Nice images

In college, I studied astrophysics while earning my photojournalism degree. My university owned a 28" telescope and one class, Observational Astronomy, went out several times a week to practice our viewing techniques. It was a great class.

So with this, I love these photos and now I must get my own scope to do my own work.

Thanks for sharing.

Question

Forgive me for my ignorance in the topic, I really love to look at these images, and have spent hours on Astronomy Photo of the Day. But have never understood why people can get such amazing photos of star clusters millions of miles away, but can't get a decent start image of saturn and the other planets in our solar system? Including the now up for adoption pluto.

Anybody care to explain for me? Please.

Oh and Very nice shots by the way. Loved em all.

Alessandro Gagliardini , February 20, 2007; 05:33 P.M.

Really amazing!

Hi Howard, your photos are amazing and evocative and your work is really great, thanks for sharing these beautiful images of the space far away.

Woah

Holy cr*p. These are fantastic. I don't recognize the name of your equipment but it would appear to be an enormous telescope. Truly outstanding images.

Robert Harris , May 21, 2008; 01:56 P.M.

Magical beauty

Utterly astounding work. Attempting to take in the beauty of it all on a large screen tends to make you feel as thought you are being drawn into the void of timeless space. Wow!

John Golden , May 26, 2008; 02:06 P.M.

GREAT!

Hi Howard I just read the article and thought i would check out your gallery. Amazing work is an understatement, thats all i can say. I have heard folks ask "if there wasnt life on other planets then why would God have made all that out there?" my answer: simple..""" For us to enjoy and explore" and now i add something else to my answer "for Howard to take beautiful images of" thanks for sharing and keep up the good work

William Hood , May 27, 2008; 08:38 P.M.

Astro Pix

Nice images Howard. Especially using the Canon 40D. One suggestion: you might think of editing your portfolio down to just your best images and eliminate the duplicates.

Necip Perver , May 29, 2008; 03:39 P.M.

Howard I'm very impressed with your work I'm an amateur astronomer living in a light polluted location. Seeing your work has been a great pleasure. Thankyou for posting these. My best regards Necip

David Koens , May 30, 2008; 12:27 P.M.

Your Pictures are very interesting and bring to my mind the glory of God's creation for only God could do such amazing things. All who look at such things should really do some deep soul searching and seek out their creator before their time here on earth comes to an end. Here are a few Star/space related verses I hope you do not mind if so then just delete my comment. Take care and keep up the good work. All the best.

DK.

Psalm 8 A psalm of David.

1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Psalm 147: 1-4

1 Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! 2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. 3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. 4 He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.

1 Corinthians 15:35-58 The Resurrection Body

35But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" 36How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor. 42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. 48As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. 49And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven. 50I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory." 55"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" 56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Taking down my sombrero

Howard, Your work is not amateur anymore; it is highly professional work I have to admit. In my youth times I was dedicated to astronomic photography but your results are amazing and far beyond I could even dream about. Some people could say it is all question of equipment, but I know and I am sure everybody who got ever involved with astrophotography knows how much sacrifices, time and money are hidden behind these wonderful images. Only I can say is thank you for sharing them with us. My very best regards, please keep posting. Miroslav

Richard Cox , June 07, 2008; 01:55 P.M.

I don't think that people who haven't attempted astrophotography can really appreciate it's difficulties. It takes plenty of time and even more money. These photos are astounding!!!!! Highest regards.
