It's an honour to be the first to add a comment to your portfolio! It is very varied and shows your skills taking photos of many different subjects and themes. All show good composition and colour schemes. Hope to see new work soon!

Erika Meidl , December 09, 2005; 08:30 P.M.

There is such a sense of serene energy in Charles' work--leaving the viewer with an engaged anticipation and curiosity. His work is inviting and accessible, and yet he captures a calm, beckoning feeling of the mysterious and unseen--something about to happen, or that has just happened--and he invites us in even further to ponder that.

San Francisco picture

Hi Charles! Thank you for your comments on my "After The Storm" photograph. This picture was taken on my birthday last year (10-22). I took it on the left side of the bridge headed towards San Franscisco. There is a big parking lot right there before you head south (or are going north). Continue your good work!

Hey charles, I really enjoyed your portfolio, I love your "sunrise reflection" image. The way the water graduates to orange almost the same tone as the fallen tree is incredible. Thanks for being there to capture it! thanks also for your critique, best wishes from new zealand

Winter Rest

Chas,

Thank you for the comments on my photo "Winter Rest." I've spent some time going through your work recently and have a lot to learn! In the meantime, any other advice you can offer on the few other shots I've posted would be appreciated. Several are admittedly poor: my novice skills tied to a low end camera. I've recently begun using a better camera and will do my best to learn from your examples!

Warm regards,

JP

...from Maurizio and his...tin-soldiers!

Dear Charles, thanks for your comment, but I must explain that my photo is not only for the tin-soldiers, but also for the shop-window, with his reflex, is part of the image and I look for it. I know that this can also do not like to other artists. I have seen your portfolio and I make to you my compliments for all your job: very, very nice and rich! BRAVO!!! Ciao, Maurizio.

I think good urban photography is a difficult art to master and you do it very well (in addition to a lot of other things!). Thanks for the helpful comment on my palm leaf/jungle photo.

What wonderful lighting, composition, and details

Charles, thank you for your helpful comments. You photos display an outstanding eye for details that tell a great deal about the whole. I will come back and visit more often, because I have seen some shots from which I want to learn. Thanks again.

I like your cropping ;>}

Charles Webster , October 06, 2006; 10:07 P.M.

Cropping

Thanks Mick,

I appreciate your return visit and take your comment as a compliment ;-)

I've been working to crop more agressively and eliminate unnecessary elements in the frame.

Thanks for your critique

Charles, Thanks for your input of my shot in Boston. Interestingly the body of water is not a river but a huge reflecting pool. Composition is something that I'm struggling with to become more original and I thank you for your comment. I love your portfolio and I can see that you have the whole composition thing down very nicely. Your B&W's are great and your color shots are so rich. Great work. I'll be checking back frequently.

I appreciate your candid attitude and knowledgeable advice. Congratulations on a very interesting and appealing portfolio. You have an eye for serene compositions that showcase beauty in a very understated way. Thanks for sharing.

Chris Brown , March 08, 2007; 05:23 P.M.

Oh, yeah. Hmmmph.

I enjoyed this visit to your portfolio you've supplied this community. I looked through these and each picture offers the "Oh, yeah. Hmmmph." wow-thingy. You capture the eye of the beholder right away with the item of the picture. I can read it immediately and yet still say, oh, yeah, there's that aspect too.

Thank you.

Chris Brown

Hello Charles, Thankyou for your very constructive criticism of my picture http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5809168 .. It was very much appreciated and will hopefully help me when I see the next shot like that.. I wish that everyone would offer the same level of constructiveness but then perhaps that would be in the ideal world.. I like your work very much and aspire to get the same quality from my photographs at some stage. Please feel free to browse my portfolio and offer advice on any of the pictures in there if you have the time.. I tend to agree with you, I would rather have someone tell me why my picture is wrong and get no rating than get a worthless 3/3 with no comment. I am not in it to prove myself to be better than Joe Bloggs I am here to learn... Thankyou again for your time and comment.. I will learn from it .. ~Peter~

Thanks for stopping by my "Morning Shadows" photo... It's a pleasure to have one of us old school dudes stop in and enjoy my work. Great folio that keeps it simple and sweet. Nice work...Gonna mark you down as interesting to keep track...Take care..

Earl McLean , May 27, 2007; 05:48 A.M.

Sometimes the submitter might not like the comments. To those I say "Would you rather get a 3/3 rating with no comment?"

Very funny :)

Hamada Bourini , June 28, 2007; 12:56 P.M.

Hello... This is a great portfolio.... and YES CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is what makes us learn from our mistakes and then we become better photographers.... Again GREAT work.....

Charles

I just had to come by and visit the photographer who recently left such a cogent and educated critique on the Photo Critique Forum. For the record, your portfolio is truly exceptional. I wanted to be precise and mention one photo as being my favorite but could not decide between to many fine, fine examples. I wish you lived in my neighborhood so I could pick your brain on a weekly basis. Regards, Michael

Arica McNutt , July 13, 2007; 08:45 A.M.

Thank you for your critique. Your portfolio is amazing. Arica

Tina Joiner , July 14, 2007; 12:51 A.M.

Thank you

Thank you for your honest assessment of my shot of Dry Lagoon. I do agree that a little cropping helped quite a bit. Since I am just beginning this journey into the world of photography, it is always helpful to have people with a trained eye be there to lend a hand. I truly enjoyed your portfolio, especially the Painted Hills. Tina

Christine Andrews , July 17, 2007; 01:00 P.M.

Thank you for browsing my "Muskoka Chair" picture...there is a huge debate on who created this chair Adirondack (US) vs Muskoka (Canada); regardless they are the most comfortable chairs...once you sit in one, you never want to get up...I agree that the ferns in the photo do distract from the photo...as I do NOT have photoshop or any way to manipulate the photo, I guess I'll have to leave as it until I invest in a software program...thanks again and I love your otter pictures...I have seem them at my cottage and they are cute!

John O'Berry , July 19, 2007; 10:36 P.M.

Thank you Charles

Thanks for you comments on "Postcard from a Fiend". As a newbie the photo.net I was excited at the thought of having my photos Rated and Critique by wonderful photographers like yourself. I agree with your comment in your bio. I would rather have a constructive comment that was painfully truthful. But, that being said, it is sad to see a the rating tool missed used. My image was a tribute to all those who as frustrated as I am.

OK.... I vented enough. I really admire your portfolio. You have a wonderful eye!

Warm Regards,

John

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Ken

interesting

comments in your opening, I did not see any 3's (below average) in any of the most rated photos but did notice that some people did, either they are blind or I am, lately I have had a few brave ones post their names with the 3's, and I looked at their work and I knew why they give 3's, regards, Manuel

Water

Your portfolio is amazing. The thing I like most is the way you can shot at the water. "Sunrise Reflection" is the shoot I would be able to take one day. Thanks for sharing your art...it's inspirational.
