Hi Czarny.I am very impressed with your images. You have developed a style that is both artistic and astute. Each is individual, but the portfolio also presents well as a body of work, and I find it truly inspirational. Thank you for sharing.

this is incredible, incredible work. you have certainly taken "it's all in the eyes" to a new level.

bravo

Michael Matsil , July 13, 2004; 03:13 P.M.

I join the rest of the gang here, with high praise for these portraits. I could start a healthy debate now by saying that these are good enough to win praise and be published in Communication Arts.....the "Illustration Annual" not the "Photography Annual." This is a fine example of how much more elastic photography has become in these digital days. It breathes new meaning into Stieglitz's epigram, "the equivalent of what I saw and felt." For a century the emphasis was primarily on "what I saw" now "what I felt" has its day. Finally!

Great work Andrzej.

Stef Karpa , July 13, 2004; 03:21 P.M.

HOLY SHIT!

What a portfolio, what a style... superb!!

Randal R. Ketchem , July 13, 2004; 03:48 P.M.

Beautiful Technique

You have a stunning portfolio here. Amazing work. Please put together a web page describing your methods, even if you do so for just one image. Walk us through your process.

Wes Bennett , July 13, 2004; 05:22 P.M.

It is hard to say something origional with so much praise. Rarely does a portfolio cause me to stare with mouth agape causing work to come to a stop and my partner to join me at my comuter to ooooh and ahhhh. Your work is truly inspiring.

J Crowder , July 13, 2004; 06:25 P.M.

Cool!!

Looks like those old hand-painted black and white pictures (something I've tried and failed at). Really cool looking! I wanna try this!!

Wee-Ming Boon , July 13, 2004; 07:16 P.M.

Stunning !

Stunning, absolutely stunning ! The expressions on the faces of your pictures are absolutely interesting. It makes me wonder what these people are thinking in their heads.....

Like Wes said, I also sat in front of my computer and went "Ooooooohhhhh...ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.........."

SUPERB

You are clearly one of the very best portraiture photographers - ever!!! Regards Paul.

Lars Raun , July 15, 2004; 10:32 A.M.

Truly original portfolio. Considering how hard it must be to come up with new expressions in portraitry, its impressive that you manage to do it everysingle time. Keep it up please ;-)

Shamir Patel , July 15, 2004; 08:14 P.M.

Beautiful and very creative portfolio, stunning portraits.

Kim Slonaker , July 15, 2004; 09:23 P.M.

I love your candid, interesting portraits. Always unusual and appealing!

Ron Chappel , July 17, 2004; 07:55 A.M.

I must be honest and say i i'm in two minds about andrzej's work.
The style and poses are some of the best i've seen
...but the colouring is utterly dreadfull.

Vicki Passmore , July 17, 2004; 02:00 P.M.

Awesome Talent

I really like your portfolio. I love capturing people and emotions and you have done this so well. Do you ever have problems with people not wanting you to photograph them? I love capturing the moment or a feeling that a posed shot would not be able to. Again great subjects and great job capturing emotions.

dexter legaspi , July 17, 2004; 02:07 P.M.

!

Amazing stuff.

Ian Lancashire , July 17, 2004; 08:22 P.M.

Talent

You truly deserve every accolade on this page. It must have been extremely hard work in addition to your stunning talent to acheive this look you have nailed down here. Well done Andrzej.

Igor Laptev , July 18, 2004; 11:17 P.M.

Beautiful portfolio - excellent work.

Tom Piotrowski , July 19, 2004; 06:13 A.M.

Surreal!!!

Hello Andrzej This is very surreal portfolio of portraits. On the one hand one can think there is nothing special about the poses of your characters, but the minute post-processing of images is applied each picture gains the story to go with. Excellent piece of photographer's workmanship. I would not mind to learn about the technique adopted. Best regards Tom(ek) Piotrowski Sydney, Australia

Paul C. Anderson , July 19, 2004; 03:42 P.M.

!!

Simply Stunning!!

Jean-Philippe Allard , July 21, 2004; 11:26 P.M.

Just to say this is a wonderful portfolio with a really unique technique to get a person's mood. I'm just a bit disapointed to find that a "reasonable fee" for your technique is 200 euros! WOuldn't it be possible to use smaller resolution files that you can't print but that explain the process for something much more reasonnable? As I'm really interested in it, but I'm really far from paying a whopping 350$CAN for it (heck, I could buy tons of film or even a good prime with that)

mario feichtinger , July 22, 2004; 08:45 A.M.

not bad, not bad!

some look like more paintings than photos. great!

John Maitland Graves, Pest & Gadfly , July 22, 2004; 01:27 P.M.

All

It is obvious that Mr. Dragan is a hard worker, knows the "rules" of composition, studied the masters, and from his work, it would seem to me, a caring, warm individual. It is obvious he is a master of photographic manipulation, however, I find his images "overproduced" and excessively sentimental. In his effort to find the truth, he has produced something that is neither a painting nor a photograph and placed us in a plastic world of overly wrought character studies that are hidden by his consummate skill. This, I feel, detracts from the immediacy of the moment he is trying to capture. It is all too easy to be mislead by modern methods. Today we rely heavily on electronic image capture and processing systems. But to rely on them to replace our imagination can rob us of our immediate responses to the world and thoughts.

Too often, we all are dazzled by technique. Computers (mechanical devices) CANNOT think. They have no imagination. They cannot create. Many of us find it easy rely on these devices as substitutes for creativity, skills or lack of training. One of my teachers once told me to throw everything away but one eye. "Technique," he said, "is the soulless thief of art." More than one emphasized the good, old "KISS" principle (Keep It Simple Stoopid) and to use no more technique than necessary to communicate the reaction to the moment and crux of the matter. Really, not such an easy matter after all! Life is still messy!

Albertino Finnis , July 23, 2004; 01:04 A.M.

To Pest & Gadflea

What do you have to show? Hot air comes out both ends.

... but here's a KISS just for you, all the same. (Keep It Short Silly).

Jytzel Medina , July 23, 2004; 12:47 P.M.

Nice work but

I agree with John Maitland, I like most of the work but I think it?s a little overdone. I have no doubt that Andrzej is a good photographer nontheless.

David James , July 23, 2004; 11:27 P.M.

Your work is brilliant, not surreal. You keep the essence of light, texture and flesh and discard everything immaterial to the persona of the sitter in a grand flemish style. Your work extends beyond the visual, stimulating all the senses. It can be seen, felt and even smelled. Superbly done. Your work is unmistakable Dragan. Keep it up, encore, more. Bravo, Bravo!

Anders Dahl , July 25, 2004; 01:19 A.M.

Awesome

Outstanding work. The colors are great and the photos play with traditional painting effects. It nice to see, that the style of an image can be so different with mild changes.

walter ash , February 01, 2005; 06:33 P.M.

Nevermind the critics

Art critique is like.. well, there are a bunch of truisms that could apply here. Anyway, nevermind the critics. Art is a subjective experience, this much is self evident. Once you've reached the point where people are drivelling on and on and arguing about whether or not it's art, too cliche', too sentimental, too technically oriented, or whatever, you've achieved something most of us only would dream of - the ability to stir people up with your work. Stimulating endless rounds of meaningless philosophy of art disagreements is the highest flattery you can receive as an artist, I think :)

This stuff is absolutely beautiful and I always find myself referring to you when friends talk about their favorite portrait photographers, etc. The technical skill and artistic vision you have is very evident and whether or not people like your style, they probably can't accomplish near what you can in this arena. If you enjoy what you do, and it speaks volumes to at least some of us, that's what matters.

Three thumbs up!

These have been here a while. Never the less You are the man.... At least on this site! This is the power of photography at its most organic. It is a sensual experience to savoir.

Success?

Andrzej,

First, I have been an avid photo.net follower for years and this is the first time I have ever posted a message to a photographer.

I agree with most on this thread that the condition of the girl is disturbing. I do not, however, feel that she was exploited in this photograph and I feel that you has no poor intentions with this image. While I don't like what I see in this portrait, I feel it is the single most successful picture I've ever viewed. As photographers I feel it is our responsibility to elicit emotion or to tell a story for either ourselves or for society. I find myself looking at it over and over again and each time there is a flood of emotion. In that regard this picture is a stunning success.

In addition to the emotional impact of this photograph, it is also technically excellent! Great job! The only hope I have is that this image evokes a realization in this girl that she is in dire need of help. She is gorgeous and I hope your portrayal helps her realize that she has an inner beauty that will enable her to have a successful modeling career without the need to starve herself.

Again, Andrzej, my compliments...

Vicki Christy , October 24, 2006; 01:10 A.M.

The too thin young woman?

Your photography is exceptional and I feel the impact of your subjects spirit. But I have to ask, is the starvnig young women still alive? It is very upsetting to see her so thin? I hope she is ok now?
