...... Marios Lefteriotis is a Construction Engineer, Photographer and FilmMaker. He started as an amateur movie maker in 1967 and in a few years his films were shown on TV and at many festivals, internationally. You can watch some of his best films at http://marios-videos.blogspot.com
During the Athens 2004 Olympic Games he has shot some 400 3D colour anaglyph photos of the games, the city, archaeological sites, happenings, new constructions of Athens etc. With this material he has put together a book under the title THE THIRD DIMENSION IN THE ATHENS 2004 OLYMPIC GAMES.A short preface of the book goes like this :
"The sense of depth in an image, the so called "Third Dimension" or 3D, has always appealed strongly to me. I felt that only the ability to estimate the distance between objects, using both eyes, as in reality, can give the satisfaction of a realistic experience.For this reason I have long since begun to experiment on 3D photography and eventually constructed a system of two connected cameras, functioning simultaneously and rendering the images as seen by our left and right eye respectively. The combination of the two photos taken by these cameras, gives a result similar to our brain's process.
So, when in the summer of 2004, I saw the transformation that took place all around me in Athens, for the reception of the Olympic Games, my spontaneous reaction was to depict everything in "relief" through 3-D technique . ."
