nice idea to time this. jh

Usually these timed exposure shots are crafted in traditional B&W with medium or large format film. It is rare to see this type work in color. It is rarer still to see it done this well.

That was a hell of a stack of filters you used for this shot. And its a very nice one by the way.
Just out of curiousity what was the focal length? I would be willing to bet it was closer to 70 than it was to 24.

This is some serious eye-candy. I love how you have composed this and the pier generates wonderful movement through the frame. The blue early morning hues are fantastic and the long exposure gives this a surreal feel and really gives the pier a punch-through effect. I like how you have the horizon line just beyond the pier which IMO is much better than taking a lower perspective and having the pier cut the horizon line. Excellent detail on the pier and the highlights from the lamps are a nice effect. The long shadows from the pier add another element of interest. You obviously put some thought into this one and it shows. Thanks for sharing, cheers, Mauro.

Very nice that you got the warm effects of the lamps (because of your high perspective) instead of bright bulb glare. Very cool.

Mouro has made an analysis above on why this photo has such an impact. Many elements of the composition are very well chosen. However, when all the positive aspects of this marvelous photo have been underscored, I would however mention that in my opinion, I find that the shadow under the bridge might be a little too hard and that in general I feel that the colours tones are dangerously approaching the borderline to glamour. But all together a photo transmitting pleasure, beauty and calm. Very well done.

Love this image
glenn, I love this image. Simply outstanding. Would you be willing to share how the filters were configured? Did they all simply darken the top down? I'd love to hear more about how you made this photograph. Great work!

Glen, beautiful picture, strong composition with horizontal, vertical and angled lines. I have this question: did you get any noise on you Canon 5D having such a long exposure?
glenn traver , June 16, 2006; 05:11 P.M.
Thanks Abraham and Emil, no noise on this photo for this exposer ~GT
Donnie Chance , June 30, 2006; 08:21 P.M.
ISO 50?
I was very interested in the exposure settings for this shot. I'm attempting to learn how you and others create that molded water look ... very very nice. You mention the camera is a Canon 5D with an ISO of 50 but I can't get my 5D to set the ISO below 100. The specs from Canon also mention the minimum ISO is 100. How'd you get to 50 ... I'd love to go that slow. I remember the Kodak 25 film ... oh I cried the day they stopped making that film.
Again ... great shot and a great camera.
glenn traver , June 30, 2006; 09:31 P.M.
Thanks Donnie , you have to preset your camera to go to ISO 50 or ISO 3200 its denoted by and L, if all else fails read the instruction manual, take care and good luck ~ GT
