David

You have a really nice portfolio, with some well executed classic shots, and lots of creativity! I love your sense of simplicity! Nice work, keep it up!

Leo Rossi , March 17, 2004; 06:09 P.M.

Thank you

for your cool portfolio, so dynamic... and for your comments. They are always welcome!

Peter Meisterle , March 18, 2004; 01:17 P.M.

Hi David, in your biography you state "Generally all I am trying to do is to take ordinary everyday scenes and people and make them look that little bit more interesting". You have chosen the tough way - and you succeeded. The pictures are clear, simple, vivid and impressive, congratulations.

Mike Carruthers , March 30, 2004; 11:30 P.M.

Interesting

that's the one word I would use to describe your portfolio. And that's saying alot, since my wife says I have a short attention span (HA) I'll be back to check for new additions and thanks for the comments on my elk

lixin An , April 15, 2004; 10:53 P.M.

Even I could not remember your name, but I could not forget those pics.

When I followed your comments to your portfolio, even I could not remember your name, but I could remember your works, those pretty street girls on the other side the earth, and I even could remember those interesting titles! It is amazing that you caught the beautiful moment of life. If I can rate the whole portfolio, I will rate 7/7. Thanks for your comments!

Lorenzo Cuppini , May 20, 2004; 03:25 P.M.

GREAT

David, you're GREAT!!!

Fabian Graham , June 07, 2004; 12:52 P.M.

Excellent

Yep....you have an excellent collection here. I have never used a model as I like natural pictures, not posed for, but yours are well excecuted and tasteful........cool work!

Anthony S , June 08, 2004; 02:29 P.M.

What a wonderful and diverse portfolio. I really love your style and work. Keep up the nice work.

Jeff Oxford , July 14, 2004; 01:03 A.M.

Excellent portfolio! Great combinations of color and subject matter. Very unique.

Brant Avondet , July 14, 2004; 01:53 A.M.

David, I love your stuff. Thanks for the honest advice. I wish more people would give advice like you do. I truly find it helpful! I especially like your use of color and lighting. I've got a lot to learn, but looking at work like yours really helps! Thanks again for the comment.

Ted Carter , July 25, 2004; 04:09 P.M.

David,

I love your stuff! You manage to combine a very unique eye with a sense of whimsy. I'll keep checking back for more!

Patrick Shipstad , July 27, 2004; 12:38 P.M.

Also confused

David, thank you for your comment on my picture. It was entitled "confused". But I was a bit confused by your commentary. My intention was to create an interesting portrait, like one I saw in the magazine "In Style". Just something different. You went off on this "fear of water" back story and why I would even take that picture. Hey, if you sat for more than a few seconds looking at the picture rather than just moving on to something else, then I guess I accomplished my goal to make someone pause and imagine why he's in the water. It made you think. I don't care if the viewer comes to any conclusion. Let it be interpreted however you want. But then you went on to say I was so arrogant that I'd ask people to spend time critiquing my photos when I never critique theirs. WHAT!?! How do you know I never critique others work? My asking for comments comes from having lots of people give cryptic numbers that don't really tell you what they thought or give any advice on how to technically or creatively become a better photographer. I'm thanking peple for their time and and being gracious for their comments. How does any of that translate as arrogance? I'm sorry you came away with that. Nevertheless, you have some very nice photos in your gallery, keep up the good work and best of luck to you.

Mike Bowzeylo , August 04, 2004; 11:27 P.M.

Hi David

Thanks very much for the advice on the "Ant" photo. I agree the DOF is a little too shallow. I am awaiting a new piece of equipment that I hope will help me improve on DOF and on overall sharpness of my photos. I am having trouble here in Canada finding a macro coupler ring to attach my lense in the reverse position, so for now I am just carefully holding the reversed lens in place with my hand during shooting. As you can imagine this eats up some of my concentration and attention when taking photos. I recently ordered one from the USA and hoping it will arrive soon. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me along.

By the way, I like your "Hot Stuff" folder and I love your shot of the Petronas Towers.

Kind Regards

Mike Bowzeylo

Dave Nitsche , August 06, 2004; 03:30 P.M.

Creativity

Creativity is in your mind, if you cant see it, you cant picture it. You've a great portfolio, something many of us could be inspired. Thanks for rating and commenting on my work.

Paul Scott , August 18, 2004; 03:15 P.M.

Great sense of colour and composition in your portfolio, David. But which one is you in the self portrait? 8^)

ian weir , August 21, 2004; 11:47 A.M.

David, you have a very soild portfolio, but the scantily clad do help. Just joshing, very good stuff, keep up the great work.

Franklin Scoota , September 02, 2004; 01:42 A.M.

Respect!

I love damn near every last one of your photos. Great work!

Bilal Zaheer , September 06, 2004; 04:16 A.M.

love it all!

havent seen your portfolio in a while David. I like your style; natural, candid, unpretentious, thats something similar to how I go about it as well IMHO.
I also like the fact that for your figure/female shots, you choose subjects who really have such natural, true girl-next-door appeal to them, not just pretty babes, and that makes them far more interesting and sweet than any model/babe shots that we get to see so often. Just keep em coming sir!

Elad Gutman , October 16, 2004; 07:24 P.M.

Your portfolio is one of the reasons I love this site. It's a great study tool for someone like me just starting to learn about photography. Thanx for all the comments and honest ratings. Peace from Brooklyn, USA.

Jean Pierre Romeyer , October 29, 2004; 09:59 A.M.

Thanks David

thanks to share your creativity, your originality in this nice and solid portfolio

What I can feel behind your pictures and your comments, behind the time you spend on other photographers, this is above all your sensitive personality, your willing to share and bring positive contribution...I feel the feelings, David, a rare content that makes you different and greatly worth to be known, far beyond just pictures...

Excellent work.

Wonderful porfolio. Diverse images. You have an eye for photography and your selection of subjects is exquisite. Thanks for sharing..... Best regards.

Tom Appel , December 21, 2004; 04:06 P.M.

Many Nice Photos

David,

I find much of your porfolio compelling. Very nice stuff. I am somewhat alarmed by your habit of tracking down reviewers who rate your images poorly, however. I don't think it is appropriate to use another photographer's critique request as a forum for your disappointment over a rating. I agree that poor ratings (3/3 or less?) should be accompanied by useful criticism, but extending your need for satisfaction to another critique is unprofessional.

Sacha De Carlo , December 22, 2004; 01:09 A.M.

Nice portfolio. Your "ladies" photos made my day :) but I DO appreciate all your other photographs. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work! Cheers, Sacha :)

Eric Konieczny , December 31, 2004; 10:37 P.M.

Interesting portfolio. I love Hong Kong. You show a side of it I haven't seen yet. Nice.

Nicholas Price , February 17, 2005; 06:53 P.M.

I love your portfolio, it is very varied, very daring, but most of all very artistic. There is no "smut" here, there couldn't be, there is only form, style, compostition, beauty and often humour.

It will take me time to investigate it all, but I shall keep returning to see what you are up to.

You have my respect - Keep posting. Einstein was right!

Leo Rossi , October 25, 2005; 06:48 P.M.

I think the picture of the Hong Kong man with a naked torso is too risque. Nice mixed tea bag.

James Meyer , October 26, 2005; 03:19 A.M.

I'll say it again...

You have great talent, David. Bravo!

Jim Adams , October 26, 2005; 10:19 A.M.

Gasp!

What a collection! Lots of technical perfection, innovation, humour, and lots of great color work. Color me RGB Green with envy over some of the lovely people you have had the opportunities to photograph. I could learn a lot from you, David.

I feel as though I'm playing catch-up.

Francisco Díaz , October 31, 2005; 01:13 P.M.

Don't go without giving us your new forum

David, I love your photos. After reading that some of them have been removed for ridiculous reasons I fear that you leave PN and go to other forum without telling to us. I think many of us enjoy very much with you work. Don't forget! Regards

Maurizio Melozzi , October 31, 2005; 01:42 P.M.

Sharon Jobe , October 31, 2005; 02:48 P.M.

How do you....

David, You are an artist. Period. End of story. Do you have an idea in mind before you start shooting models, or once they arrive you start to formulate something. Your ability to capture such relaxed poses and expression is envied by all. I love your portfolio, have spent hours soaking it all in. Your newest fan. Sharon Jobe

Bruno Jesuíno , November 01, 2005; 08:43 A.M.

thanks for the inspiring comment. Great gallery you have here.. ;-)

George Pennington , November 01, 2005; 09:32 P.M.

Your work is the work of an artist. You have mastered your tools and added your inspiration and your twisted sense of humor to make some exemplary images here. Some are missing, but that's another post. Thank you for the lessons and please let us know if we might find your classes in any other venues.

Dexter Dee Dee , November 03, 2005; 06:13 A.M.

Marjan Krebelj , January 05, 2006; 03:38 A.M.

To be honest

I'll be completly honest with you: I deeply dislike your nude photos... i don't think they are aesthetic or art in any manner.

But on the other hand, i admire your architecture photos! I think your work should go in that direction!

Francisco Díaz , January 09, 2006; 12:55 P.M.

One more

Another one that desappears! At least I could enjoy it this morning!. Cheers, David

Spencer Jimmie Lee , January 19, 2006; 12:39 A.M.

Hi! David, I've joined PN more than a year. I used to visit here quite often. Not understanding why some shots had to be taken that way. But I do grow together with you. Thanks for your great portfolio. I begin to love your perspective. You are truely an artist. Best Regards.

I Williamson , January 27, 2006; 04:22 A.M.

A loss for words

Your page got my attention but I am at a loss as to what to say? I guess I like it but I am not sure what you are trying to show..... if anything. 5/7 I realise this is a fairly dumb responce from me.

Mihai Ragea , February 10, 2006; 10:06 A.M.

Superb work

lee tracy , March 19, 2006; 02:37 A.M.

Refreshing

I have been surprised by how many photographers are great technically, but lack any sort of artistic sense. There are many portfolios of one slim model after another posed in the same positions. Thank God we don't have that here. One of the most fun and interesting portfolios I've seen in a while. There are lots of wonderful ideas captured well. Inspiring.

Marco Maria D'Ottavi , May 05, 2006; 02:59 A.M.

Amazing

Your work is stunning, i love you, really. Thank for your photos.

Bodyline Photos , May 08, 2006; 10:25 P.M.

Your Portfolio

David, Thankyou for your comment left on my portfolio. It is just that your image of the two headed model did not do anything for me. Your portfolio however is just great, I love your innovative ideas. Appologies for any misunderstanding.

Raymond Ellstad , May 13, 2006; 07:57 P.M.

Simply Brilliant!

Claude R. - Luxembourg / EU , May 22, 2006; 12:28 P.M.

DAVID!!

Holy crap David,

It's been a couple of years since I first saw your portfolio, and I remember we talked about style and vision and stuff...

Well just look at your portfolio now! You've evolved from a guy looking for his style (and who was asking John Peri how to get girls to photograph nude, as you were to shy to ask them...) into one of the most creative, conceptual photographers on this site!

Brilliant David, just brilliant! My hat's off to you my friend!

Fran Garcia , June 07, 2006; 05:54 P.M.

Hi David

David I like you sense humor,of corse this isn?t the gim fashion, I only play with the concept, thank for you comment, you are always welcome

Hey David,

Nice work here! I really enjoyed your shots.

Justin

p.s. thanks for stopping by earlier!

Doug Oldham , September 12, 2006; 11:02 A.M.

I get bored (from a photographer's perspective) looking at most of the nudes people post because they're all about the same and take no creativity. Your work is a breath of fresh air because it's not only visually attractive and technically strong, but it's original, interesting, and often funny. I had a lot of fun looking through your portfolio. Thanks for giving us something different.

Cambon Jean Louis , September 13, 2006; 05:43 P.M.

Comment to Comment

I just made a rebuttal to your comment on my comment about this photo. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4895603 Looking at your portfolio afterwards, I see artistic means in your work. I'm sorry but I don't see it in the other you were commenting about. I think they could learn a thing or two from your perspective.

Thought Provoking...

David, Your comment on my critique request prompted me to examine your gallery. It, like your comment on my photo, is thought provoking. I appreciate you taking time to offer a comment on my lack of comments and I wanted to reciprocate by spending time looking at your work and offering a comment. So, having commented on your comment, I now offer this comment on your work: It is interesting and different but not in a bad way. I like much of it!

Cambon Jean Louis , October 25, 2006; 03:16 P.M.

bonjour !!

thanks for your comment !!

i like grain on photo, this is ma project !! but now wich me new digital camara, is not easy !!!

Alpo Syvänen , November 02, 2006; 02:26 A.M.

Thank you for sharing your art. Your works are obviously a lot more sophisticated than my humble snaps. I really like your "Little projects" and "The rest - mixed bag"- folders and also the street and everyday life-photos are great. As it comes to the nude shots, they are creative and in technical ways really good, even though I am not a great fan of those. You seem to have a way of dealing well with the people, I work with them and like to shoot more of the nature and animal subjects. Well, our opinions may differ and that is ok for me.

Happy shootings!

Alpo

Hey David ... an awesome gallery you got - thanks for stopping by my page, I'm looking at your portraits and definitely a lot of creativity and uniqueness happening there.

Teresa Au Yeung , December 07, 2006; 04:50 A.M.

Hi David

Thanks for stopping to look at the "On the Phone" picture. He was alone probably because it was raining that day ... I was taking the pic safely at the back where it was sheltered.

Agreed with your comment about HK. I saw your Hong Kong folder pictures, fascinating! Are you living in HK? Maybe we'll come across each other someday shooting at same spot :)

Uli Oertel , December 08, 2006; 08:16 P.M.

Hi David

Thanks for your comment. I just visited your portfolio...it's very impressive! I think I got some animation :-))

randy douglas , December 12, 2006; 09:17 P.M.

nice portfolio

I read your bio:

"Personally, I consider 'Focal Points' to be a mildly amusing photograph. I do not think it warranted the amount of ratings that it got. I was pleasantly surprised.

On the other hand, I consider, 'The Eye of the Beholder' to be one of my more interesting shots. The community here did not think so."

That's funny. One might conclude that the community is choosing boobs over eyes. (Or more specifically, an isolated boob over an islolated eye.)

Ted Gorczyca , December 28, 2006; 07:16 P.M.

David, what a nice portfolio. Thank you very much for the 4/3 on my poorly shot photo. It is nice to see some one that will rate a photo poorly and then give the reasons why they did. It was great criticism and much appreciated. Thank you!

Johanna Julia Vilja , January 09, 2007; 05:53 A.M.

Hi David, thank you for your honest comment on my Pitahaya-shot (as far as I know they call it dragon-fruit only in Thailand). However, I`d like to ask you something: what makes that shot boring in your opinion? You know, when giving negative comments it`s always polite to give also an explanation. Thanks:)

Maria Paula Langer , January 15, 2007; 08:19 P.M.

Great portfolio

I love when a talented photographer give me an advice. Tks for your words.

Domen Colja , January 21, 2007; 05:02 A.M.

After taking a look at follow-ups I had to see how your signature works elsewhere, ;), damn... I should've done that before commenting. But I'm glad it happened, your portfolio is amazing. Congratulations, David. Will be visiting you often.

Mike Skillsky , January 21, 2007; 11:48 P.M.

John Drescher , February 15, 2007; 11:22 A.M.

As an artist, a photographer, a commentator, a humorist you have done some very interesting and enthralling work.

Your imagery compels my mind to jump in every direction. Some are even emotionally charged.

However, this is art. I believe an Artist is successful when they can stir an emotion in the viewer or atleast cause the viewer to think, even lash out.

You sir, are an artist. From the fringes of society delivering work that causes us to think and react.

I reacted with a cheer, imagery that I have planned but never created.

Good work. Keep us questioning, without artists such as yourself society will certainly become stagnant.

Bryan Kannowski , February 19, 2007; 03:11 A.M.

Dave: Just wanted to say I'm a definite fan of your work. I love your out of the box thinking and creativity you bring to your work. Thanks for the comment on the Playboy picture. I liked my version a lot better as well ;)

David. Thanks for the comment on my picture of the girl in the road. Your time is appreciated. As for the Petronas Towers, I wasn't sure what I liked about it myself, that's why I didn't reply.

MJ Gerstein , October 26, 2007; 05:57 P.M.

Yours is one of the most creative portfolios I have seen on this site. Your work is inspiring. Thank you.

Kelvin Bernard , November 01, 2007; 06:18 A.M.

David...

As a child, my mother had alway told me to be wary of "yes" men i.e. friends who agreed with everything that I did, since they were not often good "voices of reason". David, I am truely grateful for you taking the time to critique my work. I can often "see" your point of view and it is often a good test for how my work may be perceived by those viewing it for the first time. As for your impeccable and varied portfolio, my friend, it supports my belief that you are one of the most creative and COURAGEOUS photographers that I know!!! Congrats, my friend. By the way, there is NO MORE ROOM at the bottom of my portfolio for comments, so don't even think about it (:-))!!!

Justin L. Smith , November 12, 2007; 04:10 P.M.

Well Mr McCracken...I have to say...I do think that you are one of the few people who truely have fun...behind the camera as well as in front of it...Your humor shows a positive side to a professional attitude...Your creativity inspires...your confidence with the technical...releases/unleashes your creative abilities...I remain in awe of your work...and will continue to visit your portfolio...Hope more continued creative success in the Newest Year...Juan

Hello,David

Thanks for your kindly critique and rating on my photo "I looed up, just an empty sky above.". I look through your bio and portfolio. I like many of your photos. They are very beautiful, interesting and creative. Best regards!

maria maria , January 04, 2008; 11:23 A.M.

Confusion........

Dear Mr McCracken,

Thank you for taking the time to look at my humble photo with the mobile phone and the orange. Now that I see your portfolio, I can notice you are an expert in the area and that's why I would have expected a professional comment from your part. I am a very beginner, and the reason why I post photos here is not because I know how to upload a photo on the Internet, but because I need feedback from the more experienced photographers. This is, in fact, the main purpose of P/N and I suppose you agree with it since you are a member of this community.

So will you please tell me what exactly you dislike in that photo? I don't mean everybody should adore my work, but I do need an advise for improving it. I cannot take your comment positively just because you had the generosity of sparing a few moments of your precious time with typing it. But I will surely take it positively if you explained me why that photo is bad or good. If you don't agree with the rating system of this site, try at least to avoid poor comments...

Thank you.

mohamad itani , January 17, 2008; 10:52 P.M.

WOW

I'm glad I followed your comment on one of my photos, your work is diverse and seriously well executed very inspiring collection, thank you for sharing your experience with us all the best

David,

I like this, you are very creative and able to express sensuality (I love your toaster) without any hint of debauchery. Alfredo

Apurva Madia , March 15, 2008; 06:48 A.M.

Great accomplishment. I liked your Little Projects folder best. Keep up the good work!

Apurva Madia , March 18, 2008; 12:51 P.M.

And yes, the pictures of pubic hair are very erotic and artistic.

Kurt Nielsen , March 31, 2008; 12:56 A.M.

David, guess what! Yours is the first portfolio that I have seen that made me think: HAPPINESS. You have an eclectic blend of subject, but most communicate "happiness" to me and make me smile. What kind of anomaly are you? :) I still want to know what other works parallel my "Moon Beach" but you give me something to think about. Cheers, David.

Bane Stankovic , April 10, 2008; 02:45 A.M.

Extra portfolio!

Shane Willis , April 20, 2008; 01:34 P.M.

David,

Thank you for your comment and rating on my photo, 'forbidden fruit'. Your images here are stunning and they interest me very much. Coming from Asia myself, your Hong Kong images are exquisite. Great compositions! Congratulations. - Lester

Catherine Van Kempen , June 06, 2008; 10:37 A.M.

Thank you for commenting on my image. It is titled "Have suitcase, will travel". I was learning to use a 4x5 camera at the time and as you can imagine focusing was a doozy! To make things worse I was way into self portraits at the time and I'm proud to say I have never had anyone else take my pictures, I'm a one woman show. I think I may continue this series with a 35 mm just to make life easier.

I really enjoyed your portfolio, I love your nudes, I see you like to play around too ... I also really like your street photography. It is so inspiring to look at other photographer's work, especially when they are of your caliber.

Thanks again, Catherine

Lawrence Paiken , June 12, 2008; 11:11 P.M.

Catherine Van Kempen , June 14, 2008; 08:32 P.M.

from a a very flattered fan

Hi David, You are making me blush but I can't say it doesnt feel great to get some wonderful compliments, especially from a photographer of your caliber. I have a few more of this series that I haven't scanned yet. Im having a hard time finding someone who can scan 4x5 negs for a price that won't make me have to sell my first born son. Hopefully I'll be able to post a few new ones soon. Thanks again for the lovely compliments, I'm going back to check out your folio in a bit more depth now. Keep it coming, Catherine

I'm realy sorry to come so late David. I'm new in this forum, and my english is bad. So how could i ad something that wasn't already said. But keep on amazing us with the photography like it should be taken, and the postprocessing that will make the images even more beautiful instead of ruining them in exageration in search of the extremes.

Shifting Gears

David: Have you shifted gears in your recent work? It looks very fresh (not that there was anything wrong with the old stuff). Always an interesting and inspirational experience to visit your postings. You do have a fine eye and a bit of an outside the box POV -- I do enjoy it.

Cheers,

Thanks for your comment. You have some great pictures in your portofolio :-)

Joanie Powell , April 16, 2009; 11:55 P.M.

Hello David , I will take your advice and appreciate it , but you don't have to be nasty about it . Or are you the person that just likes to stir the pot ? I think people are intimadated by you (I'm too old for that ) . You bully them into looking at your body of work (which is very good by the way ) . I see very few people have stood up to you though , those ones are probably more like you then you think . They march to a different beat as you do . Happy shooting . Joan

I Tried e-mail

I tried sending this to your e-mail link but it bounced...

-----e-mail message-----

Maybe it's sick minds think alike.

I find it interesting that we both wind up with similar comments on the same images. We have all been guilty of making the same old nude photographs, the ones that are nicely lit, mostly full length, etc. I find myself attracted to comment on those photographs that have something else. Sometimes it's a funny little twist, sometimes a unique pose or interesting lighting. I find that in my own work that some experimenting with unique subjects, unusual techniques or lighting make for photographs that I like better even if they aren't always well received here.

I hope to run into in the critique forum again soon.

NED MARTIN , November 05, 2009; 09:41 A.M.

Hi David, You seemed to throw everything but a photo of a toilet bowl into your gallery. You must eliminate most of them.Just reproducing images in front of you is not enough.Alot of the photos are real tacky (corny). You must concentrate on designing the whole page, stay away from donut photography. and ps...soft focus is not a no no if it achieves the desired outcome (I think your dating yourself).Look at some current gallery exhibitions. hope this helps....all the best ....Ned
