "NOT for rating" section, as I hold the ratings system generally, in so little regard. To be perfectly honest though, my work does appear on a number of other sites that I hold in much higher esteem. If anybody sends me a personal request for assistance or advice, to date I don't think I have ever failed to respond. Does it take a great deal of time to upload an image, no not really, but as I've pointed out before, the recent response to my work on Pnet hasn't exactly encouraged me to depress the upload image key.

If anyone is genuinely keen to see more of my work and see the response I am getting from others then visit my galleries on www.pbase.com then give me a good reason why I should bother placing new work on Photonet.

Clayton Berg , October 15, 2006; 02:48 A.M.

Micheal said it all I think. While I think I've made some strides in the last year or so, whenever I want to remind myself that I've got a long ways to go I visit your portfolio to see how it's supposed to be done.

You have your legitiment reasons for not wanting to contibute here. But just know that your work has been appreciated and continues to inspire.

Chris Stachura , October 23, 2006; 08:33 A.M.

Ian, I'm a great enthusiast of your art - since may 2004 when I became photo.net member, your fantastic photos are inspiration for me. You have many "classic" shots, which I always keep in memory and which always will be "embellishment" of photo.net. You are a master of light. Wish you (and your team - Timecatchers) best light conditions and wonderful time spent in nature capturing beauty of the world.

A.K. Sircar , October 28, 2006; 07:52 A.M.

Superb!

Ian, you are a talented artist with camera. Your images are excellent in all respects. Best regards.

Ken Simm , November 10, 2006; 04:08 A.M.

I wish I had discovered your folio earlier. I stand in awe at your use of light and composition. I am also saddened although I understand your disapointment with the voting system on PN. I would love to see more of your work. Regards Ken.

Ian Cameron , November 11, 2006; 10:14 A.M.

Reply to Ken

Thanks ken, I'm very pleased you enjoy my work if you are really wanting to see some more of it I feel compelled to direct you to www.transientlight.co.uk or to www.pbase.com (larger images) look in popular galleries (90 day or all time lists). Once again I am afraid the latest information i have received in respect of the voting system on Pnet has done nothing to restore my confidence or encourage me to start posting again.

Ian, I am amazed...

I am truly humbled by your work. I cannot call myself a photographer till I can capture the world half as as exquisitely as you have. Wow, such great imagery, makes me want to do more.

This is truly a fantastic Portfolio. Please tell me your not an armature; that would really depress me :) I haven't looked at the details for all the photo's but it seems you don't use digital? How do you manage to keep the sharpness and colour after they have been re sampled? Mine tend to loose something once I have resized them. I would be interested to know. Thanks for the pleasure and please keep posting.

Many Thanks folks

A big thankyou to everyone that still takes time to visit my gallery. I really do appreciate it and check back often. I don't post here anymore because I strongly disapprove of the voting system and the political/tactical voting that sees a lot of the best work never being seen. Never-the-less I think that some of the work in Photo Net is terrific and I now find myself with a little more time to comment on some of the work that really excites me. So once again thanks and be assured I do notice your comments on my admittedly aging gallery.

I expect I'll post another image 01 Jan 2008 to welcome in the New Year

au revoir

Ian.

Michael Stirling-Aird , April 21, 2007; 07:24 P.M.

Ian - I think your work is the most outstanding of any landscape photographer focusing on Scotland that I have seen - by a mile. One request - will you post your wonderful Jurassic View picture (perhaps not for rating - I agree with your comments) which is shown on Transientlight? Kind regards, Michael.

Richard Gale , April 24, 2007; 09:05 A.M.

Ian, you have so many beautiful landscape images I've very much enjoyed viewing thanks for sharing them with us. Richard.

Ian Cameron , May 25, 2007; 06:08 A.M.

Back Again!!

Hi folks!!

After a long absense from this site (at least in terms of posting work), I have decided to have another go. I will be doing it only on a critique basis NOT for ratings, as I still believe it to be completely flawed. You can assume that I have posted the image because I personally enjoy it, if you do too please feel free to say so. If you don't, then by all means say so, but please qualify it with a reason. I am pretty thick skinned and may not necessarily agree with your critique but that is both yours and mine prerogative.

Many thanks Ian

Breathtaking

Ian-you are truly a master photographer. I enjoy your work here and at timecatcher-what a talented group. When someone tells me my work is good I look at your work for a little humble pie! As far as ratings and comments go-I first check out their site if it is nonexistant or just poor quality I just ignore them-I a am sure you don't need my "wisdom" but every chance I get I repeat this information because these individuals just tick me off. Please keep posting for the many of us who admire your skills. Paul

Excellent Portfolio!!!

Hello Ian, Congrats on being chosen POW! and Wow!, what a bee-hive of comment activity your "Blair Christmas" has generated (March 17, 2008). Possibly it is a case of even a bad comment is better than no comment at all. I'm not completely convinced of that statement but it is a possibility. The point of my comment is to say that I liked your rendition of a winter pond with sunset and for me what it captures is a reflective moment and a warm feeling inside in spite of the cold temperature and. No, I wouldn't suggest how you should have taken the picture: with or without filters, B&W or colour - saturated or muted, crop with or without railing etc... To some of your critics who offered suggestions: Isn't it obvious, the way you displayed it IS the way you intended your image to be viewed. You are in possession of an excellent portfolio that can?t be disputed. Maybe the main purpose of the PhotoNet elves is to generate controversy.

Olga Hannah , March 21, 2008; 04:22 P.M.

Your photos had opened a windows to heaven for me and I felt fresh wind of beauty and harmony on my face... I feel recovering from despare and tiredness... And if those views had been taken on this planet - than we still have hope to turn our life to world peace and harmony!!! Thank YOU very much!!! OH, 21/03.08

Hi Ian, I admire your work enormously, studying this collection of wonderful images just reinforces that view. The 'Transient Light' calender graces our kitchen wall again this year, I look at 'Skye Cascade' every time I make a cup of tea (in May), very inspirational. Keep up the great work.

Tim Sandstrom , May 23, 2008; 01:54 A.M.

Certainly one of the finer portfolios I've seen here. Top-notch work, inspirational, not-uber-hyped like some but even handed in your tones. Enough to make a b&w guy like me start eyeing the velvia... :)

Tony Hadley , May 29, 2008; 08:46 P.M.

Tremendous images. congrats.

Rob Wilson , June 08, 2008; 04:12 P.M.

Keep up the great work,

Cheers

David Meiner , June 24, 2008; 09:06 P.M.

Ian, you have a superb collection of work here! Your vibrant colors are wonderful and you capture some truly outstanding shots. I have added you to my list of those to check back on over time, and I look forward to seeing future photos. Congratulations. You are an inspiration.

Michael Mancil , August 13, 2008; 05:59 P.M.

Wow... what a wonderful portfolio. I will certainly return and pick some favorites. Right now I'm just scanning the menu for a main course. Using the light you're given and shooting for the beauty of the moment... I think that 's a fair paraphrase of one of your comments. I find that a refreshing and admirable approach. Thank you for sharing these fantastic images.... Mike
