Oh... Buttercups

Your right... I always call them buttercups. They look like cups and their yellow, like butter- makes logical sense. I believe also in Alice in Wonderland the Mad Hatter is drinking from a tea cup that looks like a daffodil, probably where I get "cup" stuck in my head with these.

Thanks for the comment- I'll change the title.

Micki F. , May 07, 2007; 06:55 P.M.

BOB, your portfolio is WAY COOL too!

I always enjoy returning and finding out what have your kids been up to and what have you got your son wearing today.

You have got the knack for REAL pictures and nothing fake and I love that. See them as they are.

I will always return.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on one of my photos. You have a very nice portfolio. I especially like the beach scenes.

Jeff Germo , May 12, 2007; 06:29 P.M.

keep it up

Hi Bob, thanks stopping by and commenting on my portfolio. You've got a great start here. The main thing is to keep shooting. Shoot as many as you can and learn from each shot you take. And don't pay attention to the 3/3s. They are very annoying for me too. Learn as much as you can about exposure. Keep adding more photos. I'll be back. Jeff

JeffS L , May 17, 2007; 05:30 A.M.

Greeting back from a fellow Bostonian (although I've only been here a couple years so I probably don't qualify yet). Nice and lively portfolio, particularly the family pics and the pics of the coast. It seems we gravitate toward the same subject matter. I think you'll find in switching to a DSLR that your flexibility and accuracy will improve dramatically. I'm looking for a new one as well, so we'll have to compare notes. I'm looking forward to your Cape photos. Mine are all taken in Sandwich, and I need to venture further down the Cape for better shots. Thanks for kind comments. I'll check back with you, too.

Brian Winn , May 17, 2007; 10:47 P.M.

You've commented on a couple of my photos and I appreciate your comments. I like your bird shots, I still have not been able to capture any decent shots of birds.

Francisco Ribeiro do Vale , May 21, 2007; 10:10 P.M.

Thanks Bob for ratting on of my photos. YOur portifolio is beautiful. I enjoyed very much the landscapes and family. Congrats.

Vamsi Krishna , May 21, 2007; 10:34 P.M.

Hey Bob!

Thanks very much indeed for the comment on my photograph! I surely did notice the little flaw :) and I shall take care the next time I get a shot. Well, I'm very new to photography and this is my first ever SLR camera which I bought in January 2007. Hence, I'm still in the process of learning the subtle play of shutterspeed and aperture. I really want to get myself a digital SLR but unfortunately, I don't have enough money for that at the moment. Maybe a couple of more months and I should have one after I mastered this one :)

Best regards,

Vamsi Krishna

Bob, thanks for the nice comment on my portfolio. Yes, we do enjoy the Cape and the islands. By the way, you have a real fine portfolio and I agree with one of the above comments- you take "real" photos! Well done my friend!-Best Regards, Marty

Good start on your folio.... Looking forward to seeing more.

Clystie Pruden , June 01, 2007; 10:53 P.M.

Bob, your pictures are great . I love the one with the mist on the daisy. When are you going to put it in to be critiqued? Clystie Pruden

Bob Belanger , June 01, 2007; 11:21 P.M.

I'm not sure which flower you are referring to, I don't have a daisy. If you mean the pansy, well I've been resisting the temtation to post too much, my wife wants me to put up the hanging moth next. I also have a lot of other nice flowers that will come in time. I've held back on paying the subscription because I wanted to take it slow at the begining. I can only post and add one photo per 24 hours. So, instead of putting everything up all at once I can take it slowly and find out what works. My goal is 90 days and then I think I'll commit but I think I'm here to stay for a little while anyway. Thanks for looking and well be in touch.

Alibek M , June 02, 2007; 12:12 P.M.

You have a perfect sight on landscapes. Most of them are not very sophisticated, yet beautiful enough to be a good example of the work in genre.

Actually, I haven't found a lot of fishing pictures there yet - nevertheless, the one you showed me was stunning. Thank you for commenting-on my work; I highly appreciate it.

I shall expect to see more of your images... so keep shooting and posting!

All of the best, Alibek

Nicholes Turner , June 04, 2007; 11:14 P.M.

Bob, thanks for your comment on my funny dog pic, you have some great shots in your portfolio, like many say your pictures are day to day real life and no one captures it like you do. Love your pic of dog on the beach. Cheers

Rick Sanford, III , June 05, 2007; 11:59 A.M.

Bob, Thanks for the comment. Hardest part about that particular shot was the Hawk was in a cage and the camera wanted to focus on the cage wire and not the bird. I had been using a Canon EOS Rebel G film camera for about 5 years and just the past Christmas decided to treat myself to a Digital Rebel. I probably take about 500 hundred pictures of random stuff a week but only a few make the cut. Your portfolio is very well rounded and has a lot of very nice pictures. Regards, Rick III

Bob, Thanks for your kind words on my flower shot. I really like your portfolio. Is the boy in your "people" shots your son? He reminds me of myself and my nephew...goofy. And I mean that in a very fun way. You have a great subject and some very cool shots.

Firstoff, please accept my thanks for your constructive critique of my first photo.net uploaded picture. I was testing my new Nikon 18-200 VR lens at the time.

Your portfolio is awesome. I particularly love your landscape shots!!

I'll remember to ignore the 3/3 ratings. Thanks for the advise, and i'll be looking out for more of your pictures.

Hi Bob, I agree with your thoughts on the image of chloe. I am going to print the pic without the inside frame. I need to get going on the song club, but new puppy and home relocation is making it very difficult. Looks like so much fun. Thanks for stopping by, Laura Larson

David Stevens , September 24, 2007; 09:51 P.M.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on my latest picture. I too, would have liked more detail in the sky above the trees. I pushed "the envelope" with PS but every time I squeezed a bit more, it did some nasty things to the color of the leaves. But that was back in 2006. I have become a bit more skilled with PS, maybe now is the time to start "tweaking some of the older shots.

Thanks again. OH and I spent some time rambling through your fine collection and I continue to be impressed with your talents behind the shutter.

Bob Belanger? From Southboro?

Hey Bob,

I came across your portfolio after seeing some comments you left on another person's images. You have some nice stuff.

I have to ask...I knew a Bob Belanger years ago in high school. I grew up in Southboro, MA. Are you the same Bob Belanger? That would make it a heck of a small world.

I hope all is well with you, behind the lens and in the rest of life.

Hello Bob,

First and for all, thank you for visiting and commenting on a two of my recent critique forum submission - which in fact gave me the opportunity to discover your works. In summary, I found a variety of scenes, moods and color combinations which you converted masterly into attrative photographic documents.I think your 'Chatham' folder is extraordinary and a true representative for the variety in your works. I will pop in from time to time to see what's new in you folders and to refresh my memory a bit. Have a nice day Bob - wherever you may be! Regards, El.

Dragon Unfolding

Thanks, Bob, for the high praise! In fact, I hadn't previously submitted any of my dragonfly images for critique as the bar has been raised high by other, more technically proficient photogs. As for the bokeh, I'm pretty happy with the way the 105 Micro-Nikkor handles this. Cheers, Nancy

roger sonneland , December 03, 2008; 07:40 P.M.

Bob, after viewing your lovely image yesterday, decided to come back for a more serious look today. Your 'baby bella' folder has really made me think it is time for grandchildren. Im now 62, have 5 healthy kids, and so far not one of them has made any sort of indication towards having babies. Anyway from babies i wandered around a bit and discovered your 'happy 50' folder, which i also really like. Than there is Chatham and it goes on and on. There is some really varied and interesting images in your portfolio. Lots of people images and also animal images, they tell me quite a bit about you. The one folder have not opened is your folder titled 'Plants' . I am trying to look at images other than flowers. You said somewhere you like the sea, well anymore i can not sleep unless i hear the sea, have lived about 20 feet from it now for over 30 years. Have a look if you like, www.ngaiobay.co.nz I must run back to the flower section now, loved your portfolio, shall return! All the best.......roger

Bob, thanks for visiting my Nova Scotia folder and commenting on the images there. The Lunenburg Academy is indeed an imposing structure, built on the peak of a hill overlooking the town. Apparently most Lunenburgians (??) went to school there, but it's in danger of falling into disuse as there are fewer and fewer children being born in town. That would be a tragedy! Charles Miller , July 14, 2009; 04:35 P.M.

Bob, Thank you for your comment on my shot "Morning (mourning) Tear" It is very interesting how a shot can take on a life of its own. Did you happen to look at the redone version? If so is it stronger? I like many of the shots in your portfolio. You have an interesting sense of line and design. I think I commented on Muskoka Mushroom, if it was my shot I would probably try cropping much tighter and making it even more of an abstract feel. Interestingly I have a shot almost identical to Happy 24th in my portfolio called Lily Dancer. I really like the various spiral staircase shots, there is always something very interesting about that shot. Please check out my shots and feel free to comment, it is the only way I can improve. I will be back to visit your site as well. -- Charles

I just scrolled through your portfolio, and saw some amazing diversity in subject-matter, style, and technique.  Since I added you to my "interesting" list, I plan on returning to gaze more attentively.

In the meantime, I love your quote from Pink Floyd.

"Keep a good head and carry a light bulb."  Bob Dylan, "Don't Look Back"

Thank you for commenting on my BW work, 'Sleepy Stare'. I appreciate your support and encouragement. In viewing your portfolio, the work that struck me instantly was, 'Cafe dining on a Friday night'. It quite closely resembles a mood I would have captured myself. We can learn much about life and people by engaging in dinner at our local diner on a Friday night. I can genuinely relate....Mood evoking moment we could experience through your art and eye. Best, C

Hi Bob,

Your comment on my abstract bird was very much appreciated, thus I came to see this rich body of work you have compiled. I did like Zeus (the 2 kids on the clouds) and the portrait of the fishing hound... which I found very funny.

Very best wishes
