Came here from the critiques forum & very glad I did. I particularly like your light & color. your compositon is also very strong. "North Lakes" & "Lattrig' are 2 of the best landscapes I've seen in a long time.

Ger Foy , March 16, 2007; 04:11 P.M.

Hi Richard,

First off, your a lucky man living where you live. Spent a few days there last winter and its a place of amazing beauty. A little cold, -10 when I was there and it killed all my batteries for my camera but I really want to go back. I have had a browse through your portfolio and have to comment you on some really well taken landscapes. Your use of wide angle lens, use of angles and placement of objects for foreground interest coupled with a very good use of DOF leads to some very powerful images. Keep up the good work.

Ross Yourth , March 24, 2007; 08:03 P.M.

Hi Richard

Thanks for your comment on my Archer pic which brought me to your portfolio. You say you don't have too much experience but it is very evident you have a very good eye for good compositions & some very interesting viewpoints & you very rarely incude any elements that are out of place in your images & you are certainly well regarded by fellow critiquers. The only critique I would have is that a lot of your images lack detail in shadow areas & in most cases a blob of black is usually considered to be uninteresting.Of course rules are made to be broken & you must make the ultimate decision what is to be & what is not to be included. I have always tried to remember these words from Oscar Wilde,"A work of art is the unique result of a unique temperment. It's beauty comes from the fact that the author is what he is".So if you believe my critique is wrong then of course you should pay no attention to it.Regards-Ross

Portfolio

Richard, Many thanks for your input. I have spent many a holiday in the Lake District and when I was working we often headed for the Lakes with a Mercedes in the certain knowledge we would get something reasonable. Your Portfoloio is excellent by the way. Clean, tight and imaginative. My only worry is you have fallen into the trap of:'when you get a first class landscape you the tend (without realizing it) to repeat yourself'.Try something radical and don't worry if it goes wrong. In the end you must get an original style that makes your work instantly recognizable. Work hard and..SMILE >John

60's

Richard..I was lucky enough to make my name in the 60's. My first studio was in Wardour Street,it backed onto the famous Carnaby Street where it all took off. Photography changed quite radically in that era. Colour took off and us Grammar school boys kicked down a few doors and changed it all for good or ill. Those were the days John

Christopher Harris , July 09, 2007; 06:53 P.M.

Fantastic Stuff Here!

Richard, this is a great collection of wonderful images you've amassed so far. I really love your landscapes and the Celtic rock circles. Your love of alpine country, rocks, geology, and the environment is completely evident in each of your compositions. I think you and I have shared a lot of interests over the years; I majored in geology in college, was a rock climber for years (until I just got too old and chubby), and a keen love of the outdoors. Someday you've got to come over here and visit the Great American West, and I be delighted to host you for a time and show you some of the country I run around in. Keep up the great work, Rich! Cheers! Chris

Alpo Syvänen , July 20, 2007; 07:06 P.M.

Richard, thank you for commenting my portfolio!

Your portfolio is bursting with incredibly beautiful images, especially from the moors and from the rugged hills. You must spend an enormous time at hiking and climbing. But landscapes aren`t the only collection, also the images from the people and the skilled animal images, are equally worth mentioning. It is obvious that you love your family, photographing and outdoorlife and that you produce great images from your surroundings. :-)

With best regards, Alpo

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Ken

Back from the depths...

Hi Rich!

No I've not relocated to Jupiter... I've just been buried by work over the past few months. I am planning my escape back to a blissful reality that would include being far more active on PN from the beginning of January onwards. This would be driven by a desire to catch up with the wonderful work you continue to present - thanks for offering a wonderful light at the end of my work related tunnel!

Maybe meet you in 2008? I can nearly see your house from here...

Best wishes

Pete

Hi Richard,

A landscape photographer par excellence. Great, imaginative and technically very accomplished images. With a personal touch.

The light, colors, tonal range and composition makes them a pleasure to view.

Seeing your picture makes me fel like putting my gear into the rucksack and getting out. But I am an urbane photographer, cityscapes and people are my thing..

All the best to you

Thanks for your comments

Richard--Thanks for your comments on my "Dock on the Bay". It hit home as I stuggled with exactly what you mentioned regarding adding foreground to add depth but opted against it because I felt the foreground was to messy. I did post the other addition with the the foreground in my folio so if time avails, have a look and let me know what you think. You have a wonderful portfolio and will look forward to checking back. Best Wishes and happy shooting!

Hello Richard

On looking through your work, it brings to me the conviction that you have produced some memorable landscape photos. I trust this is your favourite branch of photography Richard and for that reason you do excel with this subject. Not taking anything away from your other work, which in itself is excellent, but your landscapes are produced with a flair and passion which is not evident in many others on this site....Take care and Kind Regards.....Keith

Richard, thanks for commenting on Desert Rangers. I looked at your portfolio; you have a nice natural approach to landscape photography. Please allow me to give you my five cents on your images. I believe with a little more clarity in cropping you could achive a more effective composition. I include three images here of yours to illustrate what I mean. Image 1, Image 2, Image 3. Cheers, Mark.
