Hey Art, some really dynamic concert captures there and of "name" artists too! I saw your comment on selling your photos online - interestingly I asked a question recently in the forum about the legalities involved in doing so. Do you need any special permissions etc. to sell ... looks like you were an official photographer at those concerts.

You've got some really good pictures of some of the best rock artists of our age, Art. I am envious and I see I have a good way to go!

You Da Man!
Art,
You have some wonderful photos here. I like all your photos but as previously stated above you have made another music fan jealous. You have some fantastic shots of some of rock's biggest stars. Do you have color photos of those stars as well or just the B/W's? Great photos, keep em coming.

Nice portfolio you have, spend time looking who is who...so know now what goes on on musical front at the other side of the ocean! But, (of course it's another style and you can't compare..) think i prefer the Skull photo you put on today, those colorsand the composition........waaaaw, it's so strange, its like a good place to be, it invites the viewer to go down, love it! regards An(Belgium)

How Cool Is THAT?
Man, that was a huge amount of fun just going through your portfolio! As a big fan of Rock n' Roll I have to say that you photographed some of the most god-awful bands of all time. I say that with affection of course.. but Ratt, Tesla and Poison ALL ON ONE PAGE? Wow. But I have to say you have some great shots here. The super-buffed Springsteen08 is a trip. The Stevie Ray 08 is a beautiful photograph of one of the greats. Really nice. Great shots of Neil, BB, and Angus Young! The Wendy O is just scary. Cool stuff man! That had to be fun getting to shoot all those shows. Of course if it's "work" it might feel like work. Better than hauling rocks though.
Thanks for the trip down rock n' roll memory lane. Still I gotta say.. ya got some really AWFUL bands here! I love it!

I had to go back an look some more... great Michael Stipe shots as well. And you actually have a shot of Geddy Lee of Rush where he does not look like the wicked witch of the west. You should get a prize for that! I am imagining about four of the best black and whites all framed together in a row. Hmmm. The only band I never heard of is Briny.. whatever it was. All the rest I know. When did you take that Greg Allman shot? He looks a lot like Duane in that photo.
Arnab Banerjee , December 28, 2006; 11:24 A.M.
Gosh - all the who's who of rock music are here...but hats off to your photogrpahic skill, they are all so alive in those photos. I can almost hear the band and cries of the crowd. I need more time to fully digest all the memories that you have shared here - thanks. Also, thanks for your comment on my photo.

Great portfolio! I gotta tell you that it was a magical treat for me, as being that I am such a music fan, esecially of the 80's and it looks like most of these were taken during that era. I love the one of Michael Stipe as well as the whole Go Go's series!

Memory Lane
Thanks for allowing my wife to relive her teen years of going to every concert at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. Would love to see detailed info with dates and locations if possible, though I'm sure time consuming.
Also, great looking dog. Now I have to take more pics of my Aussie.
Happy New Year!

oh my !!
Art - thank you for sharing.. this is some of the best concert photography I have seen.. great access and you made the most of it.

todays equipment
I think I would choose todays equipment for 3 reasons: RAW, the ability to preview, and digital post processing. I bought a scanner as well, but it is so much more convenient to just connect the camera to the computer. Preview is much easier that holding up negatives and list to a viewer, one at a time. I think more shots would be keepers.

ones that got away
Sorry no Greatful Dead. Also others that I missed...Zeppelin (but did shoot Robert Plant) Stones, Who, Beatles (too late) Deep Purple and so many others. Also, can't locate negs on several including Motley Crue and Frank Zappa, the first concert I ever shot. What a great one to start with!

RUSH
Hey Art,
I was looking through your portfolio again, looking at your new submissions...I went back to look at what you have for a few of my favorite old bands and noticed you have 2 photos of Tommy Shaw listed in the Rush folder. Just a heads up. you have an awesome compilation of musicians. Wish I was in your shoes for many of your music photos........excellent work!

Wow, how amazing is it that my little bro is so talented. Other fans should know that his wonderful accomplishments came after being tortured through life by me and his older brother.
For what it's worth, cool as the rock pics are, my favorites are the girls in the window, the amazing orchids and the palo duro canyon. Rock on, Art. Robbie

I am a lucky guy!
Hey, Art ... these pictures brought back more memories for me than anyone (except you, of course). I believe I was the reporter/reviewer at about 80 percent of these shows, and thanks to your kind habit of bequeathing a matted 11-by-17-inch shot from every concert we covered together, I have many of these in my collection. And every concert, of course, comes with a story or three. Remember the reason we didn't ride in the same car to review our first concert together? Kiss/Wendy O and the Plasmatics in Pine Bluff in 1983? The Go-Gos at Mud Island in Memphis. (You left out my favorite shot, by the way, the one of Jane Wiedlan scissor-kicking with her back to the camera. Ooh, the well place sweat stain! Glad to see the Wendy O shot made it, and the final one posted, of course -- Jon Bon Jovi at Farm Aid -- was the one you made into a postcard-size print and we sent to everyone who entered our contest to win the large print. A woman at a local ad agency who I work with regularly told me a while back that she was one of the 13-year-olds who received one of those shots, and she has it in a scrapbook. Made me feel old -- just like so many of these pix did! Those were the days, my friend!

Well, I came here after you had commented on my umbrella's. And this is a very particular surprise. Because this is a great portfolio, specially for the concert pictures you show. They are spectacular, astonishing, very well done. I went into the concerts myself viewing the photos, and could feel the glamour and the power of the music there. Thanks for a real good work.

I just spent more time living in the past!
I know my husband already made a comment (Andrew) but I just had to come back and say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for taking the time to put all these wonderful concert pictures up and upload them for us to look at. Being that I was in Austin form 80-85 and went to EVERY concert that you have almost taken a picture of and personally know Willy and lived near him it just brings JOY to me when I come and look at your profile! Makes me want to sing, dance and just go back to the 80's one more time!! Thanks for sharing! ~ micki

Wow, Art!
I can't believe how many great pictures you have got of artists that I like. Arlo, Bruce, Leon Russel, John Prine, Wynton M, Neil Young, James Taylor, Willie N, and especially Waylon (they are so good - real stage portraits). I envy you that you had the chance to shoot all these and also the bands I don't like, but whose pictures are equally great. Check out my site, www.artist-pictures.com.
I'll check back often so I don't miss anything!

Awesome!! I'm pretty certain I've seen at least one of those Michael Hutchinson shots before on TV or publication. Growing up in L.A. in the 80s very nice to see Black n Blue get some space. Your Brian Setzer shots I think are from his solo tour in the mid 80s and not with the Stray Cats, but who cares? :-) Fabulous stuff!!

Thanks for taking the time to comment on "Josie's Learning To Catch A Frisbee..." Yes she is a Corgi. She is 4 months old and the smartest dog I've ever owned. I was told the breed is smart, but she has far exceeded my expectations. She learns so quick it's almost unreal.
Your work is BEAUTIFUL! I'll come back and visit again very soon.

WOW !
Wow Art ! I'm truly inspired by your work. Your entire portfolio looks great. Your concert photos are outstanding. I see you did some work with Britny Fox. I shot those guys in Allentown on their '07 tour last year. Great band and real cool guys. You can see them on my web site at Http://www.RobValineimages.com or Http://www.MySpace.com/RobValine I've been shooting with Kodak Portra 400NC and I tried Ilford XP2 Super 400. I want to try pushing slide film and also Kodak Tri X 400 Black and White. Tri X is the king of latitude. So should help in difficult lighting situations. I have one question about bands, When you're shooting in difficult lighting and shooting with available light, Do you use a spot meter or just bracket like hell? Thanks for sharing your work with us.
