Thanks so much for your comments on my snow shadows shot. I kept going back and forth with the crop and finally decided I too liked the darker areas in the corner.....but then, what I like is sometimes a little wierd!

Alf, you have a great collection of diverse photos, well beyond expertise in a single category. I seldom look at architectural photographs, but yours are quite nice, especially (to my eyes) those that are symmetrical and that have a distinct spot of color. The "Iron Man" series is unique -- I've never seen a collection like that. I especially like your landscape (naturally): great color, and they have a dynamic quality that is often lacking in landscape photographs. I think its simply due to your approach to the fundamentals: light and composition.

Thank your for your comment on "Desert Rocks". Sorry not to answer your question re that photo sooner, but I've been traveling for the past week. No, I did not use HDR; I tried it, but did not like the results, so started over (I made several false starts). I did make an effort to keep the shadows open while processing, by being careful with Curves and by using the Shadows/Highlights adjustment.
I understand the HDR function is much improved in PS CS5 (I'm using CS3), and will try it at some point.
Looking forward to your future work.

The most important is noticing, smelling chances and composing. Sir, you are born for that. I'm not a fan of post processing, however your behaviour before really does comfort the together enjoying afterwards. Thanks Alf..!

Thank you for your input re "The Nectar Drinker". I always find cropping an image to be something of a dilemma and can spend a long time in choosing what's best.
You have some really good stuff in your portfolio and from what I see we share a common stomping ground.

Judging from the words in your bio we both share that same desire to learn and have no fear of the negative things folks might say about our work--I certainly find negative comments/constructive criticism a great way to see things from a new perspective and to improve. Your portfolio is really outstanding and an inspiration. I assume by now you are doing your own printing and mounting? Some of these images would be impressive as large prints. Thanks!

I just realized today that I have neglected to view your Photo.net portfolio. So after a gander I can only say... Your architectural photos are as great as your landscapes, which are as great as your macros, which are as great as your flowers, which are etc, etc. You seem to have a golden eye and an Adam's touch to photography. thanks for your comment it is appreciated! your pictures are superb you have clearly mastered colour. my only nitpick is in some shots for example hardknot pass i can see the line where it has been darkened for the sky of course you will know this. im not sure how you do this wether with a filter or multiple shots on photoshop with my photos i find the most accurate way is by having two exposures in layers then using the rubber to merge the parts i want. depending on the image it can be very time consuming
