Creation
thanks vikram, i have a digital !! but i am still truely madly deeply in love with my Pentax and Nikon. Plus developing b/w in the dark room is like a little creation exercise i love. digital has to wait ....for its time

Going well....
For some first experiments these are looking pretty damn good. Looks like things can only get better. Also, you seem to have somehow got a very nice picture of my next door neighbours, nice one.

Thanks a lot for commenting on my portfolip. I am just an amateur photographer, so comments from people like you mean a lot to me! :)
I loved your work a lot. I had tried the dance photography for 2 3 times, but could not get good pictures. Your pictures in 'natyashashtra' folder are really superb!! I also liked your portrait work a lot...something which I would like to learn!

Beauty and Perfection
I would really love to see you add more to your experimental section. I just love the "Beauty and Perfection" picture...simple yet amazingly striking! Great b&w work (the mono world is fun in its own way!).
Thanks for commenting on my portfolio.

suchitra, a fellow b&w person i see! i really like your Natya series. the only improvements i can suggest on those concern the lighting - were you u using the onboard flash? to me, these would come out best using fast lenses with available light. if you don't have faster lenses, but can bounce the light (say using a hotshoe flash), then i think that would give you a bit more oompf. i like the compositions as a whole. i would also suggest trying some shots that are a "zoomed out" a tad more and see how that works.

Good Expressions.
From your photographs I see you are a good capture of expressions. not perfectly into techniques. But I like those eyes and your objects and their moods.

Different Mood
Hi Suchitra,
Stopped by to see your portfolio and I have to say how much a photographer differs from another. Your vision is unique and thats what makes your pictures interesting. Keep up the good work. A few comments to help:
1. Upload only your most strongest images.
2. If you have 3 or 4 different images, similar to each other, show only one. Greater impact.. The veil series for example.
Thanks.

I find your Black and White section and your POST CARDS FROM INDIA section very much too. You've done very well with the ascetics and sadhus, I think you might concentrate more on building this into a more cohesive section as there are such great colors, shapes and forms here. Hopefully you have more or can rework some of these same images for greater impact (cohesive borders etc.). Overall very pleasing results, hope you'll continue to post more?

Hi Suchitra,
The first thing that struck me about your photos is that many have a very romantic notion. I think that's very sweet and refreshing. There is an innocence to many of your photos that many times gets missed in photography because we are trying to be so darn "original" So good for you for keeping the "sweetness" alive.
I also agree with what was mentioned above..You have some superior work here and choosing the cream of the crop will really make your work pop to the forefront and make you stand out!

I am grateful for getting in touch with you for I know you shall be a constant source of inspiration for me, specially in this beginning phase. Thanks again and Congratulations for holding the reins of this beautiful art so well.
Arnab Kundu , March 21, 2006; 01:12 P.M.
great!
I'm amazed by the deep and intense emotions you have in your b&w works; superb! Only thing I feel is what happens if you make some of your b&w pics more grainy? They have starking contrasts, have you tried killing some of it.
I love your color photos also. Those are much more calm and smooth in mood; that adds up a good variety to the portfolio.
Looking for more color photos from you. cheers and greetings.
Suchitra Vijayan , March 22, 2006; 08:59 A.M.
Thanks
Hey Arnab,
thanks for dropping by .. and leaving your comments
Inherently I am a black and white person .. Some times i find it rather hard to shoot colour. May be over the last 2 years I have come to train my self to see in B/W.
The Contrast
I guess as a photographer i have changed from the first time i started shooting. In the begining my images had a balance in contrast, then there was a heavy grain stage and then a phase where I was resorting to thick black borders and now this ..
May be the transition is hard to follow as most of my original images are no longer in the gallery.
I might kill the contrast ! matter of getting over this stage ..
Grain
depends on the ISO used to shoot and at times added using PS.. that I try not to.
I will be off to Barcelona and Istanbul soon so may be I will have some colour!
Arnab Kundu , April 10, 2006; 12:50 A.M.
have a nice trip!

I had visited your folder quite a while ago but though your work was good then, your recent stuff has an awesome and brooding energy. To say you have improved is to merely comment on technicalities. I'd say you are on the verge of that most difficult of photographic achievements - a vision of one's own. Mind you, I don't think you are there yet :) but still I see a development and trajectory visible in few other PN portfolios. It's not about the gear, not even about the technique or the light - it's about the vision - and that is something I see emerging in your work!
best,
-A

Hey, I know its been a super long time since I came this side of the internet. Just wanted to say your recent b/w photos are simply amazing especially the stolen moments. I am able to see that you are maturing big time with using light and DOF, and composition/crop. Suchitra, you really did a great job capturing life on the streets of Bombay. The characters are very reminiscent of a film by a contemporary Indian director (perhaps her only commendable work). Your pictures strike me as a very genuine portrayal, in the sense you almost never seem to have perturbed the scene by intruding as an outsider. The faces and expressions are frozen as if unaware. A very vibrant set of pictures. Makes me come back to them. (Maybe I should persuade you to visit Kolkata/Calcutta sometimes. It'd be good to see how my city looks through your lens)

Wonderful images, great technique (I like particularly b&w) and expressive and touching moments. I agree to look for maximum details in photos but, in many sotuations, expressiveness and to catch the right moment make details a minor issue, sometimes a they distract. Very professional, congrats.
Umapathy C , September 19, 2007; 11:17 P.M.
i cant comment on any single snap of yours which will end up as an injustice for the rest. going through your portfolio, gave an experience of going to some real gallery, every single photo is so intense. your portfolio make me very small before you:-).
my observation on your gallery is that, though your black & whites are excellent and shows your talents, i love your very few colour shots. they look very different and out of the box. the saturation levels and colours are very unique. i would love to see more of your color shots.
