Bradd Shore , January 22, 2006; 12:07 A.M.

Robert- Thanks for the generous and thoughtful response to my post on your Thermal Spring photo. I feel a little bad that I used your fine photo as a whipping boy for my irriration. I actually trhink your photo is excellent, and looking over your portfolio I see that we may have a similar eye. I don't for a moment think that I am an excellent photographer yet. I am very aware of my limitations, especially since getting hookewd up with PN. I think I have a good eye, but my technique needs a lot of work, and I'm hoping to learn a lot here. Some of the best photographers here certainly set the bar very high for us learners. My irritation has to do with some of the (probably inevitable) irrational factors that seem to lurk behind the rating system. In fact I think your picture probably deserves a 6, but I also think that if that's true, mine does too-- not for some egotistic reason but simply out of fairness and objectivity. By the way the picture that I meant to compare with yours is not the one I uploaded. That was a mistake but I couldn't find the way to erase it. My parallel photo (different but I think equivalent) is called Thermal Spring (I think). You can see it in the portfolio. Thanks for the nice comments on my portfolio. Much appreciated. Frankly, despite your generous flattery, from looking at your excellent portfolio, I don't think you have much to learn from me. Bradd

Very Creative

Nice work Robert, I like your Landscapes, in particular the close ups, the ripple mud effects in your S.F. folder are cool. They would make good Artwork as large framed Prints.

Sabino Canyon Critique

Thanks for the feedback on my picture from Sabino Canyon today. I have a cropped version of the same photo that uses the offset (rule of thirds) for the central saguaro; I didn't like that version as much, though, because of the amount of landscape and sky that I lost with the cropping. If only I could have the day back to reshoot the picture! Oh well, live and learn...

Jeri Thomas , May 13, 2006; 12:22 P.M.

Excellent photos Robert. You really have a great sense for composition. Your tree shots really stand out. Regards: Jeri

Keith Pena , May 15, 2006; 05:04 P.M.

Thanks for your comment on my photo. Your experience shows in your gallery. I love the Yellow Stone photos, I would love to visit that place, the site of the worlds second largest volcano caldera. I'm going to Bromo/Semeru National Park soon because it is closer to Australia so I hope to get some photos of active volcanoes soon. Thanks again.

You have a wonderful, colourful, and imaginitive portfolio of images! It is clear to me that you enjoy photography, as is suggested in your many creative photos. It simply looks like you're having fun capturing the beauty of the world around you. This is truly an inspiration to me, and another reminder of why I love photography. Thank you for your kind comments on my images, and portfolio. I am honoured both to have had you visit my work, and to have viewed yours. Thank you for sharing it! Respectfully, Tina

Jack McRitchie , June 12, 2006; 02:08 A.M.

Robert

First, thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave a message on one of my pictures. This has allowed me to become acquainted with your portfolio. I like to look at the whole array in thumbnail before I view the individual pictures since I can get an overall impression of the artists point of view. I was immediately struck by the extraordinary compositional strength and the harmonious color of you pictures. Your work has great balance and serenity without ever becoming static. I am quite impressed by this portfolio. Best regards, Jack

Andrew Garfitt , June 12, 2006; 08:42 A.M.

Thanks

Hi Robert, thanks for your comment on my b+w leaf shot. Thought I'd return the favour.

You have a wonderful portfolio here, I really like the mud ripples, and the shots of Yemen are fabulous. Thanks again.

Megan Woodward , June 12, 2006; 01:26 P.M.

Hey Papa.

This is your daughter. You asked me a while ago to critique your photos and I never got around to it, so now I am making an attempt. Remember that I know absolutely nothing about photography so I won't be commenting on things such as color, balance, symmetry, exposure, etc. etc.... but rather on how the photos make me feel, which I believe is really the whole point of art anyways. I love you and happy early father's day. Megan

Kent Draper , June 17, 2006; 04:06 P.M.

Thanks a ton

Thanks for the nice comments on pic of my wife. We both looked at your portfoilio and think you have real talent. Patti (wife) loves you trees and I like all of your black and whites. I also live in a small northern california town near the Sutter Buttes. We'll be back. Kent

You have a very diverse and interesting portfolio. I particularly enjoyed enjoyed your photos of the people and architecture of Yemen. I was there 15 years ago in my pre-digital days and haven't gotten around to posting any of my stuff from there. I still remember the site of your Yemeni Mountain Village image but all my images are from below rather than above. This is my favorite photo in your portfolio. Thanks for the comment on my tea plantaiton photo.

M.M. Meehan , July 23, 2006; 11:52 P.M.

Outstanding portfolio with excellent photos of subjects with meaning. I need lots of time to read through the information on your photos.

I would love to see this on the front page of photo.net. :))

PS: More Morocco, please. That is somewhere I would like to visit someday, too. Probably not as politically hot as Yemen is just now.

Robert Woodward , July 24, 2006; 12:06 P.M.

M. M.

Thanks for the comments on my portfolio. I will be posting more Morocco shots soon, hopefully, when I can find the time to get back to scanning. I will also be posting some images taken when I lived in Tunisia and when I worked in Algeria.

This is a portfolio to be proud of. I particularly like the Doors of Yemen folder. These exposures would make for a great coffee table book!

Hello

Thanks for your comment on my Ohm. Your work is better than first rate it's diverse and stunningly original. I fel that it's actual Art among a lot of pretention. I have to come back to your portfolio when I have more time. Thank you for your encouragement again, it means a lot to me.

Your abstracts are amazing, simply put. Keep it up!

David Meyer , September 14, 2006; 12:23 A.M.

Robert

I have already made comments on several of your photos that struck me as being the strongest. Knowing that, and having perused my portfolio, I think you will view my comments in that context. Outside of the photos I have specifically commented upon, I find myself most impressed with your portraits of people. In several instances you have managed to capture a certain spirit, which is an extremely difficult task. These photos would be successful no matter what country they were taken in.

Enjoyed the portfolio, and hope you keep working on it. Peace.

GungaJim Downs - Denver Area , September 16, 2006; 03:34 P.M.

Robert, I was in Tunisia in late December 2004 and early January 2005. There were very few tourists at that time of the year and I had three or four of the Word Heritage Sites virtually to myself. I especially like your Yemen doors and Dunnigan Hill folders. I was in Yemen also but it was 15 years ago before I was very serious about photography. I think it is one of the most photogenic places I have ever been. Keep up the good work. Jim

Dear Robert, there are so many interesting photos in your portfolio, but two sections catched my attention and preferences, the B&W Botanical section and this Gallery dedicated to Yemeni doors. Yemen is a fascinating Country, I have not visited Yemen, yet but I am so attracted by the art and architecture in this Country, I have more than one books on Yemen and I am so fond Sanaa'h ancient buildings. This collection of doors, with huge colours, with their naives, geometrical designs rich of creativity is so beautiful in your photos and the whole collection in this portfolio is a very well done report, a pleasure to see. Thanks for visiting my portfolio and for the lovely comments

Hi--I've been photographing the Dunnigans for several years (stanford.zenfolio.com), and you seem to be the only other photographer that has recognized them as a subject. It's a big area you can get lost in, and it's all fenced off, private land, making access tricky, but so far I haven't run afoul of any ranchers. I'm trying to put together an exhibition of them at the Expressions Gallery in Berkeley, where I sometimes show on other subjects. (scrimtalk@gmail.com).
