More even lighting would improve this photo; the right side is a little too bright near the center of the spiral, and the left side is kind of dark. Interesting subject, though.

Nice use of repeating patterns

Brighten up the left side a bit and this will really jump off the page.

Fabian -- it looks great. You really played up the colors and texture. Everything is strong. I personally don't mind the darkness of the left side of the image, because it leads my eye through the entire pattern of the shell, but that's just me. The iridescence of the shell was majorly used to your advantage! Good use of a square crop, also.

Very nice...the only suggestion I can think of would be cleaning the shells beforehand to get rid of the sand? You could crop this one many different ways and still end up with something really nice.

Are those shells backlit?

no....they are not backlit. If they were backlit, there would be no contrast on the inside surface of the shell. The background is a very small (about 1cm)piece from the inside of the shell (cropped out of this image), coppied to a new layer and magnified to make a blending and fitting background.

Very nice image. Fabulous even. Love the hues of blue and sharp contrasting yellows. I personally like the sand... gives it a little texture. Lighting could probably be improved upon, but all in all... Well done!

Hi Fabian, this is the one I like ,nice composition, good colour.to me i would use the tripod andd cable release and shoot the whole shell with F 8 or 11 try it u will see the sharpness then u crop, don't crop too much u will loose sharpness. I shot my clay that way and i blow it up for 12x18 ,it's still in focus . thanks for giving me the name of " thirst " ; that name talk more than anything.

great example of kiss principle and its power

Simple and simply beautiful. Great work. I like the sand. It adds to the organic feel of the shell and reminds us of its natural origin and environment. I wouldn't change a thing.

The colours are what strike me most and the organic swirls. Composition wise, the front shell is most important, but at the moment it is horizontally equal to the shell behind. My inclination would be to move the front shell into the top right hand corner and have it take up most of the frame, and move the behind shell lower down into the left corner so that it is in a more subordinate position. The diagonal between t he centre of the shell would be a good compositional feature too IMO.
