Photographer Biography
I'm a Marine Biologist (BSc Honours) training to become an Ichthyologist (doing an MSc).
Having been dragged around the world as a kid by my dad's changing jobs, I've seen a lot of stuff... which I can't remember, but it has left me with a strong urge to travel and to record what I see, and a deep love for nature.
I have wanted a camera for over a decade, and only in January 2001 aquired one, having saved up for it .(System: EOS 50e, 28-80mm lens. Sigma 170-500mm lens. Sigma 105mm macro. Kenko 2x teleconverter, Manfrotto tripod (055NAT legs and 141RC NAT head). This year (2002) pending an interesting expedition (studying coelacanths) I was taking part in (and playing unofficial "photojournalist" on) suspecting low light problems, I got myself a canon f1.4 lens and a Speedlite 550EX. Waiting to see the results...
Living in South Africa at the moment allows me to see some great stuff - I have travelled around the country quite a bit, and seen some amazing things - but not had a camera to record them (damn!).
I am most interested in Wildlife (particularly macro) and landscape/travel photography; not having a car makes getting around difficult, which is annoying but it does force you to really focus on the stuff around you and think as you're walking along what might make a nice photo.
Photo uploads have reached a bit of a hiatus due to not having a slide scanner at the moment (the one at work broke and isn't being replaced) - if and when we get another one I'll be uploading photos again =)
