Only 4 macros at this moment and 4 STUNNING ones!!! Thanks a lot for sharing this part of Nature with us! The catterpillar is... OUTSTANDING!

Birte Ragland , December 01, 2005; 10:26 P.M.

Sensational portfolio, a 7/7 for all of them, would like to see more.I am technically illiterate, so do you mind telling me if you used extension tubes for the mantis shots.I am working with the cannon D20 as well, but just not getting the results I want.

zulfiqar ali , December 02, 2005; 08:12 A.M.

These photos are unbelievably beautiful.

I'm not a photographer - only an admirer of work like this - but my wife is teaching herself to become one. I'm thinking about buying her a macro lens as a gift so she can try this. She has a Nikon D70 - can anyone recommend a great macro lens? (Sorry - I don't know anything about camera equipment).

CHECK OUT MY WEBSITE AT http://gabebeas.blogspot.com or type in Google search "Mostly macros" WITH the space. I take very similar pictures as you do. Admittedly here, not all of them as good as yours! I am 27 years old and I have been a full-time photographer for two years now but sales and jobs are hard to find out here where I live in this tiny town! So nearly all of it is just to learn. I am mentoring under my uncle who has been at photography for over 25 years. Honestly you should take a look at my website, over 500 pictures most of them insects and spiders. some other stuff as I am working on becoming a more and more professional photographer somewhere somehow. In TONS of competition. However I have gotten over 10,000 hits on my website in about a year! I build my own lenses, adapters, lighting systems--and just about everything I can't afford and I am proud to show how well it works. I got to say You have an incredible and inspiring website of what can be done with building your own digital-bug collection. Your pictures are lit perfectly. You are a true-photographer showing--large sized pictures and letting public access high-res pictures.

VERY AWESOME SHOTS. When you have time if you can, send me an e-mail through my website address or comment box--I am interested in what a photographer of your caliber would think of my work. You really have done some awesome stuff here and as a young and learning photographer I might be able to use a few tips and we may be able to swap info. You must have been doing this for a long time. Being somewhat knew to this I want to have as many mentors as I can, and learn as much as I can from people who I contact on line who shoot whatever I am interested in which usually gets back to the bugs! Gabe--PLEASE VISIT gabebeas.blogspot.com Mostly Macros.

I am breathless

and almost speechless. Your photographs are nothing short of, well, I don't think there is yet a word to describe how incredible they are. You have taken creepy crawly creatures and not only turned them into works of art, but given them personalities and life. I have saved your portfolio to my favorites, to help brighten a dreary day, and to spread the joy to everyone I can think of. I thank you for sharing your art with us.

Best macro I have ever seen! Awesome!

Gerard Owmby , September 20, 2007; 05:14 A.M.

Matthew Stuehler: I just bought the Tokina 100mm macro for my Nikon D40 (and soon my D300). It arrived today. It is highly rated in many reviews and it rivals the Nikon 100mm macro for half the price. I got mine for even less than half price used in "Excellent" condition from B&Hphotovideo.com. So far it's fantastic, but I just haven't figured out how to get the great depth of field that Igor Siwanowicz displays in his work. Even cheaper, you can use an extension tube for almost nothing or a reversal ring for almost nothing. You simply attach the ring to your camera, then reverse your lens and attach to the ring. You can also buy a ring to attach to the front of your lens, then reverse another lens onto that ring. I haven't tried these methods, but I hear they work well. The screw-on filter-type magnifiers are not considered adequate except maybe for the 2-lens Nikon filter-type magnifiers. Forget the 50mm macro lenses because they are good only for copying larger subjects, like documents, etc.

I was directed to Igors work by a friend as I paint wildlife and have painted quite a number of frogs and insects. Igor has kindly given permission for me to paint RED EYED, which is probably the single best photograph of a Red Eyed Tree Frog I've ever seen. I hope I do it justice and Igor will be credited as the photographer wherever it appears (on websites). The painting will be 50 x 70 cm.

There are many things that make my photography important to me, but one thing that always makes me the proudest is when someone tells me that my images have inspired them to shoot something in a different way, or something new altogether. Even better is when someone says my work has helped to pull them out of a creative funk and get their photographic juices flowing again.

I can say without a doubt that your work has done this for me.

Thanks Igor!

Permission to paint your work?

I am an entomologist that likes to paint insects (watercolor). I have painted some images that were kindly provided by Mark Plonsky (another great macro photographer). These can be seen at INSECTARTWORK.com. Iw ould also like permisiion to do a link to your wonderful site.

I would love to paint some of your images if you would allow it. I would of course give you some prints of my work as a gift. Your portfolio alone has inspired me to buy a new macro lens for my nikon and get busy...

I think your photographs are stunning, your focusing with such depth of field issues is incredible.

Dear Igor, I stumbled across your pictures when I was searching for a picture of acherontia atropos, I spent a lot of time going through the rest of your very impressive album.

Are any of your pictures available for sale? I would love to adorn the walls in my house with a few prints, i would be delighted if you were able to sign the prints as well.

I live in Manchester, UK, are you able to post to here? or do you have an online store?

My email address is docashim (@) yahoo.com

I look forward to hear from you,

Hi, I'm just beginning in photography and I'm particularly interested in macrophoto. I discovered your work not so long ago and it's the most estonnishing pictures I've seen until now. I wonder where and how you get these amazing insects and animals you use as models for your pictures ?... Are they stil alive when you shoot them (talking about instects)?... Are you working with some zoo to get these exotic bugs ?... Are you shooting outside or in studio ?...

Ok I stop asking questions but I'm so impressed by the perfection of the composition, the light and the sharpness of your pictures ... It would really be kind if you take a few minutes to tell us more about the way you work ... Is there a way to tchat with you on a forum or website ?

Possible cover options - catalog

Hi Igor: I'm a Picture Researcher for the marketing department at The Teaching Company in Chantilly, Virginia (USA). We're an electronic publishing company, working in the educational space. Our courses are typically produced on DVD or audio CD, and target life-long learners (mostly post-graduates.) I've found some images of yours that I'm potentially interested in for a catalog cover, and wanted to see if they might be available for licensing. The images can be found here:

Before presenting these images as options, we need to be sure that the photos are available for licensing for a catalog cover. Please get back to me as soon as you can, as our deadlines are very tight.

One of the most spectacular galleries as for the macro photography on this site. This is an awesome portfolio with a fantastic photographery which goes far ahead the usual photography style. Your opus is a pure art without any doubt and I am going to get back to your gallery every time when I want to enjoy the close-ups presented in original, creative and outstanding way. Hat off for your work and happy new year!

Igor -- This work is nothing short of astonishing. There are bug pics galore on PN, but these are truly amazing as are those that you digitally manipulated. Fascinating to see!

I am very impressed with your portfolio! This is absolutely stunning!

Although, I am not a photographer, but a filmmaker (director) - and so I do not feel I am fully qualified to give you my comment - yet, here it is: STUNNING!!!

Would you accept my complements? And - do you still continue taking pictures of your beautiful spider?

Full Resolution

Has anybody figured out how we can send money to Mr Siwanowicz in exchange for full resolution images to use on our computers? My kids (and I) love his photographs and I'd like to use them as desktops and screensavers.

Leslie Clement , September 02, 2011; 07:13 P.M.

Your complete portfolio is simply stunning, but I love your photo-manipulated images. They're wild! Thanks for sharing your work with us.
