Blues

Very nice pictures of places highlighting colour areas in blue, white, orange.

Maria Bostenaru , May 09, 2005; 07:21 A.M.

Deleted Prater photo

A pity you deleted the other Prater photo - it was the only 3/3 I've given (from more than 150 ratings). I was going to comment on the rating, that the composition is half/half, framed with no obvious rule, and with a degree of sharpness even my mobile phone manages, see self-portrait at Prater (more of them in my Austria folder btw), but until I uploaded it the photo to attach the comment was gone.

Alexandre Guerra , May 09, 2005; 09:01 A.M.

Hi Maria

Thank you very much for your comments and for viewing. About that deleted photo, I did it because I want to post a different version of it, with a different crop. And yes, partly because of not very good acceptance I decided to try it in other way.

Dorota Kaluzynska , May 24, 2005; 07:47 A.M.

Alexandre

How are you? Thank you for your wonderfully kind words. I feel that I still have a lot of learning to do. Your comments gave me a chance to look at you portfolio. You have very strong composition skills. A good eye in catching the moment. I hope to see more of you work and will return often.

All the best, Alex

Alex Robert , September 27, 2005; 11:18 A.M.

Hi Alex And Alex this is Alex ...

Man !!! Thanks for commenting on my Humble work so i could find YOURS !!!Alexandre I have to say that you are an amazingly skilled photographer : Good use of light , colors , reflections , contrasts and a true MASTER in Composition ! I absolutly love your style an approach to landscape and nature ! You tell me that you wanna do portrait , well get into it so i can see some portrait stuff of you ! It's funny cause i'm getting more into landscape photography by now and i have a lot to learn from a photographer like you ! By the way, for portrait photography Mr.Lee right above is one of the very best Here on PN IMO ...I've learn a lot from his work !

Cheers , Alex

Sigfrid Lopez , October 17, 2005; 06:27 A.M.

Alexandre, Thank you very much for your flattering comments on my portfolio, really. I am not exaggerating when I say that few rare portfolios in PN attract me a lot, but yours is certainly one of them. You've got a way to portray beauty and color that's unique, but this is not where the strenght of your pictures rely, but -as I have already commented on some of your pics- on the feelings you are able to convey. Were it only for your "Mauzoleum" pic, you should deserve a top place on PN. Thanks for sharing (and these are not empty words)!

Derick Africa , October 26, 2005; 04:06 P.M.

Alexandre, I really like you work. Your eye, composition and "style" are very creative and invoke emotion.

I like you candid shots of people very much as well. I feel they really capture the moment.

Also, thanks for taking a look and commenting on a couple of my photos. I appreciate it.

Agnieszka Iwasiewicz , October 27, 2005; 10:14 A.M.

I really like your shots. You have a great sense to capture the shapes and forms. And a considerable dose of sense of humour too. I am looking forward to more of your photos!

Hi, Alexandre

We "met" on a photo called Secret bridge, a few days ago (the discussion about "oniric"...)and I thought you're a funny guy and I wanted to see what kind of photos you are doing. I am impressed. Wonderful portfolio. I like a lot the street shots, the landscapes, the portraits... you have a great eye and you like to capture little things that escape to others. LOvely, good luck for the future!

Marco Ruggiero , November 04, 2005; 11:21 A.M.

Ciao Alexandre!

Through your interest in one of my photos, the man playing chess, I came to your portfolio and I am flattered that an artist such as you has had an interest in my work. Your portfolio is amazing, not only in the techical ability, but in the artistry that conveys a love of photography, a love of the people that you touch and the the country that sorrounds you. I have so much to learn and artists as you continue to provide that school. Thank you, Marco Ruggiero

Alexandre,

And you call yourself an amateur... Waow! Most of your pictures are so technically perfect they should be in magazines or advertising! What are you waiting for??

Alexandre Guerra , November 10, 2005; 08:41 A.M.

Shambhala, thank you you're too kind. Don't know if I deserve it [lol]. Anyway if you know about any please let me know ;)

Marco Ruggiero , November 18, 2005; 11:58 P.M.

Ciao Alexandre!

I wanted to thank you for your comment on the photo of the train in N Mexico.I left comments that I like for you to see so I am enclosing them. "I appreciate your comment very much since you point out what I really believe is the essence of this art of all of us, that is the ability to look at the same image and have alternate views of it and yet still retain the art form that was originally intended. Further those alternate views, at times, do not offer a better image but a different one equally as attractive. Lastly you pointed something that I also truly value and I thank you for recognizing it, that many times the image may not adhere to the strictest technical rules and yet still convey feelings and emotions that I beleive is what photography is all about. Thanks very much for your time and comments, very perceptive and very motivating ".

Saludos. Marco

Chau

Alexandre

You know that I like your photography and every once in a while you actually impress me over and over by reinventing yourself.

When I look at your photos I wish that you were born 20 years earlier because your eyes and visions are uncanny while the technique (digital enhancements) that you use often is not always suitable for it.

Many of your shots could've spoken louder and more convincingly if they were just taken in simple black and white or simple color shots.

For example the following shots:

http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4039550

and

http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3888888

They both have very good compositions and you have captured the moment wonderfully.

You might not have been happy with the original shot but by over compensating that fact by using the digital enhancement you have gone to a different league which I personally think of it more of a different form of art but not photography. Which is not bad but is really different.

Some of the shots that you have captures are truly have potential to be classic and priceless. Such as :

http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4031856

and

http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3421284

although both lack a little bit in technical part. Because you think like an older generation B/W photographer but you are using digital tools.

In these shots some grains will be on your side as well as elements that give the shots an earthy quality which the oily look of filtered digital shots can't be compared with it.

If you start to use an older medium format and pin down the technical parts you'll become really special. Just my opinion of course.

You can be an excellent street/architectural photographer because you see the common everyday things and love to make a story of them and have a precise sense of the right compositions...while in close up shots of people and even flowers you lose that a bit. You are a story teller so you need more elements to work with and when you have only a single object in frame you kind of lose your way around it.

All said I really looking forward to see many more of your work.

Thank you for sharing it with me.

Kind regards

M.H.

Hi. I don't think a laptop and a Lumix camera are a limitation at all in your hands. You have the eye and your portfolio is interesting. I have a Lumix FZ 5 and a Canon 300D. Sure, the Canon is better in some ways such as low-light levels, but the Lumix covers most situations extremely well.

Alexandre, you are the proof that sometimes the size of the camera is not that important. You created and posted some very good photos here, they all show a special touch of yours in a matter of perspective or composition. To have a personal touch is a great thing for a photographer, and you've got it :)

Enjoy the day.

Boa...

Alexandre, bonito portfolio, variado mas consistente. Algumas imagens de detalhe muito bonitas.Parabens.

Artur

I have enjoyed checking through your portfolio Alexandre. I've left comments on several photos that immediately appealed to me but I must say the there is quality in every one of your folders. You have a particular gift for capturing interesting aspects of life in the streets. Your landscapes and cityscapes are spectacular.

Thanks for commenting on my horse racing photo. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Kind regards, Neil

Great pics, Alexandre! I was especially touched by the words in your bio and... the title of your folder: Alternations (Warning: PSing) really made me smile :) . You're right, some people misjudge the use of PS, especially for artistic reasons. Thank you for your comment, by the way. It's this way that I find such interesting photographers. Have a good day! Forgot

Alexandre, I forgot to answer your question about my photo "Floating". Yes it was a rose petal floating in water in a clear glass vase. The right side is a bit tight. The petal was too close to the side of the vase. Thanks for your critique. Denise.

Gerardo Llaneza , September 04, 2006; 09:27 P.M.

Me gusta. Es un portfolio para ver con calma. Un saludo.

Giuseppe Miriello , September 06, 2006; 06:09 P.M.

exercise: pick 3 images to define a photographer's style

I appreciated your work greatly. I like the - not only - geometrical approach to architecture and the way you are able to mix it with human figures, there are architectural shots from you that are really precious and i could not include into my picks. I also like very much your way to street photography. I expecially learn from you the ability to wait into a good location until the proper action happens... otherwise i would remain with a perfectly composed void shot.

Oh, what a lovely portfolio, full of life, action, drama, color, and texture. Looking at your pictures, one can almost hear the sounds, the train coming, the grass falling, the children playing, the wind rustling in the trees. A total joy to visit is your portfolio, and you can be sure I will repeat that journey. Good luck. Emmanuel.

You make wonderful use of light, which is something very important to me. Something which I have been trying to do is light reflecting off tram tracks, but I only have one (not many hills in Toronto). A very enjoyable and interesting portfolio.

Beginner's Luck

Hi Alexandre,

Thank you for you words...Don't expect to much from me.. The picture should tell a story without any comments from the author. The one who looks at it can understand the story or not, can see different aspects from the story...The photo has its own life and its independent from the author... All the best! Ruxa

P.S. don't forgett about my 5% :))))

I just discovered again a beautifull portfolio, full of strong and captivating images. They show somebody with a great photographic eye. My preferences go to your different street captures: strong, expressive and telling a story
