Beautifully exposed, wonderfully composed, and sharp as a tack. Beautiful Michael.

6/6 Nice capture and mix of colors, while maintaining detail in the water. I'd like to see the uncropped version!

Original

Gabriela... Thanks for your kind comments and rating!

Ernest... I appreciate you coming by!

Michael and Jim... I'll address this comment to you both since each of you commented on the composition. To be honest, I struggled a little and cropped this one in several formats before settling on this one. I had to resist the urge to include too much since I really liked the whole scene. Anyway, I've attached a resized version of the original for you Jim, as requested. Note that no levels adjustments or dodging has been done on this one, but the darks still retain some detail when adjusted. I usually compose tighter in camera, but didn't seriously compose this one until cropping. Thanks to you both for your comments.... Mike

Wow Mike, a wonderful teaser for upcoming fall. I like the cropped, but also think the other works well, just crop down the top the way you have in the posted version, but leave the bottom uncropped with the whole rhododendron showing. The exposure of the water is so sweet, no blown highlights. The length of exposure is also perfect, just enough blur to make it silky, yet frozen enough to identify the details. Excellent results, gorgeuos work! I will be looking for more from you this fall.

What a great shot! Congratulations!

Jim Tipton , October 04, 2008; 05:03 P.M.

Simply s beautiful shot Michael.I think you captured both elements perfectly, both the rushing water and the rocks with leaves. Compliments-Jim

Simon Butterworth , October 04, 2008; 06:54 P.M.

A cracking image, beautifully composed with just the right shutter speed. I prefer this crop but purely from the point of view of seeing all the detail larger. I think that with a big print the jury would be out.

Wow... I go away for the day and all of you come to visit! Thanks to you all for your comments, kind words and suggestions. I take all of these seriously and appreciate your time... Mike

I like the cropped version but both are very good.

Michael Mancil , October 06, 2008; 10:44 A.M.

Tony... Thanks for coming by! At first I preferred just a slight crop off the top of the original, but the more I worked with it, the more I felt my eyes wandering without a definite subject. The posted crop reduces the elements and for that reason alone, the crop continues to grow on me. Again, thanks... Mike

Mike-

I think that I, too, prefer the cropped version; although I wouldn't mind a bit more of the rhodie at the bottom to have been included. I think Simon has it right, with a big print, the jury'd be out. Nicely done, Amigo! Cheers! Chris

Michael Mancil , October 06, 2008; 08:24 P.M.

Hey Chris... Thanks, and I suspect you and Simon are correct. I'm not sure how large a print this would support, but I rarely enlarge so I'll just enjoy this one as is. As always, I appreciate you coming by... Mike

Mike

Gorgeous harbinger of fall! Ya know, I also thought it might be better with more of the rhodie in the FG, but when I played with it I couldn't convince myself of it. I won't insult you by attaching my poor attempt to improve this. I actually think you've got it right! Nicely done! Don't tell me you've been to the Smokies again!!! :)

Michael Mancil , October 06, 2008; 11:25 P.M.

Christal.... :-) All of these recent posts from our Canadian and Northern US members got me all fired up for Fall color; so I had to dig one out of the archives from last year. We will be going later this month; so we're just hoping for good color. Thanks... Mike

Tim Zeipekis , October 09, 2008; 05:22 P.M.

Great motion in the water with subtle touches of autumn color, nice job!
