Lou Ann...
It has been a lot of fun so far following your work, Lou Ann. I find that your openmindedness, eagerness to learn and improve, and your patience are direct reflection of not only your teaching profession, but of a fine, adimarable individual. Keep up the work you're doing and always remember to have fun (which I think you already know how.) ^_^

Excellent Portfolio
Lou Ann- You'd probably make an excellent editorial (magazine) photographer because of the prolific nature of your work; lots of choices is an editor's dream! I suffer from the reverse fate; trying to achieve too much perfection in a single image. I know I'd benefit with a more happy medium? Just like finding a solution to a variable equation. You have many images that are outstanding from the start. I'd love to see you experiment more. So get crazy, feel free to try some different software enhancements. You don't have to post them if you don't like them. But I think it could be quite fun for you to push the boundaries a bit?
I respond very positively to many of your wildlife images and many of the Alaska pieces are superb too. You've got a great eye and an instinctive sense for image creation. I tend to think the more successful images are the ones that present simpler or fewer elements in the image (like the Bald Eagle or Emerald Bay image). The architectural images contain many very powerful visual patterns too and the ones that strike me the least are more of the post-card type shots. Here I don't think your obvious artistry is at the fore. Very solid portfolio overall.
P.S. I used to live in Lyons, New York (farm with rural delivery (RD) address) after finishing school at RIT. I also taught (elementary art 2-6) in the North Rose-Wolcott school district near Sodus Point. I am also a SUNY Oswego alumn! Good to have you here on the site. Please feel free to drop me a line if you like?

Lou Ann, I love the clarity and directness of your vision. But then you will suddenly come up with a shot like the bird's track across the snow covered boards (one of my favourites - of the shots I can see before the download stops!) where you leave us to guess the story. It is a pleasure to see the world through your camera lens. regards - Colin

I'm really impressed by your portfolio Lou Ann. You have so many great pictures that I really don't know where to begin. In particular your ice pictures of Alaska are fabulous but that also counts for your Nevada, Canada and Colorado folder. The diversity in your work strikes me. It shows that you are a person who have many interests and I like that.

Hi, again
Thank you for your comments. You are too kind. I see that your photos are not just made from the reflection of the light, they are also made from feelings... And that's what I like and I'm trying to do with my photos.
Regarding "The London Eye", i used a compact camera (Fuji S5500) so i did not had much choices... the lens is verry good though. I'm still in the learnig phase and that camera is just what I need (and afford) for the moment:-)

Thanks for taking the time to look at my pictures. I really like 'Color' in your favourites folder. The Southwest USA is a definitely worth the trip ( about 10000 miles round trip for me). I was in Bryce in mid august, and although busy, the crowds weren't that bad in the early hours. I only had 3 weeeks to visit california, arizona, nevada and utah, so I missed a lot. I hope to return, and would love to see it in winter.

Hello Friend!
Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.
I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.
Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Dear friend, last Saturday night, my wife and I, had a big incident with our car (?head-on collision?), and we are alive for miracle: anyway, these not good moments, become also?good moments!... indeed, in these occasions, we can understand that life is so? breakable, for not being happy every day to awaken, drink a coffee, to smile, to make love and other simple things, to meet people and, why not, to do photographs!
For doing these things we don?t need a lot of money and power:?we need only our life and the capacity for surprise of simple things.
I have had a big gift, for this Xmas and the New Year,?that is to say,?I?m alive!...and now, I know, I?ll love more life!
My dear friend! I wish to you the same thing, namely, the ability to transform the accidents of life in?happiness to live better and to give the proper value to your life and to that of other!
?Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!....Ciaomau!

You have a very nice portfolio...I really like your landscape images. I spent several years in Colorado a while back and really like your GoG pictures. Keep up the good work.

I started snooping in your portfolio because I read that you had been to Alaska. Well, it appears that you've been about everywhere else as well! What fun it has been to browse through your portfolio. I also love to travel, and I've been to many of the same places. It's been fun reminiscing through your photos. You have a great ability to capture the character of the places you visit. Bravo!

Hi Lou Ann. Thanks for visiting. I have been meaning to get over here and look around. I have seen your name so many times on P.N., yet for some reason have not been to your portfolio (at least I don't think I have, I would remember a collection this good). Your portfolio is so varied and so many fresh angles on your subjects. I am sure you know that it is a rather large collection and takes some time to digest so I will have to stop over now and then and check on whats new. All the best to you!!

Hello Lou Ann, you have a beautiful and diverse portfolio.
You have travelled around the world and brought back superb images.
Great work! I will be back to look at it more carefully.
Take care. Yannik.

thank you for the comment on my photo. I answered some of your questions under the photo.
you have a very nice portfolio. I really like your architecture photos, abstract and not. I need to take the time to really look through all of them (though you have so many) as there is a lot I can learn from you, especially in composition.

Your work is technically competent, quite prolific, and has drawn a lot of positive if not very specific comments. You seem to be a dilettante evolving in no particular direction, and it's not immediately apparent what, if anything, you are serious about.
Whatever your aims, I suggest you start a new folder including only the images you feel most strongly about, and that will be perhaps eight to ten of these. They will likely be your best work, but that is not a necessary criterion. The new folder should suggest a direction to follow, a theme to pursue, and you're welcome to take yourself seriously and make a plan to pursue it. In addition to considering what your photos are pictures of, there is also the matter of what they are pictures about, and of how they are pictures of you.
You posted a thread in the Casual Conversations forum about critiquing, and I thought I would come here and practice on you.

Thanks for the heads up
Hi Lou Ann- Thanks you so much for heads up on the sizing of my pictures. I am very new at this and would never have thought about it. Also appreciated your explaination on how and why you cropped the WWII Mermorial the way you did. Your portfolio is spendid. I enjoyed it all. I am such a sucker for a good B/W that I really enjoyed B/W Jefferson Memorial. Washington Monument at Dawn is stunning as is The Alaska Range 1. Also enjoyed the pictures of Emerald Bay at Tahoe as I was just there a couple of weeks ago. Unforfunately the smoke from the California fires took some of the fun out of it. Thanks again for your comments and advice. Look forward to seeing more of your work. Best Wishes-Jim Tipton

Thank you for the comments on my photos. I really like the colors you captured in the photos from France. Do you do a lot of post processing?

A quick note...
Charles - thank you for your comment! I am really trying to commit myself to leaving more quality comments on people's images, and appreciate your attempt in turn. Just FYI, I used to have a "best work" folder. But, as I have been using my photo.net portfolio to house my images for my online "business", I have gone to thematic/location folders with direct links. I found that my "best work" folder/images didn't get any more traffic set aside than the other images do. I'll probably rearrange again some day ... but for now, this works best for me.
Jim - the majority of my post processing is white balance, levels, color, contrast adjustments. I post process every photo (specifically for white balance if nothing else), typically tweaking the levels and colors to my liking. Does that answer your question?

Terrific travelogue -- and much more! Next time you're in western New York State, check out the Chautauqua Institution, preferably during the programmatic, most populated season, late June through late August. Unique shots abound, as I know from 20-plus years of "giving it a shot."

One shot among your latest images (atop this string) reminded me of a shot I got recently. Attached here.
Best wishes. I like your stuff.
