Connecting a strobe to my NikonD-80

Lucia H , Sep 05, 2010; 11:24 p.m.

I have a pair of Genesis strobes from Calument, and was told that the sync cable would work with my D-80. However, there is no way to attach it. Do I need another adapter or another cable? Both the camera and the strobe require the male end, and the cable has a female as well as a male end.
Help! I have to shoot tomorrow.

thanks

Lucia

Or, if you're in a pinch, just set the D80's pop-up flash to manual and to a low power (say, 1/64th). Then use the optical slave features on the strobes so that they'll simply go off when they see the pop-up's flash. If you keep the pop-up at as low a power as possible while still triggering those much brighter monolights, the pop-up won't contribute anything of meaning to the exposure.

The effectiveness of this method depends a bit on light placement, use of light modifiers, etc. But it's a way to trigger without having specific cables.

I assume you've gotten past the weekend shoot by now. But for the future go to http://www.paramountcords.com/ They make every sync cord you can imagine, and anything they don't already make they will custom make for you.
