Wow, you really are good! I know how tough birds in flight are to shoot and you have done very well. I like your reflections and your sunsets too. The cardinal shots are magnificent. Only a couple of years doing this, huh? You have talent, Deb! Keep posting.

Christopher Harris , November 26, 2006; 09:57 P.M.

I was visited your wonderful images here, via your recent 'grasshopper' shot. Debra, you've got some really superb images in here. You've a keen eye for the world around you, and it shows. I'm partial to your sunrises/sunsets and your critter shots, but all of your stuff has been fun to look through. I'll be back, keep on shooting and posting. Best regards, Chris

Ted Gorczyca , November 27, 2006; 09:07 P.M.

nice portfolio Debra, like your reflective moments the best though.

Christopher Harris , November 28, 2006; 06:53 P.M.

Debra, you commented on my B&W Yosemite shot, and I just had to share with you, that that image was probably about the 20th shot that I had taken with the camera, as I was on my first trip with it out of the box. I was driving up to Sacramento for Christmas, and on a whim, as the weather was so nice, swung into Yosemite and spent the morning. Totally not planned. Seems like when I plan like the devil for a good photo shoot I am less than pleased. Go figure. Hey, great stuff you've been putting up the past few days! Best regards, Chris

So Far in Such a Short Time!!

Debra, you really have come a long way in such a short time! As a photo instructor, I love having students such as you. You demonstrate a great deal of passion for our art, and you are capturing the esthetics wonderfully. You seem to be grasping the composition essentials very well, indeed.

Now where to go from here? Hmmmm.... I would say you may want to tackle that which gives the essence to the art, i.e. emotion. The calm emotion of enjoying beauty and loved ones can very easily dominate our efforts. I indulge myself quite frequently with these types of emotions. But I would suggest that you may try to find beauty where there appears to be none, and you will find a universe of emotion worthy of your explorations.

Thank you for your kind words on my "Sweet Nothings" image.

I can wish you the best by wishing that your passions are never satisfied!

Jason Williams , March 16, 2007; 08:03 P.M.

You have quite a beautiful selection of images here as well! The butterfly shots are wonderful and you caught some great shots of birds as well...these are both difficult things to capture well in a photograph! Looks like we share about the same level of experience. It allows everyday we go out to be a learning day!

Hi Debra -Thanks again for the comment on my dragonfly photo...I used Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG Macro lens...I am learning the more photos I take, the more difficult it becomes as we are our own worst critic! Sometimes I think 'wow do I ever have a great photo here'...and then I peruse other portfolios, like yours, and realize I have a long way to go...! But I appreciate everyone's feedback and realize it takes time...and patience...hope you had a great summer...this is the best time of year for photos with all the beautiful fall colors...!

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night 11-7-07 and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Debra -

Thanks for the note at the bottom of my port.! I'm gonna try and twist your arm; sometime you need to just 'jump on a plane' and come on out here to So. Cal. and let me take you to the Racetrack. We'll make a trade; I really want to come photograph the Texas Hill Country in the spring with the Texas bluebonnet in full bloom. Let's give it some thought. Give little Josie-girl a pat for me! Cheers! Chris

Raymond Banfield , March 16, 2008; 06:09 P.M.

Debra, I just checked out your bio, your photographs (WOW!) and some of the comments you left on my buddy ChrisH stuff. Chris and I shot DVNP in November with Leo Burkey and Chris and I shot it again last month. Very cool. I understand you are coming to Vegas this month. From my house, in Vegas, its a little over 2 hours to Furnace Creek. So it really isn't a bad run from Vegas and worth the trip. Shooting Death Valley should be right up there with shooting Yosemite and I hope you get to do it. Like you I have a 10x15 studio outside my backdoor. I'm converting mine from my painting studio to a photo studio. Kinda like to do some portraits and still lifes. As I said your photos really Wowed me. Keep on shooting and having fun...RAY

Evan Lavine , June 11, 2008; 08:42 P.M.

for your nice comments about my portfolio.

this is for cindy sherman's works...your self-portraits are very natural and that is what is great about them, and you allow the camera to capture you well. Very natural.

Best of luck in your experiments! evan

Francois Spenard , June 13, 2008; 09:29 P.M.

Dear Debra

Thank you so much for the beautiful comments on my B&W works, I had a look at your most recent work, and you are getting better and better with B&W photography also. The 3 nude shots are very, very good, different and as you write... naughty but not provocative!!! The umbrella scene was fun to do, a Club project, that on the surface seem simple but as we started shooting in a mild snow storm, it got the best of us. Keep in touch, and don't stop shooting in B&W, and as one of our Club member said: if you can master this medium, you can then face all other photography challenge. Cheers, Francois :-)

Johanna Da Cruz , July 03, 2008; 12:47 P.M.

Well Hello Debra, Seems as if we both have something in common....You taking off with your photography now that you have turned 50 and myself at the very young age of 53 years.Young? I have turned 54 in the meantime and still feel as young as when I was in my twenties.Yip, since we now officially midway to 100 we still have plenty of time to click away on those crazy moments and great memories. Great to think this way eh? Ok, now let me just say the following,: Your "Up Close" "Flowers" Mornings & Nights" Animal Humour" are just too stunning for words. Your Butterflies got me so full of envy that I just wanted to go and find butterflies but no luck since it is now nightime and winter here in South Africa....Maybe in 3 months time when summer returns I will try as well.I in all honesty loved your portfolio as a whole and must congratulate you on the work done thus far. Dave Holmes , July 16, 2008; 09:40 P.M.

Hi Debra

Thanks for the terrific comment in my portfolio. You made my day as well! I wish you all the courage and talent in the world to continue to do the great work you do. In some way you gave me (a fellow 50-year-old) just a bit more courage to explore new creative avenues.

I look forward to seeing more of your work! And as per your bio, I hope I might "bump into you" but from the butterflies in your album, I don't think that's gonna happen :( They dont live here.

Mark Harris , July 17, 2008; 07:40 P.M.

I too came to "photography as art outlet" at about the same age. It was just before turning 50 that I took a class at ICP which really validated the vision that I always had and ramped up my technical skills. I have since taken on new challenges and hope to do more workshops soon. I'm especially working on my people photography and am beginning to overcome many of my fears in that area.

Keep shooting and keep posting.

Kraig Emmert , July 29, 2008; 09:35 A.M.

Hi there Deb (I assume it's ok to call you Deb)... Thanks so much for the comment on my portfolio... I'd been here to visit yours before and thought I left a comment but I guess I didn't. I recognized some areas of the country that looked familiar...the Galveston-Houston area. I live in SW Houston. Thanks too for the comments on the Elissa. I have tons of images of her in various stages... I began as a volunteer on her back in 1982... during the restoration right before she began sailing again. Did the New York trip in '86 but around '93 I quit volunteering... too much going on in my life. Back to your portfolio... some really nice images there... I will return frequently to see what you've added. Well... I'm off now to spend a week near Mexia, Texas (and of course grabbing a few images)... Thanks again and I'll seesya!!! Kraig

Francois Spenard , August 17, 2008; 07:06 A.M.

Very busy !!!

Dear Deb,

Thank you so much for the kind words you have left in my Portfolio!!! I had another look at your work, and you have been very busy lately my dear... LOL :-D

Very, very good work by the way, that is the trick in photography, the more you take picture the more you learn from your last photograph. Love what you have done with your semi-nude photo, they are very charming, well composed, and what I like the most, you did not chose one of those skinny model, but you have chose a real women... BRAVO!!!

As for myself I've been doing a lot of Urban Exploration lately; I did some in the past, but this summer I tried to concentrate more on this subject, since I've always love those old building that are slowly dying from neglect. One new avenue I've also been trying is Infrared photography; presently I'm using a Hoya R-72 filter, but the bad side of using this filter is slow speed, I get 13 sec. at f5.6 in general.

Last month I purchase a Nikon CoolPix 5100 that I've send to Life Pixel to have it modified for infrared photography only. I will not have to use a filter over the lens, and the camera can then be used as and ordinary camera with all the normal function, except it will take IR photo. I should be getting the camera back sometime next week, so the moment I start doing work with it, I'll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, keep up the good work, you have very good eyes for the beauty of this world!!!

hi Debra.

Francois Spenard , October 14, 2008; 07:08 P.M.

Hi Deb,

Love your mini-reportage on Ike... good shots. These are photos we do not see on the news, they are closer to what people have to go through after a huricane. We do not get huricane in Quebec, a lot of snow in winter and sometime ice storm.

Thanks for posting.

Looking at your personal photo, the resemblance to Bette Mindler is striking. And by the way, the best years of my life were the 50s. I was single, just beginning photography and I had a motorcycle.
