Hi John
Always something of the truly graceful to see in your portfolio John, its like a meditation experience. Keep posting!
Do you want me to jump onto pics and comment on line /technique /composition / treatment or is it ok when I just look on the whole body of work and feel regenerated??! In many respects (not all of course) we have a very similar approach and choices of subject. I think technically you are *far* more in control of your camera than I am; not being competitve about this, simply an observation. I feel rather like a teenage kid out in his dad's high spec car, and not knowing how to steer it at all well to leverage its' performance, which is fair enough as have just got a new camera and am still finding my way with it. Personally I'd be happy if you wanted to crawl all over my pics, as what I see in yours makes me comfortable that you "get" mine and let them do what they are trying to do.
Best wishes, Mariellen

First, let me thank you for visiting my folders and your kind comment. Now, lets talk about you. Amazing how we stumble thru PN and never see the great works of some photographers. Yet, when I find one that is good as yours, well, Bravo for both of us. It is a pleasure viewing your work and I really like all your folders. The bark folder is very interesting and well done. Close up's of flowers really caught my eye. Well done my friend. Regards, Michael

You also have a very diversified folder! Your bark folder is fascinating - so many different textures - things we all take for granted but they're so different! Good eye! I love that swollen river - gorgeous colour and mood! As are so many of your images. I will stop by every so often and see what's new!

I've only managed a quick glance through you portfolio so far, but I'm mightliy humbled. Its yet another place to come for motivation, and inspiration.
I'll drop by soon and make some comments on those which grab me.

Hi john Thanks for your input, Had a scroll through your portfolio. Good, tight clean work, however, I would like to see you spread your wings somewhat.
We know you can take flowers and plants well and a great deal of that is to do with a reliance on the macro/micro lens .You are better than that. Stand back once in awhile and introduce some figures, you will surprise yourself SMILE John

John, I've tried to take nature pictures many times and haven't been very successful. After looking at yours, I feel motivated to give it a dedicated effort to see what I can do. I particularly like the details folder, because of, well, the details. You have captured many of the little things that I have a tendency to overlook in pursuit of the 'perfect picture', when all along the perfect picture may be right in front of me. Looking through your pictures has given me a respect for your work and a kick in the butt to open my eyes.

Thanks so much for your generous comment on my work. You have a very diverse portfolio, and have done some very nice work. Tha canyon shots are magnificent, particularly the one with the shaft of light. As one of the other commented, it has a lot to do with being in the right place at the right time, but it also has more to do with the person holding the camera seeing everything around them. Too many times we think in two dimensions. Its that mysterious 3rd dimension that produces the truly inspirational work that we all seek.
Thanks again

Hi John
Thanks again for taking the time to comment on some of my images. This gave me another opportunity to go over your portfolio...just beautiful. Do keep posting and we can all enjoy them. That is one of the reasons for contributing here...so people can share the world around us, all the beauty there is. Perhaps it will open a few eyes, or someone will hesitate before stepping on an ant, spider, caterpillar, fly or other small creature. It would be well worth the effort of "capturing" them with the camera, and putting them on display. Sorry to carry on so...but it's a subject close to my heart. Best wishes.........Helga

hi John
Thanks for your comments,I think your portfolio is full of interest as well as great photos, Flowere (inc poppies), cat, windows, landscapes etc - just the stuff I like.
I had a series of bark shots and put a couple up for critique but didn't get much response so deleted most of them to make room for other things. Caerlaverock is one of many local castles and the history of the area is quite turbulent, as an Englishman living in Scotland I still sometimes feel like an intruder but we seem to almost taken over this wee bit in SW Scotland but still raise the drawbridge on an evening, best wishes

Hello Friends!
Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night 11-7-07 and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.
I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.
Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Nice
Great portfolio..love the landscape shots....yeah the waterfall you liked is actually a very small one in Patapsco Valley State Park in Ellicott city, Baltimore MD..if you drive through the entrance...go down the main trail, white marks on trees and head left when you see the mini dam...you will see it across the way...it's small and almost looks man made....you have to go over the large bridge to come take shots up close like mine...or use a zoom from across the water....there is no other way across, it took me 2 hours to get back haha...I had to walk through the river half way up to waist to cross again, in January...would not suggest it, haha...but yeah I heard there a bunch of waterfalls there...I only saw one though...good luck

You have a great eye for color and contrast. Your photos are a joy to view. I can learn a lot just by looking through your portfolio. It seems to be a good thing that you picked up that camera at age 5, and an even better thing that you got your own now. Very nice work.

Hi your portfolio is great!! LOVE your landscapes!!
You commented on my photo of my rat amongst the chocolates, and in case you didnt see my reply, thought I'd post it here too:
Thanks for the compliment :)
About the chocolate, unlike dogs and other animals, small amounts of chocolate is actually beneficial to rats and can help ease troubled breathing for short periods of time. The more "pure" the chocolate (higher cocoa percentage) the better). In this photo, she's actually eating a sunflower seed coated in chocolate, which are their own treats and she got none of my chocolate :P
