First u/w coral reef pics I have seen on PN, which is amazing reeally when you think of how many photographers there are on here. All the more welcome for the scarcity factor! Loved your Charlston pics also, - all are good in fact. Stay young Bernie, & keep posting :).

Well seen...
The years of flirtation are paying fine dividends in your good photographs. I have enjoyed the wanderlust they invoke and I am sure that I will enjoy another visit in time. ~Sky

You have a beautiful and varied portfolio! I particularly love the Charleston folder....reminds me of my home town, Savannah, GA. The Coral reef folder is wonderful. Thanks for your nice comment on my Green Man. You can certainly tell you taught English....you have a wonderful way with words!

Bernie, you've got a wonderful portfolio, I appreciate your command of color and composition. I stopped by to thank you for your words on my most recent post. I get very experimental, and sometimes it's difficult to try new things when viewers become unreceptive, so thanks for the encouragement, it means a lot.

Thanks for your comment. I do have the color version and will upload it soon. You have a nice portfolio. I used to live in Charleston so your photos bring back some memories. I live in the desert now, so I am jealous of even your minimal time doing underwater photography. Thanks again.

Thanks and more
Bernie, first thanks for your helpfull comment, I agree with you about the background and I think I'll try to do something about that. I'm sorry if I sounded disdainfull, it wasnt intentional. I just have a way of speaking that I suppose doesnt translate into type very well. I have the greatest respect for the technicalities that make up photography. Funny you mentioned the fishermans hands, a few others have told me that was their favorite.
Moving on, I enjoyed your portfolio, especially the Cypress tree swamp and park in winter. The blue of the water against the snow makes for a great contrast.
You've made Charleston look very inviting :)
Thanks again for your helpful comment and all the best

Hi Bernie
Many thanks for your kind and, may I say, sage comments. Through the link created on my picture, I arrived here and found your portfolio both interesting and varied. My particular favourites are 'Guardian' and 'Portal'. I hope that my English language skills have not let me down, knowing your past profession! Best wishes. Taha

Bernie, thank you for adding a comment to my picture of Niagara Falls. I do appreciate the feedback. It is always encouraging to hear from others whether they give a compliment or offer a criticism. I really enjoyed your portfolio. The pictures from Spring Lake remind me of places in the Adirondacks and you captured some nice scenes. Good luck.

Hello Bernie
I used an Ikelite housinf and one strobe. this was a Nikon SB800 in a Sealux housing. But last vacation it flooded, and i am getting next week a Nikon D200 with a Hugyfot housing, and i will use than 2 strobes on manual use.
Best regards Richard

Go raibh maith agat.
Dia dhuit Bernhardt, thank you so much for your much appreciated advice and encouragement...I really do struggle with this hobby, but your kind words are a great reward for my efforts. I have re-cropped my 'Daisy Chain' photo and re-posted it....did I do it as you suggested or otherwise? ...I would be very interested to have your opinion. The original was fairly heavily cropped and I was afraid the resolution would be adversely affected. I love opening the 'folio' of those few people who critique my humble(very) efforts, as it leads me down a direct link into somebody else's imagination and I am frequently 'gobsmacked'. I have enjoyed your photos...you are a talented, competent and imaginitive photographer! I'll be back from time to time.
SLAN....FRANK.

Greetings Bernhardt (Bernie?)
Thanks for your comments, I've enjoyed looking at your portfolio, a cheap way of travelling the world through the eyes of other photographers. As a mere youngster of 67 I too am enjoying picture taking ( although I can only manage a few basic moves in PS) and hope that I can provide enjoyment (and hopefully a smile) for fellow snappers, best wishes

As(in) Gaeilge (Irish)!
Dia dhuit Bernhard, it is really so good of you to take the time, yet again, to offer your most valuable advice. And, you are quite correct about the symmetry thing. It's something I have considered from time to time because I'm a very symmetrical kinda guy i.e., an old square! I always gravitate towards symmetry...I suppose it seems safer than the alternative. I will really have to lighten up and give some spontaneity a try. Thank you for your erudite advice. And now to save your sanity Bernhardt: DIA(God) DHUIT(be with you) ...this is the literal meaning, but it's just a salutation meaning 'hello' in the Irish or Gaelic language. The usual reply is DIA IS MHUIRE)(and Mary) DHUIT. GO RAIBH MAITH AGAT simply means THANK YOU.
I'm not exactly a Gaelic scholar so I won't even try to explain how to pronounce each word.....so that's your first lesson in Irish, Bernhardt. It's been so nice to make your acquaintence and recieve your very welcome (and much needed) critiques.
SLAN LEAT(goodbye) AGUS(and) GO RAIBH MAITH AGAT(see above) .....FRANK.

hi
hello. you made a critique in my portfolio. i didn't put the person there. i just saw it and i took the photo. i've been in Prague and i was impressed by the homeless who are sitting in this position whithout begging for help and money. they don't look at you because they feel shame for being like that.

Hello Bernie :)
I should have visited you earlier to thank you for commenting on one of my photos as well as for noticing that my main inspiration is every day life of people I meet along the way.
There is one more thing I would like to thank you for - sharing your underwater photos with us! I particularly enjoyed the Coral Reefs. I became a licensed diver several months ago and my fascination with the underwater world goes beyond reasonable boundaries. I am sure you can understand that :)
Best regards from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Aleksa

Bernhardt,
Thank you for the comment on my photo. As you may have thought harsh but I am very interested in feedback. I altered the photo a bit with Photoshop. As for the focal point I was driving my car at about 50MPH while taking the shot. I love your profile. What kind of camera are you using for your underwater shot. Be well?.Tom
Please take some time to look at some of my other shots.

Hi Bernie,
Thanks for you comment on one of my photos about camping & what Mr Hemingway may have thought.
Keep up the photos as they are more fun than ever in history! I have processed films too.
You also seem to be enjoying the diving! I guess you can retire from teaching, but you have chosen not to retire from life - wonderful.

Diego,I like the three levels and the symmetry. I'm guessing this is a

The museum was a Jail fifty year ago. And a scary one indeed!

Hi Bernie,
Thanks for your "first-of-it's-kind" comment on my instant coffee photo. Looked at from a biochemical point-of-view it certainly qualifies as disgusting. It is not often that a 'disgusting' label is welcomed, but this was definitely such a case.
Your portfolio radiates your zest for life and perspicacity. Keep looking around you for the images that incorporate a bit of 'you' into the photo. Thank you for sharing some of yourself, through your photography, with the rest of us. The work, and it's creator, are both interesting and worthy of an in-depth look.
