Not typical

Alexander, I am in awe of your portfolio. Not a single picture is unworthy to be in. Yo look with a different eye. There are many pictures on Nepalese people, but yours show us more about them. All your pictures compel us to ask about these cultures. I am glad you showed us.

peace

Fascinating portfolio

Hi Alex, it is fascinating to go through your portfolio. I remember to have seen many places and even people. And as my portfolio is growing, there may be some reminders for you also. By the way is it the snow leopard cub from the Khunjerab National Park? There is an article about it on Google top when you type "snow leopard Gilgit".

Alexander Mandl , December 09, 2005; 02:04 P.M.

Hello Karl, the snowleopard is from the ranger station at the Khunjerab. Leo was 2 Month old when we took the picture. cheers alex

Karl Schuler , December 09, 2005; 09:21 P.M.

It is touching to see how the snow leopard cub has grown and looks fit. I had it in my arms in July when it was much smaller and quite weak. I embosomed it and hope to be able to cradle it again and again. But not sure, as time passes... Karl

Alexander Mandl , December 10, 2005; 01:59 A.M.

Hello Karl, as the rangers told us, that they have a snow leopard I thought it is a dead one (this filled stuff from a museum) not a living young baby. I was totaly astonished and we played quite a while with Leo. By the way - how do you scan the XPan II photos which are 24x65? and how do you frame them for presentation. Are ther special frames available? I am quite interested in this format because it looks great and you can hardly compare it with a digital panoramic shot. With XPan you can shooot pictures from moveing objects to and get less distortion as with a stiching programm... for 24X35 I am no changing to digital imaging - still seeking for a beamer to make any good presentation - I hope it will take not the next 10 years to get one with a resolution of 3000x3000 pixel... but I think it will take longer :-(.

Regards and welcome in the club of the few people holding Leo

Karl Schuler , December 10, 2005; 04:21 A.M.

Hi agian, with the Hasselblad XPan I use normally Provia or Velvia slide films. Normally I use tripod to shoot the photos. I get the films developed in the lab and cut them in stripes with two to three frames. I scan them with the Epson Perfection 4870 Photo scanner. One by one, only the very best ones as it takes about almost 20 minutes for the best quality 2400 or 3200 dpi with dust reduction. Than I work on them in Photoshop until I have what I want. Often I post them on PhotoSig for comments. Most of the time I get some valuable feedback and adjust accordingly. I print them on my A3+ Canon printer in a format of 20.7 x 56 cm and at last I get them framed for the next exhibition. Since November 05 I have started to build my homepage in Photo.net. The number of visitors is much higher than in PhotoSig, but the comments in PhotoSig are often more useful.

Rob Annis , December 10, 2005; 11:59 A.M.

Incredible portfolio

These are some of the most emotionally stirring images I have seen in quite some time. You've done a remarkable job.

Alexander Mandl , December 10, 2005; 05:38 P.M.

Thank you Rob... I try to take pictures of a country how it is not how tourists should see it... Maybe I can change something with my images, if only the people watching them will be more selfconfident - and say - ah there are lots of other people having a much harder life then me - it is a success...

Watermark of Merni , December 12, 2005; 01:59 A.M.

Alexander,

I've enjoyed looking through your portfolio, such a great body of excellent, interesting images! Where can I obtain more information on the art of slide colorations?

Humanity through a lens

This is an outstanding exploration of peoples of this world. Every portrait shows personality and humanity of the subjects. This is so good, I'm speechless! Thank you!

ATANAS SARTMADJIEV , September 28, 2006; 07:47 A.M.

Hi Alex,

Your travel photography accounts are really very impressive. Your pictures make the world look smaller. I get a feeling that we people all are in a large boat that goes into more and more rough waters. What will be in the future for the next generations when this boat gets too small for all of us? Your photography makes me feel part of all those creatures that inhabit this sad world for a while, strive and dream, suffer and finally dye.

You have been very successful with your travels. I know how difficult it is to make pictures of strangers in an unknown and sometimes hostile world with different habits, rules and beliefs. Congratulations.

Giangiorgio Crisponi , September 28, 2006; 01:24 P.M.

bravo!!

Alexander congratulations for your stunning portfolio rich of very fine travel images , you have a good photographic eye, and you know how to choose a detail , continue to go around the world (I envy you)take many photos and thanks to sharing , ciao Giangiorgio

Vincent Teuliere , September 30, 2006; 09:36 A.M.

Amazing portfolio. Congrats.

David Bridge , October 01, 2006; 05:01 P.M.

Wow - dont change a thing

I am amazed that someone should comment on one of your photos to request that you delete it..

"plz delete this stuf

This is not impressive.PLZ PLZ PLZ show the beautifull world.dont show the painfull things plz delete this stuf from the net.I am not ratig this image"

You have put together an impressive collection of thoughts and feelings from around the world both sad and happy, bright and colourful and some dark and down right depressing. The world should know that these images are real and that this world you have seen through your lens is real. This IS the real world in a single photo collection.

If people think that the usual barrage of happy smiley people, picturesque landscapes and tits 'n' ass shots that scores so high on photo.net is the only imagery that should be here then thet is even more sad than even the saddest of your images. Had your collection all been depressing then that would be equally wrong as the world is not totally shit but I see beauty and hope in many of your images too and I applaud you for getting out there and photographing all aspects and bringing it to our attention.

Well done.

Thanks

Dave

Your collection of photos is overwhelming ! lots of excellent pics & good documentation. You are both "travelling photographer" and "photographing traveler" in one person. I guess you are Austrian ?. Servus !. Sehr gute Bilder von Land und Leuten !.

Hallo Alex !

Oesterreich is ein sehr schoenes Land. Ich reiste einige male nach Salzburg, einmal nach Innsbruck und Graz. Also bis bald.

Alexander Mandl , November 12, 2006; 06:58 A.M.

Hello Bneg. J

I have been quite often in Nepal from 1998 to 2004. Have been there during quite times and also seen some riots. But it has never been dangerous for me as a tourist. Indonesia is a great contry, but seems facing some problemes buy now. Regards

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting
