David McIntyre , March 30, 2005; 12:54 P.M.

My first 7! I've been walking in the woods for a long time now, thinking "This would make a great shot, except for all that scraggly undergrowth," but here you've managed to make a great shot even with the scraggly undergrowth. I'm inspired to go out and keep trying.

Andrew Innes , March 30, 2005; 12:59 P.M.

This is a very fine image, extremely well composed with all the elements of a simple but compelling landscape photograph: excellent light, balanced colors and, it's worth repeating, nicely composed. Thanks for sharing.

Robert Greene , March 30, 2005; 10:27 P.M.

excellent

great tonality and limited colors make this a great photo.

Robert Goldstein , March 30, 2005; 10:30 P.M.

Stunning is the word that comes to mind to describe this photo. The backlighting is truly magical.

Evgeni Donev , March 30, 2005; 11:57 P.M.

Fantastic colours and light.7/7.

thomas breazeale , March 31, 2005; 12:47 A.M.

Superb exposure in a difficult lighting situation,no burned out highlites or blocked shadows even though darker areas might even make it more dramatic than already is.Did you use an ND grad here or just crop out the bright part of the sun?The bottleneck intrusion of brush and land really add to the composition along with the warm color tones. My only nitpik would be the tight crop of the reflection but maybe this had to be done due to distractive elements or position of photographer.Either way I really like this...

Walter Tatulinski , March 31, 2005; 12:47 A.M.

Beautiful!

Greg, this is truly beautiful! Well worth your discomfort in its creation. It almost looks like Fuji Provia, is that so? Regards.

Biliana Rakocevic , March 31, 2005; 03:27 A.M.

wow. so wonderful scenery and colors. charming forest! Biliana

John Mitchell , March 31, 2005; 03:44 A.M.

On rare occassions you'll see a painting that is so realistic that it looks like a photograph. This photograph looks like an outstanding painting, like maybe a Thomas Kinkaide. You could really fool people by having it printed on the textured paper that looks like canvas. Absolutely flawless!

Jean-Paul Nacivet , March 31, 2005; 04:43 A.M.

7/7 DAWN OF TIME

So pristine like. Thank you Greg, and sorry for your frozen fingers, you understand now why I spend most of my time in Bali.

Excellent tone and dramatic colour capture. One's eye and interest is drawn in towards the morning (?) sun with the potential of a beautiful new day. Good shot!

Greg Walker , March 31, 2005; 11:59 A.M.

Thanks all for the comments - much appreciated!

Thomas - no ND filter was used, I lowered the camera bit by bit until I had eliminated flare but still had a good touch of the sun-lit mist. Positioning was limited, too, as this was taken from a small bridge that spans the creek.

Walter - It's Sensia, which of course is the same thing as Provia, just the consumer version. I like the palette and it's cheaper than Provia and I have yet to have any quality issues that would make me feel the need to spend a bit more.

Adrianna Hoffman , March 31, 2005; 02:16 P.M.

Simply AMAZING !!!

Very good job. The only thing I would do different is I'd use a longer shutter speed to smooth out the water abit. Keep shootin'. -Micah6/6

Really pretty work. Reminds me of areas where I live. I just don't go out if it is that cold. This may change my mind.

Puck Faery , April 07, 2007; 04:29 P.M.

i am making a comment here although all that could be said about it has already been expressed. these is a magical and mystical quality about this picture that would make it worth blown up to poster size. it could also be mistaken for a painting. lovely to see films still used and with such fantastic effects. i admire how you have managed to avoid flare which are my principal difficulty shooting such scenes.

Walter Tatulinski , April 07, 2007; 05:39 P.M.

Greg...

I saw and commented on this great photograph of yours just about 2 years ago. Seeing it again, as presented on the front page of PhotoNet, was a real treat for me. Just a great job without any tricks! It's beauty is that much more apparent when seen against a backdrop of so many manipulations and "graphic" creations. Regards.
