You are gifted with such a good eye Pnina. Looking at your portfolio... there are many fresh and beautiful images. I can't help feeling though that you have a "black and white eye" that you are forcing into colour sometimes. Anyways, I'm just quibbling and I am partial to black and white myself. I struggle with how to make my photography true art and your portfolio has inspired me. Thank you.

Photography, I think, is the capturing of an image, that has in some way, aroused feeling, emotion, or has meaning, with mechanical means. The mechanical means should be sufficient to control the photo, for depth of field, such as f2.8 or larger, shutter speed, and different perspectives, that is super wide lenses 18mm tele lenses etc. and their use be throughly learnt, for, without the proper use of these tools for pre shooting manipulation, it is IMPOSSIBLE to translate a feeling, or even an ordinary scene.. into an extra ordinary photo.

Let me start by saying what an impressive porfolio you have. This is wonderful work full of clarity and vision. Now for that idiot Thomas Turk, you have rightfully not answered him, but I will! He is typical of that breed of spiteful people who are frustrated by the lack of response by others to their genius. So they open a fictitious account under a name such as this and roam the net venting their frustrations. All the remarks he has made on PN site are of that nature. Don't take any notice. Life is full of failures like him. They end up getting bored eventually, even of themselves, and they wither away.

Somw photos in your album are very good. In some sense I agree with Thomas Turk. We can improve our photos with critique and different opininions. His views help me to improve my photos rather then tens of praises.

I like just about everything in your folder. Your use of color and texture is very good.

There are 3 that I hate though 'Trees Spirit, Wind, and Blowing Wind' Nope I hate em...I hate that I didn't take them.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful body of work. I grew up in a family that enjoyed classical arts although it was much later that my appreciation grew from mere visual or audible joys of the medium to interpreting the essence of the art. Your work here has me stretching again...you are enabling me to learn so, thank you teacher. Having said all that, I'd also like to say that this is such a pleasing place to simply be, to relax with and to imagine...the colours and concepts are fabulous, wonderful. Thanks.

I would like to comment as a whole on your Vermeer Homage work and say it is outstanding to say the least.The warmth of the light,the tonal structure and placement of shadows are all very 'Vermeeish'in the true sense.You have a good understanding of compositional values that mimic not only Vermeer but many of the old masters of that time period.I have always believed that by study of historical painters a firm foundation could be laid for our photography today...well done Pnina!

Hi Anders, thank you very much for your nice feedback, and liking the Japan folder, it was a very unique experience of "tasting" another culture, so different from mine, and I'm glad you think I have succeeded in depicting that experience.

About the rating, it was before the 7/7 new laws.... and the increas of 3/3's nearly to every upload...

Navigating through the seas of photo.net I came across many islands full of unique views, breathtaking landscapes and fascinating faces. These images are often beautiful, yet their creators rarely need any exchange of ideas and thoughts with the sailors who float close to their shores. They show off their devotion to photography but at the same time they fortify themselves - we do not know what message (if any) they have included in their alluring works.

But still there are some individuals who treat photography as a medium of communication and who really have something to say and are able to hear. Pnina, you are certainly one of them. I am so pleased that I met you here. I wish you the fair winds during your sail to follow the light.

Pnina, you have a beautiful array of work here. Your dance compositions reflect the touch of an artist's stroke, and it helps me better appreciate your remarks on my concert photo. I see, in your images, a passion for the human as an art form or as a complementary vehicle for other creative art. You also have a fine handle on wildlife: The birds ("Conversation" and "Don't You Dare" jump out) and the dog on ledge photo ("Upstairs Company") are smile-conjuring. Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. Thanks. I'm just wondering : are you a dancer or a choregrapher yourself ? because a long time ago, I had the opportunity to shot some dance performances, and my first thought was "Great that will be easy, with all the interesting poses and moves". But then I found out that this was one hell of a challenge. But on your photos, you always get the right moment, and I wonder if it takes more than just a basic understanding of dance and human body to be able to make such great photos. thanks laurent

I'm not a dancer or choreographer, but I learned ballet quite some years as a child, I love the arts, and I'm a graduate of art school. I work with great groups of dancers and choreographers,. It is always a chalenge, but I have found my ways, how to have the results and interpretation I want, as well as how to compose them, how to fight the strong stage lights etc.I takes time to find it and master it.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for you comment.Yes I try to make some experiments in thet direction:FOTO-PAINTING or so. I loaded several up. In that shot - made by film: the chain and the cup was added in front of aCD cover. I hear a lot of FZ music. I had the feeling the granates (music) are coming out of his brain filling a room (cup). Unfortunately I had no chnace to listen to him. Yor portfolio shows a wide spread experience and creativity in the world of Photo Making. Its difficult to select some favorites. This is an extraordinary portfolio. To capture the artistic spirit....heart, soul, and emotion is not easy, but you've done such a great job of this! Your shots 'speak' to the viewer, and isn't that what photography is all about? I really love your 'Follow the Light' series, and I'm envious that you are in a position to get so many artistic shots. I'm a violinist and often work with instrumentalists, dancers, singers, and theater artists. Our crazy union rules in this country prohibit me from taking photographs in a professional setting. Following a rather heated debate in one of the forums where I asked (or so I thought) a fairly straightforward question,I would just like to say thankyou for your contribution and advice. It was very refreshing to read your un-biased, very helpul comments! One or two individuals seemed to take the opportunity through an open forum in which the whole world was a witness, to attack me personally rather then answer the simple question I posted. That only led to annoy me more and the situation descended into something which took me by surprise.

As I say, I read your comments with great interest and take everything on board, hopefully moving on and perhaps away from the kind of people who it seems think very little but have a lot to say!

You have so many wonderful photographs that I wonder how I never came accross any of them in the critique queue. I tend only to comment on photographs I happen on because of the belief that there is far more talent I don't know about than talent I do. You have now gone from a talent I don't know about to one that I do. This makes me happy.

...your pictures of Japan have certainly caught the essence of Japan and its art and culture - for anyone who has spent time in Japan, these images are so familar, and yet it is culture that is difficult to get close to and understand. A wonderfully hospitable people and at the same time so different. I have visited Japan more than 10 times, always on business and rarely with a camera - I hope to return one day with the sole purpose of capturing images of Japan with my camera - especially Kyoto, which is an amazing old city that fortunately was not destroyed in WWII. Rick, my visit to Japan was not a regular tourist visit. I have local friends there and I was living for two weeks in a japanese house and invited to others as well. My friend Yasuko Shingai, prepared my visit so that I was exposed wonderfully to the japanese culture, customs, foods, gardens, landscapes and many local people and friends. My friend Hiroya H. ( PN member,not active now) helped as well to bring me closer to the culture and helped later on with explanations. It was a great experience of another culture due to the very unique hospitality my dear friends prepared for me..

I always find myself doing a double-take whenever I stumble across one of your images (no words, etc.). A lot of photographers take and contribute beautiful photos. You on the other hand present me with both a beautiful photo and a rich insight into vision and the photographer's eye. I find so many of your images breathtaking. Some of your subjects, especially dancers, are not areas that normally interest me, but I find your interest revealing and educating... some of your images are very moving to me. In addition to the depth and variety of your portfolio, I appreciated your sensitive treatment of the artisans and arts, especially dance and dancers. You were less successful, I thought, in capturing the musicians, but their art is not as inherently photogenic as the dancers'. Thanks, too, for showing us people from your travels and not merely or primarily unpeopled architecture or landscapes.

Thanks for your visit and nice evaluation of my body of work. Very much appreciated . I think that what creates a culture are the people and I like to photograph them while traveling.

My favorites are those that involve motion blur, in the dance folders. Were these taken hand-held, and the shutter speed adjusted to taste? (If this isn't too forward a question to ask.)

Thanks for your visit and comment, all my work with the dance are hand held, because of the fast movements. Mostly shutter priority, or slow one, depends on the scene, needs a lot of practice though ,even with my experience...;-))

you love art and you love people, this is my first reaction that comes to my mind after browsing through your portfolio, I think that even if the world is sometimes difficult to accept, your works are evidence that it is still a beautiful place to live. I find a lot of respect and empathy towards the people you photograph, your works are filled with belief that no matter how different our culture, religion and background is, we are still members of one human family experiencing the same feelings and emotions. I highly appreciate your engagement in promoting peace in the world and I think your portfolio is a very successful element of this campaign.
