Photographer Biography
Greetings and thanks for your interest in me and my images.. I hope you (have) enjoy(ed) looking.
I am, for lack of a better term, what I'll describe as a starving artist photographer. I shoot primarily to please myself and to create images that I'd like to look at - and indeed a number of my shots hang in my living room for me to enjoy. Combine this philosophy with the background that for the last few years I have been unable to pursue my photography as anything other than a pure hobby (visa issues - Australia is not my native country), and I have been able to spend a couple years and a lot of passion developing and exploring what I like in an image - though the explorations are far from complete I've developed a bit of a style that some people other than just myself seem to appreciate.
I believe in the end image more than quibbling over how one gets there - a process that always starts before the camera is even in one's hand and truly only ends with the display of a print. Everything in between is up to the evolution of the vision and there is no such thing as cheating if you really care about the end result. These days it is not uncommon for me to spend 2-3 hours per image editing, tweaking and lovingly caressing the pixels into their final form. By the same token of course I have never shied away from stupidly early mornings in order to be on location for the right light either.
Unlike many/most photographers on this site, I am not trying to keep my work here pruned down to a pure portfolio. Rather I am using my space here as something of a record - posting a couple images from each shoot as a visual journey. As such you can go back in my work a couple years and really begin to see the evolution that has come about from the growth of my knowledge as well as my introspection into what I like.
I definitely welcome hearing thoughts and criticism on my work and am usually happy to answer questions that anyone may have.
