Congrats

High quality work! You make an excellent b&w job. Your portrait gallery is excellent, your other pictures focus on everyday's life in America, very simple, authentic. It gives a realistic flavor of the country with a slight tone of nostalgy. I love the way you depict rural places. Keep up the good work! Regards, Axel G.

Hi Sam, Had a good look into your portfolio. You are getting a real style, of course I'd already seen more than half of them, and the other half is just as good......You ever lived in central Indiana? In your picture you look familiar....Be talking to you soon.....Jim

Jan Symank , January 29, 2006; 06:37 P.M.

Very good classical american impressions. I ve never been in this area, but the old times have left a lot of relicts. You developed an own style by capturing this ! Regards and thanks for your friendly comments Jan

Your work is incredible. This is an excellent portfolio of a true artist. I do not know which I like better, your portraits or your small town streetscapes. I sure wish that I had your talent and eye for the usually overlooked jewels around us. You have just become one of my "must check frequently" artists on Photo.net

Randall Ellis , February 01, 2006; 10:11 A.M.

I really like the theme you have going with the old buildings. There are a lot of really nice images here of some places with lots of character. Please keep posting and thanks for sharing what you have here now.

Sam, I enjoyed to have an intensive look at your artful work. Your photograhs give an impressive insight of the surroundings you are living in. All done with an artful aspect and sympathic touch. This sympathy too I feel when looking at the photograph in your biography. My best wishes accompany you. Helmut

Alex A , April 07, 2006; 12:35 P.M.

Hi Sam thank you again for your comments, they are certainly too much for me. I think you are a special person, I read this in what you write (your biography) and in your portfolio, of course: it is moving and you are a great teller of simple stories. I don't know if I will remain for long here. I am in a little trouble. It is time to really improve my photography, and I am not sure that photo.net is the right place for this. But, anymore, I will return certainly for you. Alex.

Hi Sam. Thank You for realy helpful comments. Your black and white photos are realy great. Like tonality. Beautiful places, and very interesting expresion of life and people in Your place.

Cheers, Marko

Jack McRitchie , April 26, 2006; 08:10 P.M.

In my mind, an excellent portfolio, quite in keeping with the "mission statement" on your biography. You share your surroundings with us without editorial comment and I for one respect your honesty. I try to do more or less the same thing where I live (Osaka, Japan), which may seem exotic to some but which is, after all, just my neighborhood as East Teas is yours. Good work. Regards, Jack

J-F Vergel , May 02, 2006; 08:19 A.M.

I really like these little town shots. This could have been a WPA project. It also reminds me of "The Last Picture Show". Really nicely done.

Jim Adams , May 23, 2006; 01:24 A.M.

Sam...

You have assembled quite a collection here. Your images are diverse and full of a sense of life, sense of place, and sense of time. I have been watching your work (though not always commenting), and am truly impressed with your sense of composition and your ability to pick out just the right shot. My compliments to you, and I hope you never stop shooting.

Galo Verduga , May 24, 2006; 03:32 A.M.

Sam, I accidentaly ran into your portfolio through another photographers site. Your photo's were not the first thing I saw but it was your biography. I like it very much. I like what you have to say about photo critiqueing. I share your point of thoughts plus it made me laugh out loud. A good laugh is worth a thousand words like your portfolio. Your B&W's bring a perspective to the imagination that is fresh and keeps my imagination going. It keeps me asking myself who are these people and what do they do in these little towns in the middle of America. I have always been a seeker of imagination. It allows my mind to expand and your photo's do that for me. Thank you for your portfolio and thoughts.

Kent B , June 24, 2006; 09:34 P.M.

Sam I like your thoughtful bio. You can put me down for mission accomplished on documenting the mundane and doing it in such a real and emotive documentary style. It's beautiful captured. I think you may be ready for a book or something huh? P.S. thanks for your kind remarks.

David Meyer , July 06, 2006; 11:19 P.M.

Sam

Came to your portfolio because I found a comment you made about a homeless (?) man in a photo by Doug Berryhill interesting, and I wanted to see what kind of photographer made the comments. I, too, like the old, abandoned, the mundane and the forgotten things of our culture. You have captured a great many, and done it well. Enjoyed the trip through your portfolio. Keep up the good work.

Charles Mifsud , July 28, 2006; 03:50 A.M.

Travel in B&W

Sam, thank you for your comment on my 'Fish Shop' photo. You commented: "I think we spend half our life waiting on something". Indeed! You definately have an amazing "I've been there and waited a little" travel portfolio.Great job. I think we share the same fondness for B&W. Thanks for viewing my portfolio.

Linda McLellan , August 02, 2006; 01:40 P.M.

kindred spirit!

Sam, i am a transplanted yankee (damn yankee to some) living in South Louisiana. i can totally relate to your work. your world looks a lot like mine. like you, since i don't live anywhere exotic, my goal is to find the interesting in my own back yard. the more i look, the more i see, and the more interesting it all gets! you also seem to have this love for the everyday people and places. i sense an honest compassion in your work that is really wonderful.

Vlad Marinescu , August 02, 2006; 06:23 P.M.

Hello

The fact that I liked most while looking at your portfolio was that it really made me feel the atmosfere of the places where you've taken the pictures . I feel like a tourist in the hidden country side of the USA with a very good guide. Even the studio photos have the yankee feel to them. Great work, keep it coming!

Nancy P(Toronto) , August 13, 2006; 08:20 A.M.

Hi Sam

You have managed to accomplish a very impressive collection of photos. Congratulations. I have looked at them all and feel an understanding for your "neck of the woods."

I want to thank you sincerely for the comment you left on my photo "I Don't Know His Name" It was not posted to get high ratings as I figured it would not achieve them. It was posted because I had to share the experience.

Like the man in my photo, I am finding most photographers to have a very giving personality. I see this in you as well. For your own sanity, keep up the great work and continue to share. Warm Regards, Nancy

Hello Sam, first i would like to thank you for the kind words on my portfolio.excuse me if my english is not so correct but i'm french . Second thing when i see your pictures especially in black and white it make me thinking about the novels of the writer Ray Carver. there is inside an athmosphere full of "non dit" in french, like in the texts of Carver. for the people shots i would like also to tell you something... when i started to take people shots i was far of them and always unsatisfied of the results till i keep only a 35 mm lens and nothing else . I was obliged to go very closed of people to take the pictures and both we were amazing by the event. after that i was more satisfied of this kind ok shots. Thank you for your good job and see you later on this site

Sam, I've made the connection now (with Janie's help!). This is wonderful being able to follow the two of you on your jaunts about Texas and Louisiana. You are an artist and its rubbing off on Janie. I love all of your work, what a splendid portrayal of Americana, from top to bottom (and the cameo appearances of Janie are priceless!). Please keep up the great work, and I'll be back plenty of times to visit. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving roadtrip! Best regards, Chris

It looks like one mast see all the pictures in order to really feel this special remote ( or is it remote) Texas atmosphere. The whole set of pictures really manage to pass on to the viewer a very distinct feeling. Your work is very good.

Daniel Mejias , January 15, 2007; 06:58 A.M.

Great portfolio, Sam. You've done an amazing job documenting your corner of America, and making the mundane fine art. Congrats.

Joseph Popper , August 06, 2007; 12:25 A.M.

Great Stuff

A wonderful portfolio. You're accomplishing what you set out to do in your region, and the results remind me of some of the great old FSA shots. Fine stuff here.

Elwood Orsippus , September 30, 2007; 07:13 P.M.

very cool

Hey Sam,

I really dig your photos. I tend to gravitate towards the same types of subjects, and if we lived in the same neck of the woods we probably would have run into each other by now. I particularly like your bridge, building, and car pics, and your focus on B&W. Keep it up - it's inspiring and important work.

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Ken
