Beautiful portfolio ! Amazing pictures; nice colors, lights and composition. I especially like the mood and ambiance you have created with the digital alterations. Is it PS ? How do you do it ? Thanx for the inspiration ! Congrats and keep up the very good work !

Glenn Norris , December 01, 2006; 02:38 P.M.

Thank you both - Milos, thanks for leaving such kind and thoughtful words for my first portfolio comment. Hell-N - thank you also and I am happy to talk about my techniques with anyone. I have left some details under some of my images (Boy 400 has a long explanation) but mostly it is just alot of tweaking and trail and error. take care both of you! Glenn

This is a detailed portfolio. congratulations.

Dennis Aubrey , December 11, 2006; 10:18 A.M.

Terrific HDR ...

... enjoy it very much. Like it mostly where you are free to paint with it (as opposed to the Grand Hotel scene). Thanks for posting such an interesting portfolio.

Glenn Norris , December 11, 2006; 11:56 A.M.

Dennis, I very much appreciate that you said this about being free to paint - I am happy that I have had a good response to the 'realistic' interiors but I have MUCH more fun doing my own thing! Take care!

Kurt Nielsen , December 11, 2006; 05:48 P.M.

Glenn, yes, your whole portfolio is really inspirational. Really nice work, man.

Paula Grenside , December 28, 2006; 01:12 P.M.

Glenn,

Thank you for leaving a comment on my portfolio so that I could reach yours and enjooy your creativity and interpretations of reality. The abstracts in the first flders are disquieting and thought provoking. I love when images make me think and yours do. Original, personal and intriguing.

My wishes for a wonderful and creative 2007.

Sky Blue , December 29, 2006; 09:20 P.M.

Striking images

Very eye-catching and interesting. Especially enjoyed the many details in your interior photos. Nice Work. ~Sky

Domen Colja , January 08, 2007; 04:03 P.M.

Glen

Thanks for stopping by;) It is true, even if sometimes takes place retroactively: I try to conceptualize most of my humble pictures. It is semiotics I search and strive to find. And by hoping to get better technically, I'll try not to "share tears" over the nonacceptance of the lack of "beauty".

p.s.: And btw: I positively remarked how great your HDRs were, but the portraits are just as amazing. Congratulations;)

Chris Heyward , January 10, 2007; 04:04 P.M.

What a great portfolio.love your hdr images.A true talent you have.regards Chris

Tye Carnelli , January 16, 2007; 02:05 A.M.

Darius Tulbure , January 27, 2007; 06:17 A.M.

I very much like your "Interior Abstract Landscapes" folder. Very original, and great use of HDR technique. I also find the agglomeration of objects something unique, a Glenn Norris brand!

John Warren , January 27, 2007; 07:39 A.M.

Portfolio & Ratings

Glen, And I thought I had lived an interesting and varied life, after your CV however, I realize it was just dull and boring. I am with you 100% on the rating system. As you say, somebody with two ordinary photographs on the site handing out 2's and 3' like confetti is just not on. Us old Pro's are immune but for the up-and-coming young photographers it can be devastating. I will now attempt to put the site managers under pressure to alter the ratings system and make 'the rater' responsible and public, so he/she can be challenged. I would like to use your input as a back-up if you don't mind. Your site by the way is of the highest calibre and I would like to see somebody handing out 3's on it and then justify it..........Keep working...........John

Janie Barber , January 27, 2007; 11:53 A.M.

Glenn,

First of all, I found you actually thru John Warren's portfolio and I just have to say I am so glad that I came to yours and see your work. You have such an awesome portfolio that exhibits such a creative eye and also one for color. Since I am very fond of decorating in my shop and the fact that I love clutter makes me really appreciate your interior shots and the abstract sections of your portfolio. In both of your comments you spoke of the lower ratings without any critiques and I absolutely agree with you. However, your statement where friends give 6/6 ratings in order not to hurt their feelings, I don't necessarily feel this is true. Both my boyfriend, Sam who is also on PN, and I give 6's and 7's: however, some of these are not our regular people we rate every day as we both feel that we don't comment nor rate unless we feel it is warranted. He and I actually love b/w and most of the time along the documentary line. He and I have talked and surmise that it is a lot better to pat someone on their back than a kick in the rear end. Those words of construction criticism, kind comments or remarks and ratings is what keeps each and everyone of us to keep on shooting. Keep up the good work and I will be back to see new postings.

Pavle Marjanovic , January 30, 2007; 07:18 A.M.

Bravo, maestro!

John Warren , January 31, 2007; 09:09 A.M.

Portfolio

Glenn, I have just re-read your CV............In the early seventies I produced a book of black-and-white photographs of New York (now out of print). It's weakness was that the captions were controlled by the then Editor. I wrote the foreword and it tied in with the photographs. I am thinking about re-tracing my steps and producing a new set of photographs this time, in colour. I just need to get up off my backside and get out there......because......I now have a caption writer.........Smile John

Glenn Norris , January 31, 2007; 02:15 P.M.

John

Funny... you like my caption? Well I am not sure that style of writing would really suit a book on photography... It might give them the impression you are insane - lol. I use that style as a way to be creatively abstract so that I sound like I am saying something without actually saying anything (even though there ARE hidden messages within...) I am glad you like my writing though and I keep thinking of a way to mix the two mediums (photography and abstract writing.)

John Warren , February 01, 2007; 06:00 A.M.

Captions

Glenn, Quite, that's why your abstract way with words would compliment the 'real' world of the photograph....John

Glenn Norris , February 01, 2007; 07:51 P.M.

John

I am happy to help out in any way that I can John. Feel free to email me with the details as your project comes together. Glenn

Donibane Sanjuan , February 04, 2007; 03:55 P.M.

Yes, I think John is right, you have an amazing talent to comment photos Glenn. I would like to have your collaboration if I (some day) public a book with my paintings and photos ;-)) If you want of course...

Glenn Norris , February 04, 2007; 04:48 P.M.

...

Donibane, of course I would be happy to help out with your project too. The ending forgot to take the beginning and tried to make up for it by turning the page. Anyway, the images say it all... the words are just along for the ride, if that makes any sense? Glenn++++

Madalina Iordache-Levay , February 25, 2007; 08:03 P.M.

Hello Glenn,

thank you so much for the kind words on my artwork, I appreciate it. Especially coming form a talented artist like yourself. I greatly enjoyed your gallery, the "crayon drawing" effect of your photographs is amazing! you have an original style and vision, keep up the good work!

Gino Tumbarello , March 03, 2007; 07:02 P.M.

ciao

realy great portfolio!

Josephine Chervinska , March 04, 2007; 10:50 A.M.

Dear Glenn, thank you very much for you comment. I'm very glad that you visited my portfolio. About lighting - sometimes I really use flash or studio lighting, and when I make photo outdoor I don't ignore sunlight. Second step in work with light is serious processing in Photoshop...

Tanya Gramatikova , March 08, 2007; 04:16 A.M.

Thanks ,Glenn, You have nice works here-good luck!

Glenn Norris , March 08, 2007; 12:46 P.M.

Markos George Hionos , March 08, 2007; 01:44 P.M.

Very good images your "HDR chapter one" folder ! you captured ordinary interiors very well - and your HDR work quite interesting - Well done

Joanna Kustra , March 08, 2007; 05:47 P.M.

Hello!

Hi Glenn!

First of all I have to say, that you're a master in HDR photography - I really like that unnatural look of every day stuff! That part with shadows is great too!

The second thing is an e-mail - please send your message to my new e-mail: joanna (at) qstra.pl (I don't use my old e-mail anymore;-)

Cheers!

Joanna

Vittorio Pellazza , March 09, 2007; 07:22 P.M.

Good hdr

Glenn, we can find more and more often Hdr photos, and I agree with the idea that hdr is probably one of few real innovation in photography (camera is, in short, always a box with lenses). After a crude use of this "effect", we are in the moment to translate effect in technique. To achieve this one, it's important to manage hdr. The different result is pretty evident: in simple effect we can see a heavy enlightened photo, interesting but similar to the others, with a lot of particulars. In the second way, more light is hidden under particulars. I think you own a good technique and you do an aware use of hdr. Congratulations.

Alpo Syvänen , March 12, 2007; 12:46 P.M.

Glenn, you had two interesting and beautiful portraits in the critique forum, I guess that unfortunately they took too many hits of 3-raters, as they disappeared before I had a chance to view them properly. I had a quick view through all of the critiqued images and then I started commenting those that I liked. Your images disappeared before I got to them. The one with the freckled lady had a lovely light in it. Her face seemed like "sparkling" from inner joy. :-) (This is my interpretation from the thumbnail.) The other one, with the light from the down to up was really interesting. It was very "high key"-image, which is usually intriquing technique.

Your portfolio really excels with the HDR-images and all the other`s are equally fine. I must have a good look to these.

With warm greetings, Alpo

Dennis Jones , March 12, 2007; 01:07 P.M.

Glenn

Like your digital darkroom work, especially the HDR. Layering and different exposures can really add to a photograph and you are mastering the skill. Nice 'folio.

Dennis Jones , March 12, 2007; 01:29 P.M.

Glenn

Thanks for stopping by and the kind words... I use a lot of different layers in my work. One of the most important layers is the High Pass filter - adds sharpness. I've been experimenting with a form of HDR and using Nikon Capture to change the EV settings giving me the latitude to get some of the shadows and highlights... Keep up the good work.

Slavko Kersmanc , March 15, 2007; 08:17 A.M.

Great portfolio, HDR chapter one (finished)is very beautiful...Slavko

Renata Bueche , March 15, 2007; 11:31 P.M.

Great portfolio

I especially like your HDR Chapter One series.Love the clutter and colors. You make the ordinary stand out and a little more extraordinary.

Beng J. , March 17, 2007; 12:50 A.M.

Great HDR images !

You are truely a master of HDR technique and your images are really excellent. The technique is interesting but need lots of time to do and also not easy to master, because not all pictures are suitable and all have to be planned at the time the photos are taken. Great work !.

Tony Hadley , March 23, 2007; 12:25 A.M.

Great Images. I will be back. Congrats.

Mark Evans , March 23, 2007; 06:30 P.M.

Glen. Quite simply stunning. I adore the organic/animated feel to your work. Your technique is superb and a long way from anything I could have imagined doing. Some people just have so much decication to their art, and you are one of them.

Thankyou for sharing your creativity with us all here

Steve Lamplugh , March 26, 2007; 02:19 P.M.

Glenn, I am so thrilled I saw your posted image of the old truck today, as it lead me to your porfolio which is absolutely amazing!! I have become an instant fan of your work. Not just the stunning HDR work which is beautifully produced, but your traditional photography also...you go straight to my "Interesting Persons" list!

Glenn Norris , March 26, 2007; 02:58 P.M.

Thank you all...

Steve, Mark, Tony, Beng, Renata, Slavko, Dennis, Alpo, Vittorio, Joanna, and Markos - I really appreciate you visiting my work. It has been very difficult here on photo.net lately - seems like so many have turned their backs because of the 3/3 raters... I work hard to rate 10 times more than I receive... cannot always find time to write long commentary but I always try to visit the poeple who have been kind enough to write to me.... Steve, thank you for appreciating my traditional photography as well as my hdr - I must learn traditional techniques also to make my hdr better, and it is good not to get stuck in one thing..... Beng, Mark, Tony - I am always happy to discuss technique, share tips etc.... Thank you again everyone. Glenn++++

Your portfolio is outstanding! I was lost among your work in awe. You make ordinary everyday scenes into something one can appreciate. Love your HDR work as well.

Andy de la Cour , January 04, 2008; 10:57 P.M.

Just stumbled upon your portfolio, and had a job to leave it. I think you have a wonderful gift of being able to see and then capture an image, that lends its self so well to HDR manipulation. I could look at the busy work shop pictures all day, they hold my attention so well, I find myself searching the image for every item. Great work. My next stop is in the web to look for some HDR tuition.

Julie, Andy, Roger, and Brice... thank you for visiting and for the nice comments - they really do help! Roger, I am glad you liked my comment on hdr - although I owe a little to the 'elves' for judiciously editing my original words, which may have been a little abrasive.... *looks around innocently*
