Wow
You definately live in a very photogenic country!! I see that you use the Canon 20D. I use the Canon XT and when i go shoot in dramatic light, i never get the quality and color detail that you are, could you answer that question for me? Thanks, and amazing work.
Piotr Czechowski
, September 18, 2006; 07:25 A.M.
Hi Victor
The final quality depends mostly on the lens/filters you use. I don't know what kind of a equipment you're using so I can't help you with that.
It is very important to expose the shot correctly (check the histogram to avoid shadow/highlight clipping). ND Grad filters are very useful in many situations or if you prefer you can take several different exposures of the same shot and merge them as a HDR image.

Panoramic
I lived in England for a year and bought my first camera there. I drove to the highlands for a long weekend and took nothing buy panormic shot of the hebridges, moors, highlands, etc. What a beautiful isolated space it is. Your photos are much better than mine, but they inspire me to practice and get back there! Cheers!

There are some really impressive images in this portfolio. It is obvious you have worked extremely hard to get these images. To achieve this light is something that one has to fight for and have unlimited patience. Hard work, but nethertheless it has paid off. You capture the mood well and the Scottish landscape really suits your style. Many of my favourites are in square or vertical format, they ahve a very good composition. Mountain of fate being a particular fav and 'the lost world' among others. You are very strong on your foreground use.. have you seen a lot of Joe Cornish's images .. he has a particulalry strong foregound style. see his Elgol image.
Ones that don't work for me as well ( this is relative remember) .. 'mirror mountain'.. 'Rannoch moor' and all these are in landscape format..I notice a trend here.
These iamges have such a strong feeling to them.
I was wondering if you might like to get into Large format photography.. there are courses run by 'light and land' where they provide the equipment .. maybe something for the future.. I think it would suit you very well and the high quality images, tonal values and clarity is superb.
there is another point to consider, about how much you want to bend the boundaries of reality.
The sky is always brighter ( well most of the time) than the sky and when you see the sky stopped down too much it does look dramatic but many not true too life.. this is a very contentious area and i won't argue either way..
I have had experience of meeting some Large format users who object to this kind of image manipulation. They use grads but to a more subtle effect. I would always bear in your mind how the image loked to you when you made it so that you can be truthful to the scene (depending if that is what you want). I have tended to err on a more damtic sky and then been brow beaten for the over manipulation by some real landscape purists. I usually go for the middle ground. I would be careful about pushing it to far and using photo.net's grades as a metre of the quality of your images as I am afraid that kitch images seem to be ranked the highest and overmanipulated ones score too highly for their real 'worth'. I think P.N is almost becoming illustrative in style.
Mountain of fate is a case in point. this has been marked 5.33 aesthetic aveage but is a superb image . The diamond shape of the composition is really wonderful and an original take on this beautiful mountain, it stands head and shoulders above most landscapes I have seen posted. This could be one of your statement pieces. barmy!
How many of the images do you manage to get into print.. Some of these are very saleable. had any luck?
Anyway ..lovely, I shall be stopping by again
Jane

"It is rare for a set of pictures to create such a stir at AP, especially when the subject is as old as the Scottish hills. Piotr Czechowski's landscape images turned so many heads in the London office that I headed to Glasgow to discover more about this man of the mountains. ~ Bob Aylott.

Thanks for your in depth comments on my "Garden of the Gods III". You are so right about the different monitors and I'm sure that a lot of the viewers are not seeing all that the image has to offer. I'm sure you face the same problems but we can only hope that enough of the viewers have monitors capable of appreciating the full values of the images that we have presented for there viewing pleasure. My latest photographic endeavors have been with my Cannon 20D and I have yet to experiment with HDR but that's in the near future. The possibilities are endless with Photoshop and and digital and I'm looking forward to exploring everything that's available to me. Thanks again for your comments they mean a lot to me as I think your work is both creative and a a viewing feast.

Great stuff, Piotr! Thanks for taking the time for commenting on my Mt. Rainier shot. After viewing your stuff, I take it as quite a compliment!
I remember you commenting on the beautiful location. Scotland is beautiful as well, with a wide variety of superlative landscapes and seascapes. The weather conditions in Scotland and the Pacific Northwest are similar as well, rainy and relatively mild for such northerly locations. Those conditions frequently produce dramatic cloudscapes and lighting conditions which make for inspiring photos!

Witaj Piotr,
Niesamowite portfolio. Ile razy zagladam, tyle razy jestem pod duzym wrazeniem. Przepiekne pejzaze okraszone malowniczymi, wywazonymi kolorami. Wszystko swietnie ujete. Zroznicowane tekstury, interesujaca perspektywa laczaca przepiekne niebo (zazdroszcze niektorych ujec nieba z chmurami) z woda i ziemia. W Twoim przypadku bardzo podoba mi sie ujednolicona tematyka w ktora wkladasz sporo wysilku i cirpliwosci.
Dziekuje za krytyke i porady. napewno zawitam tu niejednokrotnie. Pozdrawiam.
