Nature's Miracles
Mike,
I look at these marvellous photos with awe and wonder. I can imagine the immense sense of humility I will feel in the presence of these sights. You are indeed very fortunate to be able to see them in person - and thank you for sharing them with us. My one wish in my lifetime is to witness the aurora borealis, and I hope the wish will come true for me one day.
Best Wishes,

I did my geologic field work for my undergraduate degree around Tagish. I departed through Skagway and have wonderful memories of the Trail of '98 country. Though I have been back to Alaska over 60 times since, I have not revisited Skagway. Seeing your images has brought back great memories. Thanks.

Wow Mike, your work is overwhelming. Very, very nice pics. I am very jealous of your circumstances. It's a shame you don't have to worry about telephone wires or power lines :). Thanks for the kind comments on my pic. My daughter also appreciates your thoughts. She is really the master photographer in this family. Thanks Mike
I wanted to thank you for the kind words you wrote about my work. I really love it. My dad told me I had a spiritual gift of being able to take photos of people and capture the true spirit that dwells within them. If you notice there aren't any other types of photos in my portfolio except portraits. Someday if I ever leave Northern California and come to the great outdoors you could show me some pointers on taking REALLY beautiful photos. Thanks again. Thanks you again for commenting on my pics. I live in central northern california near the Sutter Buttes and almost all of my pics originate there. I'm shooting alot of my family now to work on my confidence after being away from shooting for so long. It really is encouraging to get feedback from the likes of yourself. You need to have a "New Shots" folder so I can zip right to your new stuff when I come looking. Again thanks.

All right...you're killing me!
Your recent moonlit landscape submission caught my eye because it has a similar subject matter to one of my recent submissions, but I have to admit...your background is of much greater scale! Nonetheless, it led me to your amazing portfolio that just reemphasized my burning desire to make a trip to Alaska this fall!
As a fairly new photographer, and a landscape buff, I put Alaska at the top of my list of places I want to visit. I am getting marrid in September and we are giving some thought to heading that way. My wife-to-be understands my love of photography...calls me Canon "my other girlfriend"!
You have captured the area beautifully...the northern lights shots are spectacular. I gotta find a way to get there...
Thanks for sharing your talent!

Hi Mike
First of all, I want to tell you I am honored that you would comment on one of my pics. Yours are so awesome! Your entire portfolio left me awestruck! I will be back. Again, thank you for taking the time to comment as I am sort of a newcomer to photography. The IR photos I posted are my first try, so your comments really encouraged me. Lynn

duhhh, type dammit!
i am numb. your work nearly shuts my body down, my eyes and my brain take up all of my processing power! The saddest thing is that there isnt a compliment that i can pay you that hasnt already been given! will you be my mentor?!?!?
no seriously, absolutly spellbinding imagery. If i could one day have a portfolio with a tenth of the punch that yours has i will be very proud, not only so that i could say that i have taken such images, but because of all of the moments and memories of standing out under the night sky, or amongst the most beautiful parts of this world we live in and capturing it for the benefit of those not lucky enough to have seen it with their own eyes, but lucky enough to see the results. I really love your adams style b&w landscapes too, living legend my friend.... my spine is still tingling

It would take me days to comment on each photo that I find extraordinary in your portfolio. Everything...I think my favorites are the nocturnes (I have yet to actually see the northern lights) and the infrared and the travels through the Olympics (though that is a highly biased view). I am so glad that you found me, so that I could find your photos. I too, believe that as stewards of this planet, we are doing a really bad job...your images are quite filling and inspiring!

Thank you, Mike, for your comment! I love your photographs very much, too! I put you on my favourite photographers list.
It seems you have a wonderful, fulfilling life there, in Alaska or travelling arround the world. I guess you have interesting stories to tell about your experience at the North. I'm watching sometimes documentaries on Discovery or National Geographic Channel about the wild life there and I'm fascinated. Good for you that you have chosen to live "Far From the Madding Crowd". ;-)

Hey Mike, glad to hear that you like my HIE on New Mexico. You have a great collection of images in your portfolio as well, and I'd like to ask about your infrared work. It doesn't have quite the same look to it as mine. Is your ir shot on Kodak HIE or some other ir film, or is it digital? Your images look smoother and less grainy. Of course, one of my problems is the cheap scanner I have, but the negs are pretty grainy even so.
Your aurora shots have me wondering if by any chance you're a stargazer. Last Sunday night (11/4/07) I had my first look at comet Holmes thru a 6" refractor. What a sight! I had no idea the thing was so big! (and seems to be getting bigger).

It has been a while since I stopped by. You have added some really impressive images. Of course your Nocturnes are simply stunning. Did I read somewhere that some of your images were used in an issue of Sky & Telescope? You have also added some impressive infrared and color works. The color image of the moon rising above the mountains shrouded in clouds is particularly impressive. Keep up the good work.

Mike, I'm a bit blown away by your work! It seems I went straight to the photo that was chosen for Photo of the Week...as my favorite. Apparently my eyes weren't fooling me...as I didn't notice until I was about to leave a comment. I's wonderful enough...but add he fact that you were able to include the Big Dipper in a perfect position...was icing to the cake!
