Underrated

Hi Marino! I think many of your photos are grossly underrated. Your eye, sense of aesthetics and photographc qualities deserve a bigger pat on the back. Very beautiful folder.

Instant fan...

I like your style of photo artwork... but Photo.net where's the bio or article or info on Marino and Marino's style, equipmtent etc.????? Or how 'bout talking Marino into writting a tutorial? or need all us on lookers start clanging our tin cups on the monitor glass?

Again great grunge Marino!

True artist

You are one of the few photographers who are able to use the camera as a powerful tool to tell a moving tale or creat a tangible mood out of things that we pass by daily & often not even see. You are a true artist. Thank you for sharing your vision of the world with us. Looking forward to seeing more of your work, may be at the MOMA

Joel Rainville , November 17, 2004; 07:48 A.M.

Inspiring work...

Peter Bilitch , November 18, 2004; 02:57 A.M.

artistic composition

Marino,

As has been written already by the reviewers before me, your work displays a high level of creativity and shows that you have an excellent sense for artistic composition.

I would only suggest that you experiment more with different apertures, at the same time paying greater attention to the differing levels of focus upon all objects in the frame.

Peter

A great great work! You really merit to be in featured portfolio, for, in spite of the quality of your work, it alas stay almost out of sight in the million of photos of this site. It's true that you are new here and it is not difficult to predict you a great success.

Tuhin Saha , November 19, 2004; 08:51 P.M.

Werner Brodbeck , November 24, 2004; 09:46 P.M.

Marino, while I have photoshop 7 on my computer and am struggling to master it at the most basic level, I have to admit I hold mixed feelings about its infiltration into the norm for daily photographic use. Most of what I see is gross overuse to the point of gaudiness, a result of trying to compensate for poor basic photographic skills. Your pictures make no qualms about its use and coupled with a good photographic eye, your use of photoshop illustrates its possibilities as simply another tool to express an idea through images or visions. I think your work is brilliant and inspiring, one of the few portfolios that use the new technologies to truly push the envelope of photography into the world of art. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Terry Butler , November 24, 2004; 10:01 P.M.

Great work, I look forward to seeing more.

Dave Lotz , November 26, 2004; 09:48 A.M.

Marino Thorlacius , November 27, 2004; 01:32 P.M.

Thanks again

Thanks to everybody who have commented and rated my pictures. I'm really busy these days, but I will take time very soon to answer the mail that I have received from so many people, and maybe I can answer some of the questions that you have. I haven't made any tutorals about how I work and it's really hard to explain how some of my pics are done, but I'll try to give tips like I can. I'm really honored that you take time to comment and to contact me. I have no education in photography at all, but I hope to go to school in the future.

Thank you!!!

God bless

Bilal Zaheer , November 28, 2004; 07:54 A.M.

My favourite!

Marino you need school? please! people have a lot to learn from you, i'm afraid you might be "unlearning" at school instead of learning. There are so many great photographers on PN, but now I can say with certainty that you're my favourite photographer here and your picture "Sleep" is my favourite one in your portfolio! Your folder "Creative" is an absolute work of genius.

James Hong , November 28, 2004; 09:36 A.M.

These shots are incredible

I want the D70...I want it even more now. Although I know that an amateur like me could never match up to this (even with the same camera), work like this inspires me to keep going. You are AWESOME Mr. Thorlacius.

karen brookes , November 30, 2004; 08:19 P.M.

Wonderful

I know that everyone has already said this, but really you have a gift. You should certainly teach what you do. It's very inspiring to look at your portfolio, and it makes me realise just how much more creative I could be. Thank you for sharing your work, you truly are an amazing photographer.

All the best Karen

This is an aboslutely incredible portfolio, especially considering you have never been to school! Your creative portfolio reminds me of images created by the Fresson method developed in France and used by artists such as Sheila Metzner. I love the evocative and dark moods that your photographs reveal. Til hamingju!

Just stopped at your portfolio, you definitely have your own style and creativity, as written, many people like it, we could see them in some magazine and say ; "that's Marino's". I have not learned photography either and you prove again that having a creative and artistic soul doesn't need to have high tech material. As many others, I keep you as an interesting person Regards PS. Where are you from?

Hi, Marino !

You have really cool photos in your portfolio, I'm glad I discovered it, it was the photo you submitted for critique that made me come here (so intriguing !! ). I like your style, those pics are original, they have some really great elements, like action, dynamism, suspense, tension, I like the atmosphere in them, it's like plunging into a totally different universe (dreams, fiction/movies...) or into the familiar realm next door which seemed so peaceful and simple until you came with your strange, disturbing (in a good way that is :) ) Art. It's been a pleasure browsing through your portfolio, thanks for sharing !!

asking for pic

Dear Marino,

I'm a big admirer of your photography. I'm a 23-year-old young writer from Hungary, just preparing my first book of poetry and short fiction for publication. The title will be something that could be translated into english by "The Flyers' Handbook", and I'm writing to you because I'd like to ask your permission to use your photo entitled "Away" for the cover of my book. It would be great to have that beautiful picture on my first book!

Unfortunately, since the book will be published by a very small (but prestigious) publishing house, we wouldn't be able to pay you any rights, but of course your name would be mentioned in the book and we would send you a copy as soon as it is out (probably this summer).

Please write me back on my regular email (tomdaedalus@gmail.com) with your opinion. I really hope to have your permission, that photo fits so perfectly to my writings...

Sincerely yours, Mᴹ᳠Dunajcsik

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Ken
