I consider it an honor to be first to comment on your portfolio. While you have only posted three photographs so far, they are all "winners" and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.

Welcome to PN and please keep posting more great stuff!

Paul Kleissle , August 23, 2005; 01:35 P.M.

Jeff Henderson , August 26, 2005; 10:05 P.M.

Hi, Susan. I'm glad to see that you have begun to rediscover photography and that you are not allowing the transition into digital intimidate you. You have an excellent eye and are quite creative. I hope to see more from you. Keep up the great work.

Susan:

Many thanks for your comments on my La Ventana photo. I am very fortunate to live in an area so full of photo opps. Your pics are great! I think you have transferred all you photog savey into digital. The computer is gravy compared to digital photog. I really like the "papalote" pic (windmill). I have an old #4 somewhwere.

Susan

Susan Wolfe here. Another middle aged woman on a farm. I've been noticing your photos. Very nice. I love the hay rake. It looks like an amusement ride. I live on a dairy farm and sometimes wish I lived near waterfalls, mountains and the ocean. But beauty is where you find it, right? You're finding it. No wonder we liked the corn crib! Keep up the good work.

Raphael Lopez , August 29, 2005; 08:14 P.M.

Dear Susan, You have so many beautiful images and your portfolio is filling by them per day. ! It is incredible, you started a few weeks ago and yet, you have done so well. Look how many comments you have, how many fellow photographers have found the way to you. I wish you to continue like that, as you are so talented. It also shows, that no matter when one is, if one has open eyes and talent, the beauty can be found everywhere.

Janis OKelley , March 29, 2006; 10:06 A.M.

Susan

Your abstract work makes it hard for me to even sit here and type. I have lots of great subjects all around. Your work is really good. I am still in the toddler stage of photography, and I am enjoying every minute of it! I read something that you wrote about a Photoshop Workshop, how was it? My husband just bought me Photoshop CS2 and I am overwhelmed. Hope they have a workshop one day here in the woods of east Texas! Again, I really enjoyed your portfolio. Thanks

I was so hoping you'd post more of you ranch imagery. Looks fabulous! I wondered if your walkabout went well in the canyons? Drop me a line and let me know how you're doing?

Susan Stone , June 30, 2006; 09:01 A.M.

Overdue Thankyou.

I seldom check my portfolio for comments and my "Thankyou Everyone" is long overdue. My time spent on PN is limited with my job as a ranchhand, but this is my R&R when I do get some extra time and sharing this fun hobby with all of you great PNer's has been a wonderful experience. Soooooo Mucho Gracias everyone!

Neil Murray , July 23, 2006; 08:17 P.M.

Hello Susan, I came to your site after following the discussion about 3/3s on your site feedback post. For what it's worth, I think your three other sunset/sunrise shots are far superior to the one in question. I have enjoyed looking through your portfolio. One thing that struck me immediately is that you photograph interesting subject matter; at least it is to me . And that's half the battle in getting attention. I also think you compose well and produce well exposed, colourful photos. Look forward to seeing more. The ranch work seems to offer plenty of scope for your photography. All the best, Neil

Giuseppe Miriello , July 24, 2006; 03:59 P.M.

ni susan... i just wanted to drop by some words on the "abstract" section of your portfolio... i found it very nice and intresting... nice shots, nice framing of close-up objects, nice level of details and composition, not too much saturation (when not needed)... and i also loved to see that you keep your eye for details even when shooting cows... i love the picture where it only shows the cow number... keep it this way.. regards

Francisco Ribeiro do Vale , July 29, 2006; 09:30 P.M.

Thanks

Thanks Susan for your comments on Jaqueline and Ace photo. Jaqueline is my younger daughter and Ace is our greatest friend, a lovely dog. I am always visiting your portifolio to see so many beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing with us this wonderful portifolio.

Susan

Well it is quite obvious that you don't need one more voice in the wilderness singing your praises, yet I would be remiss if I did not tell you (as have many before me) that there are some wonderful, evocative, and bracing photos in your portfolio. I enjoyed the tour. Good work.

Susan Stone , July 30, 2006; 02:04 P.M.

A heartfelt thanks.

Not having a link to my portfolio comments I forget to check here and am often lax in professing my gratitude to the people that have taken the time to come "tour" through my portfolio and leave a kind word. Your comments motivate me to go exploring and discover new photographers whose work I enjoy.......you fellow PNer's.

Bill Scott , August 03, 2006; 09:44 P.M.

Hi Susan! Thanks for your kind comments on my Death Valley work up with the indian and my sunset photo. I was honored to be able to stomp through your portfolio and view your wonderful and much varied photos! You have a high degree of quality in all of them! I also read of your misfortune on trying to trade in your old equipment. I have decided to keep my Medium Format equipment just because of what you faced. Film cameras have really lost their value because of the digital take over, and although I am all "digital" nowadays, I am going to break out the film stuff from time to time.

Keep taking those wonderful photos! And, thanks for sharing!

Bill

Andrea Allison , August 17, 2006; 11:27 A.M.

Doug Oldham , September 24, 2006; 07:53 P.M.

Hi Susan. Thanks for checking out my portfolio. I really enjoyed taking a look at your photos. I especially like your abstract section--you found a lot of fascinating subjects that most of us would walk by without even noticing and presented them in beautiful and interesting ways.

Wayne Melia , September 26, 2006; 01:12 A.M.

Lotsa good work here - I like the way you see what you see.

Jody Holman Webster , October 11, 2006; 10:23 P.M.

lovely!

you should find more time to follow this calling! you have a special eye, creative artistry, interesting things to shoot, great compositions... I am especially stunned with your recent single photos of the trees, door, and butte. beautiful, beautiful!

Gary Sadler , October 18, 2006; 11:07 P.M.

Susan

You have constructed a lovely portfolio. Congratulations! I particularly admire your eye for patterns. You find interesting patterns in the sky, in plants, in torn roofing, mailboxes, garden hoses on and on. I could comment and compliment many of your photographs but I'll just mention that I especially like "Stockyard at 20 below" and "burrs and fur." The guy in "well worn hat" reminds me of Festus, the character from the old "Gunsmoke" TV show. I'll look forward to your future posts.

Bill Scott , November 11, 2006; 08:05 A.M.

Hi, Susan

Thanks for commenting on my "Sharing the Scraps" photo of the horses. These were part of a band of about 12 horses that we sort of bumped into while riding dirt bikes that day. We were about 20 miles south of St George UT in AZ when we stopped to munch on a sandwich. These horses came out of nowhere, unafraid and just walked up to us! What they were after on the table was bread crumbs. I offered one of them a vienna sausage and made a great friend out of him!

Love your porfolio. I hope you can get some publishing assistance- I think you have some wonderful photos and a great eye for the life you are living and how to tell it with your photos.

Thanks for your visit! Boy you sure do have a way of taking a simple everyday rusty old piece of "----" and making it look amazing!! I like your "KISS" theory - it makes for simple and elegant images - and you've got that down pat!!. Very nice stuff here!

Thanks So Much!

Thanks for your nice comments on my Castle Geyser Photo! You have some wonderful pictures yourself, I especially love the sunset pictures. To answer your question, no I'm not from Montana. My wife and I first visited Yellowstone in the summer of 2005 after my return from an extended Middle Eastern vacation (he, he). We fell in love with the place and will be making our third consecutive trip this summer. Maybe someday we'll give up the heat but for now Florida is home. All the best to you in 2007 and I look forward to seeing more of your pictures.

Tiffany Oreglia , January 11, 2007; 11:18 A.M.

Thanks for stopping by, your comments are appreciated. You do beautiful work! I love the cow dogs!! I grew up with a bunch of old cowboys, working on cattle ranches. You pictures bring back great memories. I'm looking forward to the next one...

Compliments...

Hi Susan, I went through your portfolio and I enjoyed it very much. Last fall I had the chance of seeing a bit of that kind of land you seem to live in. (we traveled through California, Arizona, Utah and a bit of Nevada. It was a wonderful experience and completely different to Germany (where I'm living). I'm looking forward to sometimes go to Montana and Wyoming. A wonderful country you're living in and a wonderful way to show some characteristic spots from it through your photos. My compliments. Regards Rolf

Susan Stone , February 15, 2007; 10:02 A.M.

A debt that would be hard to repay.

The time you all took to look at some of my portfolio images and leave your gracious comments is very much appreciated. I forget to check my portfolio comments until someone kindly reminds me. I've enjoyed my time spent on PN and I truly think it has been with the help of so many people on this site that my photography has improved, I can see it changing with the passing of time, my photographic vision is still one of simplicity but I think I'm developing a better eye and technique for conveying that vision......thanks everyone.

Tom L. , February 15, 2007; 06:36 P.M.

Hello Susan,

I just stumbled onto your portfolio and enjoyed browsing through it. I think my favorites are your landscapes and abstracts but they are all beautiful. Thanks for sharing them with us....

Joseph Popper , August 23, 2007; 11:28 P.M.

Fine Stuff Here

Old Blue led me here, and I'm glad it did. You have a fine and varied portfolio. I enjoyed wandering through it.

Pascal Agneray, August 25, 2007; 10:40 P.M.

You mention Joseph Campbell most famous saying in your bio. This touches me for he spent quite some time as my personal hero at the time he emerged on PBS. That's why you are on my favorite list now. I want to see what following your bliss does to others than me (I did not do that too well but probably a lot better than most). I am looking forward to see the results of your philosophy (for I have pretty much the same)

Mark Lundgren , September 01, 2007; 09:17 A.M.

Great Images

Susan - You have some really good, strong images in your portfolio. Great Job!

Terry Gilroy , September 13, 2007; 10:05 A.M.

A set of wonderful images, my sort of photography - there are great. Regards from Scotland. Terry

Vincent DiPietro , September 19, 2007; 09:04 A.M.

You have an excellent portfolio. There is humor and a keen eye with some of the animal shots. Some of the scenics are absolutely stunning. Congratulations.

Alberta P. , September 24, 2007; 03:06 P.M.

No need for editing skills

I read your comment on Terry Gilroy's "Thresher" photo about your photo editing skills (or lack thereof) and I'm here to say that A. I'm glad you haven't perfected any because B. you don't need to. You're one of those rare individuals who captures perfectly. Great portfolio.

Joseph Popper , September 24, 2007; 11:42 P.M.

Susan, I keep returning to browse through your portfolio, so I thought I should leave another word or two. My mother was born and raised in Wyoming's Wind River Valley, so I know more than a bit about the land and people you photograph. I love your motto, and you do keep it wonderfully simple -- meaning you cut to the bone -- and that's what it's really about. You have one helluva an eye, and I think your work is great. Regards, Joe

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Ken

I'm over whelmed by all the generous comments you folks have posted on my portfolio, I don't check this part of my PN site often 'cause my slow dial up takes forever to download all the images and comments. I must say that viewing all the wonderful photos here on PN has been a definite inspiration and great help to me, so if you sincerely think I have a "good eye" you all need to give yourself a pat on the back 'cause it was with your help and encouragement that my photograpic progress has been made. The Christmas holidays are upon us and my wish for all of you would be that you spend a wonderful time with family and friends and my prayer for the new year would certainly be for Peace throughout the world.

Your Christmas greeting on the Critique forum led me here......wow, your photographs are filled with color, movement, and emotion! I'll be back to take a more leisurely stroll!

Susan

I do truly enjoy all of your works in your portfolio. I especially enjoy your keen eye for details that you glean from life's humbler elements. Some of my favorites in your many presentations are "Abstracts" specifically the "Iron Horse", "Landscape" not the least of which is "Solitude", and "Vehicles" with the hands down favorite being "The Chartreuse Mini-Bus". Here's wishing you all the best in the upcoming year, 2008.

Hi Susan

Have a great 2008. Best regards, Derek.

Your Black and Whites

Are very impressive, some of the best that I have seen.

Lovely Portfolio

Susan...really a great group of photos. Some of our work reminds me of Tim Keller who is also out west (New Mexico) and takes really great photos. I think he has been in the digital revolution for a few years just like you. Take a look at his portfolio and you two should swap ideas. It's so nice to see these photos of wide open spaces and solitude. I am sitting here with my laptop and looking at your photos and out my window is a view of the clutter of East Harlem, a far cry from the beauty of your more rural setting. Have a happy and healthy new year! Jay Mueller

Thank you for being you! The next time I see you, if I don't hug you just as much as I do your dog then just give me a good kick. 8~)#

Beautiful

Susan,

Very impressive portfolio! I agree with Jay Mueller above that you and Tim Keller seem to have an eye for the subjects that you have in common. Beautiful photos...artistically done with such original ideas. I look forward to viewing more.

Love your work

Hi Susan, I really enjoyed going threw your Portfolio your work is just amazing I my self is a country girl and love the beauty of it...Thank you for sharing :)

J Kilgo , February 13, 2008; 08:13 P.M.

Thanks for your comment and suggestion...and yes I am blessed to have two beautiful daughters for models...although sometimes they get tired of me snapping their pictures. You have a wonderful portfolio, I was attract to it first by the picture of the elk. I love the tones and textures in many of your photos and the feel that your images evoke. Everytime I see old farm/ranch stuff I wonder what stories they could tell. Nice job.

LK Hill , February 20, 2008; 10:56 P.M.

homesick..

as a wanna be country girl, your wonderful pictures make me long for the beauty!!

My curiosity brought me here. Frequent visitor to David Mayers web site, I had seen you comments and, thanks God, I ended up here. You have a very interesting and colorful portfolio. First, I just wanted to comment some of you images, then ended up, seeing and enjoying many of your images. "Red door", "This one's for Brian" , "A crown of thorns", Barn shadows" , "Fall magic (IR)" and so on and so on,, Your landscape, people, cars, all, all, a nice photographs. I going to spend more time at you portfolio in the future.

Best regard, from Toronto; Bela

Nice body of work

Susan, so I'm doing my evening stroll thru PN and came across the outhouse shot. which led me to your folio. Outstanding is the word the best describes it. Will be back as time permits to check out your latest additions and check out Tim Keller's " They once roamed the Earth " folio. I think you and he have alot in common as far as old trucks and cars go. Also left you a comment on" waiting for the horse"...RAY

Most enjoyable collection of images.Amusing, moving and just simply beautiful. You obviously live in an inspiring area and certainly make the most of it. Your shots of decaying buildings and vehicles are excellent, stories told with each image Your grandchildren will love the way you have captured their childhood when they are older.I am still building up courage to post some of my work but it's a frightening thought that thousands of people will see it. I live between the Highlands of Scotland and the Island of Colonsay so plenty scope to follow a similar path to yourself as you would see if I could get round to it!Keep up the good work,I look forward to seeing more. All the best Dave.

Hello Susan! First thank you for your rating!! You have a wonderful collection here! I see many images with great treatemnt and work with textures! I too love working with images and to bring out their textures and colors;)

Tim Keller , February 05, 2010; 07:29 A.M.

Hi Susan

It's so nice to see a portrait of you -- a self-portrait, I assume? -- and what a great one it is. I look forward to finally meeting up face to face, lens to lens, hopefully this year. Good road, Tim

Susan Stone , February 05, 2010; 10:08 A.M.

I'm not a frequent visitor to Photo.Net anymore, I do occassionally post an image and try to take a peek at others work, but I always forget to check comments on my portfolio. I so much appreciate the time that everyone took to view some of the photos and leave the thoughtful comments. No Tim, it's not a "self-portrait, the College did a two page spread on my experience at the College as an "older" student and the College photographer took the shot....I think the portrait is way too "cheesey" and of course Photoshop helped with the wrinkles.

amey fischer , February 09, 2010; 01:51 A.M.

Susan..thank you for your rating on my weeping willow;) I am new to this site and just saw your rating on image.

abstracts

Susan, viewing your abstract folder is like looking thru my own computer. We have many images in common. You must live on an old farm/ranch, or enjoy visiting one. Our eye is drawn to the same details in this world. Good luck with the school thing (I'm also back at study) and being a similar age I appreciate the energy required to break loose the mental rust.    michael
