Photographer Biography
My name is Rene Asmussen, and I live in Denmark, Scandinavia, lands of the Vikings. I have been working with photography for 10 years now. I have worked with different kinds of photography, the old techniques like black and white darkroom, poraloid transfering and handcolouring. I have learned a lot working with these old techniques which I try to apply to my digital work today. I work a lot with toning, mastering the contrast and greyscale in the digital universe. My work is inspired by fellow photographers and painters like Rembrandt and Da vinci and also new painters like Odd Nerdrum and Giger. When I work with my photography I work with it like the painter with his canvas. I remove the things I do not want and add the things I love. I add the colours I need and find the dark clouds that creates the drama. People have always fascinated me. I love the different sides of a human being. I believe we all have a bright and a dark side. There is always a inner struggle of good and evil and I find both very useful for my work. We all need to have a way of expressing our emotions. I use my art to show my inner struggle. I use Photoshop to create the mood I want, using multiple colour blendings and desaturation to keep the colouring faded and dreamy. I have helped alot of bands with material to their cd..s. And I usally offer my work for free. Because I love seeing my work on print!
