The Most Significant Comment Ever
Dennis, in passing through my portfolio, and viewing my photo of Man Walking Past Woolworth Building, San Francisco, you left me (a newbie--still not yet on Photo.net 3 months at this writing) a most significant comment for how to edit/manipulate my photos for best advantage on Photo.net. I have taken your advice to heart, and want you to know that of all the comments I have received in this forum to date that has been the single most valuable, and one which I will be heeding for the duration of my contributions (and soon to be, membership). I hope that you don't mistake my belatedness for lack of true gratitude. I have been through your portfolio many times, and can only hope to take photographs half as good as yours some day. With respect (and admiration) as well as thanks. John (Crosley)

Hi
Hi there, the kind of shots that you have in your National Park folder are the kinds of photos i hope to achieve when i get older, i absolutly love yours. If you could give me tips on certain things to do to get those kind of shots, that would be greatly appreciated, or if you know any spectacular locations to go to. i live in arizona, so i know there are plenty of areas to find, i just havent yet considering i'm only 15, heh, well, once again, i love those photos and all of yours. thanks.

1 1/2 hours later having viewed almost all the pictures and delighted at the images you have shared, I now have to resume work and try and concentrate on what i'm supposed to be doing.. when all i want to do now is go out and take more pictures.
Thank you for your Effort.

Hello Dennis. I just found you through the NO WORDS forum for your great shots of Summertime Thunderbumpers. Then I see they were shot in Oklahoma. I lived four years in Enid while assigned to Vance AFB. I saw and because of my job, reported lots of those same storms. Anyway I see you also have photographed a round barn. Where is that. nice work. But nice work on all of your presentations. I'll be checking back on your portfolio regularly. A guy could learn a lot from studying your work.

I am awe struck by some of your works here, they put me in mind of someone else's work that I admire, I wouldn't want to give you a big head and reveal his name, but I can give you a clue, his name starts with "Ansel Adams" one photo of yours in particular reminds me of his El Capitan!
Wishing the best for you and your wife!

AA was and is the end goal of my photography. His works were so damn perfect that if I get any comments that puts my works just cleaning the dog pens of Ansel's works, then I've accomplished my goal. Thanks Ken.

As far as "Home Sweet Home...", it was shot with a Quantaray 70-300 I was trying out to see if I liked that focal range. I found it to be the right focal range but not the lens I was use to using. I have since purchased a used Nikon 70-300G. I wish I could have purchased the VR, but as I have found out, all things that are good are worth waiting for. I'll get it someday. But for now, the G version will have to do. Maybe, it's a learning tool for me to try and get the best shot I can with what I've got. I've learned so much just in the last 6 months and seeing portfolios such as yours makes me strive to learn even more. Your work is amazing!

Dennis: You're an inspiration. Not just your fine work and good eye, but the fact that you get OUT there. The hardest part of this sort of work for most of us is just getting the camera and the photographer out where the world actually does things. No offense to 'street' photographers, but we should all wear out as many boot soles as Dennis, and get farther afield. Thanks, Dennis, for reminding me to shut off the computer.

Nice!
Dennis,
Thanks for your nice comments. I have been wandering through your portfolio this morning and, like everyone else, am highly impressed with your work. It's nice to see military training work out. Haha. I love the depth of your work, and the breadth of subjects. I appreciate your comments on my sunsets. I love the challenge of shooting the sun without filters and only the speed and aperature as my weapons. The colors are predominantly unmanipulated. I am passionate about chasing the sunset since I play golf often in the late afternoon and have been blessed with viewing the sunset on three continents. But I don't want to be a one-trick pony and try my hand at a bit of everything. I see that you have a bit of everything as well and you inspire me. I don't travel as much as you but I am working on that.
I love that your wife paints your work. Mine paints her photos with various digital tools, but she also has the eye for the shot and directs me quite often. She is the artist.
I am so glad you commented on my folio. I hope to have added a friend to my world. There are many more sunsets to shoot and I hope to share them with great people like you.
Vr,
Fergi

Dennis, thank you for stopping by my portfolio and for your comments on my digital darkroom skills and layering techniques. I work endlessly on these techniques and I feel it is paying off for me... regardless, I have the utmost respect for photographers such as yourself who choose to let the camera do most of the work... your portfolio is diverse and beautiful in it's classic depictions of the wonders of nature. I am honored that you have taken the time to view my work and also that you wrote positively - seems so many of the more 'traditional' photographers do not view those who paint and manipulate and layer textures endlessly very kindly... thank you for your open mind - Take care and all the best to you and your family - Glenn++++

Wow Dennis am I so impressed!
Andrew (March 8th) is my husband and I remember he told me and showed me your portfolio one night but since we are on different computers I did not have your link and I was not able to go to your site and did not have your name. I do remember your dogs when I saw your site but that was when I was a beginner back in January and did not rate or say much.
I just got through looking at your wifes drawings and I must say I was so impressed!
My favorite one was the Ocracoke Lighthouse and I will say she captured it with a great eye as you did with the picture.
What a wonderful portfolio you have. And I enjoyed looking at every picture. It is great to see a wife and husband work together as my husband and I do. ~ micki

Inspiring
Hi Dennis, thanks for your comment of my photo Nova Scotia Fish Stage. I was just there last week on a visit from the West Coast. My husband and I lived in that little village many years ago and it is so beautiful I could weep. If you ever visit N.S., the village is Prospect. It's about 30 miles from Halifax. You are such a talented and skilled photographer that you would do it's beauty great justice. Cheers.

I think sometimes you look through the viewfinder and you see a nice image, and then sometimes when all the elements come together at just the right moment you look through the viewfinder and see MAGIC!
You know what I'm talking about because some of your images have that MAGIC.

Hi Denis
Thanks for your comments on my Glacier pic.Sorry to be so long replying to your question whether I increased the sharpness, yes I did,but have been tied up in kitchen renovations. (Lucky me). Viewed one of your images where you used HPF & the results are beautiful. Unfortunaetly I only have Photoshop Elements 5 & this feature is not available. The sharpening tools I have are The Unsharp Mask & Adjusting Sharpnes, but thank you for your interest.I think my problems with sharness are occuring when I trip the shutter, but have made some changes which hopefully will improve my images.Glancing thru your portfolio I immediately recognized your Grand Canyon Of Yellowstone & am positive I took an pic at the same location in 1984 while travelling to visit our niece in Los Angeles. Finally, also admiring the water colours of Kat or is it Kats, especially Merced Morning, Muir Lake & Tuolumne River. This makes two very talented people in the same family.Regards-Ross

Dennis--I'm not sure how I missed your wonderful portfolio for so long but I'm glad I found it! Thanks for your comments on my lighthouse picture--you have some wonderful captures of these historic structures yourself! Your portfolio is absolutely amazing and I appreciate it even more than most people because it shows scenes of wildlife and rural living scenes that I grew so accustomed to while growing up in rural Virginia. Judging from your profile picture and photography subjects, you, like myself, really enjoy nature and being outside with wildlife. Do keep up the good work--I will be back to visit your portfolio often and sincerely hope that you'll do the same for me!

Hello Dennis
Have just gone through your portfolio and also read your bio. Some very interesting work here. I was born and raised in the States left in 1969 and have never been back. Your images of the national parks and also some of your wildlife photography remind me of the things I miss the most about the States . I think you would have a ball here in New Zealand. Keep up the good work. Shall mark you down as someone to follow.

Hello Friends!
Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night 11-7-07 and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.
I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.
Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting
Ken

First off, my sincere apologies for not thanking you sooner for your wonderful comments and rating on my Death Valley photos. It was very hectic for about 2 weeks after ChrisH, Leo Burkey and myself got back from Death Valley. Anyway thanks and really wanted to tell you how really great your shots of Yosemite, Mono and the Meadows are. Great Color, DOF just super and your subject matter off the beaten track. Can't wait for my first real trip this Spring to Yosemite. Hopefully 4 days worth. Again, my thanks and may 2008 bring you lots of great captures...RAY

Hey Dennis, So finally made it to Yosemite. Wow, what a photographer's paradise. Beautiful weather ( but no clouds darn it ) Took 100's of shot and managed to find a few to put on my PN site. Let me know what you think. Next trip is up to Tuolumne Meadows in July with the 3 Amigos, ChrisH(SoCalif), Leo Burkey and myself. Were planning on hitting Mono Lake also with stops along the Eastern Sierra Nevadas. Hoping to get some captures up there as good as yours are! We should have a couple of other PNers joining us during the expedition. I've been checking out your shots of the area and they have given me ideas and inspirations to what I will be looking for. Well, take care and keep on shootin...RAY
