Dear Dave
I read your biography with attention and then check out your portfolio. I must say that you are better photographer than others that post a lot of stuff and I find extremely amateur...but your photos are very good, specially after reading your words...Please keep shooting and posting...the portrait in your biography is very good as well, meaning that tells something real about the subject, rather than something abstract.

Thanks Dave
I appreciate your kind thoughts on my photography. I haven't seen your work before and appreciate the opportunity of view your "folk photography". I love the term. Mind if I use it sometime? I can tell from your work we have a similar eye. That is seeing beauty others are too busy to notice. I like the pattern and repetition common to some of your photos. That is something I have been really noticing when I am on the backside of my camera looking at the great beauty this world has to offer. It seems to add life or at least motion to an otherwise still image. Thanks again and happy shooting. DMc

Hi Dave,
Thanks you for the kind comment that you let on my portfolio. I have taken a look through yours and would like to say for starts that your portrait is a very nice image. Some people are lucky to be photogenic. With regards to your image some of my favorites were your close ups of butterflies, the images from Baltimore such as the alley way and your images from China, including the lake with the reflections and the walkway/bridge scene. Well keep up the good work and take care. Katherine

First, thank you for your comments on my portfolio, which led me to yours. After reading your bio, I have to say, I totally understand you when it comes to the malipulation of the photos. I feel that so many times the photo's are just as good in the "natural state" then with overthinking it. Many of my photo's have received critique's for not, as they have said, Fixing them up. I love it when the photographer gives what he/she sees, as we were there at the time the shutter clicked. So if you call it folk photography, I love it. Keep doing what your doing. I enjoyed your work, and will be back to see what you add. smile,,,

Good eye for color!
Hi David,
Thanks for taking the time to comment and offer a cropping suggestion for my photo "The View" Your idea is good as it bring the composition closer inline to the golden rule.
I was looking through your work and you have a great eye for color. I'm sure I will learn from you as I watch you add new work to your portfolio.
Thanks again.

To all
I have not responded directly to many of these kind words here but I should say that they have and, continue to be, appreciated. I have allowed myself to take encouragement from them: to believe more strongly in my work and to continue to develop my skills and understanding of both the science and art of photography. Given my impatience and lack of discipline, I know I will never achieve the technical virtuosity I often see here but I do now believe I'm capable of creating beautiful and interesting photographs. Thanks!

Dave, your portifolio is wonderful. I enjoyed seeing all your photos specially the nature folder and baltimore. Very good composition. Hi,
Thanks for your kind comment on my pigeon image. It is great to have such validation so early on. I took a look through your portfolio. I love the more abstract detail shots. The group around the 'locked box' make a lovely series. I would love to see more in this style.

Hi Dave,
Thanx a lot for your comment in my photo. I would very grateful if you let me know about the technical problem of the photo az you hinted. I'm absolute learner here and thirsty for serious critiques. I really love the compositons in your photos in general. Lots to learn from them. Regards, Babak

Simon, Thanks so much for your comment! Although I want to keep my portfolio diverse, I do have a weakness for those shots so there'll no doubt be more.
Babak, I have elaborated on my 'quibbles' but keep in mind that, as you can tell from the unevenness of my portfolio, I'm hardly authoritative.

Thanks much for visiting and offering your kind comment on "Greek Sunset". As I peruse your portfolio I find it a wonderfully diverse and human collection of life... very good! I understand and relate to your "focus is on the composition and the results rather than the technical arcana". It is somewhat paradoxical that as our photographic equipment becomes more able to collect our images, the more we use it to distort reality.... sigh, a discussion for others.

Adan Wong , November 11, 2007; 12:38 P.M.
Dave, thanks for your recent visit to my portfolio. I can relate to your biography because in a way I am not a technical expert. My emphasis is more about composition and the feelings and emotions that I try to convey through my pictures. You have a very charming portfolio. Your pictures are real, appealing and convey joy, especially those of people. You describe your work as "folk photography", but doesn't art applies to folk as well? like in "folk art"? ;) Personally I think this is beyond that. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work.

hi Dave
Thanks for your comments on my ,"Marsh & River" image, much appreciated.Have enjoyed viewing your portfolio which tells me you have a very creative eye seeing possibilities in unusual places.Impressed with your tight cropping to capture the essence of the scene. So glad you stopped by! I enjoyed your portfolio immensely and appreciated the chance to enjoy vicariously the places you've been (next time, I'll bring a fly rod :>)
Yeah, I guess I'm a bit "old school" about tight crops (and may sometimes come across as "Dave the Butcher" in the critique forum) but I'm learning to moderate that tendency. To be sure, tightening up the crop often gives the image more punch and can make it more easily accessible but, in some cases (where the composition allows), it can be fun to open the frame up a bit and allow the viewer to wander around a bit.

Hello Friend!
Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.
I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.
Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Your kind comment on my portfolio brought me here and I'm really pleased to get to know your work. Enjoyed your portfolio a lot! Colourful, sunny, bright, cheerful overall. Sassy girl with mirror made me smile real big. And I liked your single photo's a lot too. Eye for detail.
Thanks for sharing!

It's a bit tardy but I want to thank you for your comment on my Laceleaf image. Looking through your portfolio there are so many really fine images that appeal to me I've decided to put you on my favorites list. Will return to it later to post comments as I have to leave for work soon. Love the dog shots as they are so dear to my heart. I've had ten Shelties and they bring so much joy to my life. Best regards, rek.

I'm so pleased that you found some photos you liked here. Some, I know, are a bit idiosyncratic but I hope they're at least interesting.

You have some great pictures in your portfolio!
your compositional skills shine through the most in your "nature" folder as well as "single photos". Your focus on composition (as you state) shows in a very positive way!

Enjoyed your portfolio. The variety was refreshing. You take good architectural photos, but I'd have to say your nature shots are my favorite.
