David,

Hi and thanks for your "scoring" of my picture taken with a Holga toy camera. One thing can you explain a 4 and 4 as it will help me progress in photography. Also I dont recall seeing many Holga pictures on here. Your comments would be appreciated as I am pretty new to this "game".

Thanks Jessica

terrific gallery !!! Congrats. Greetings from Santiago, Chile. Francisco M.

Sean Joyce , March 21, 2005; 12:41 A.M.

I like your sunsets. A word of advice, if I can - you need to make sure you don't have distracting backgrounds on portraits/people shots. Once it is in a photo - it is hard to ignore the background the way we do in real life with eyes.

Cheers.

David Bradley , March 21, 2005; 07:48 A.M.

As many of the shots I get are quite literally on the fly, it is tough to get the background, or lack of background...but I have been trying to be more aware recently and will continue to attempt to focus on the subject primarily, but also pay more attention to what lies behind them.

Thanks for your comments...

Jim...

Dear Jim,

Thanks so much for your comments...

As I said in my bio, when I was young, I took lots of pictures, but then there was a large gap and it has only been in the past few years that I have been back in the game.

I like to catch people as they are, I like to catch things as they are, and I try to find interesting things wherever I go.

Some of my best shots according to people online are quite a surprise to me, and some of my worst rated shots are just as much as a shock to my system, but I try to learn from the good, the bad and the ugly and the next time I come across something I see that catches my eye, I try to use what I have learned and apply it to what I about to capture.

I have currently looking through 100's of shots I recently took as I took a bit of an adventure in travel over the past weeks...

More will be coming and I look forward to your insights and ratings over the coming days, weeks, months, years...

I work in education and I always encourage the young to do be brave enough show their work as they want to show it and as it looks best to them and not be afraid to explain what it is that they see in their own work and what their inspiration was.

Others may see it, or they may not...

It is a nice day in Toronto today...still a bit cool, and I have tons of spring cleaning to do, but I hope to get out for a walkabout later this afternoon. Maybe I will find some moment in time to freeze...maybe not...we shall see, but I will have a gander here and there around the neighbourhood.

Thanks for your words and the time it took to write them.

...DAvid

Ivan Colman , April 10, 2005; 03:11 A.M.

Sorry that my first comment on one of your photos was not that positive. However after having seen your portfolio, I keep it there because I was very much impressed with what you are doing with photography. Very strong images, great portraits, nice macros, and real adressing action photos... the whole photographic palet is present and you prove that you know how to play the game of photography.

Gino Tumbarello , May 02, 2005; 06:54 P.M.

ciao

tanks for comment! i like your portfolio!!!!

kris thacker , June 02, 2005; 02:13 A.M.

dude, your photos are wonderful. they capture life. what happens, etc, and all without the sad undertones that really occurs in most peoples photos. maybe its just the nature of most of the people you photograph, but you seem to have a good time with it and so do the people you photograph. keep shooting

Roberto Roseano , July 27, 2005; 01:56 P.M.

Hi David

In the first place, let me thank you for the ratings you gave to many of my pictures. Secondly, I think your portfolio is worth to be watched with attention, as it is very rich and various. My favourite folder is "Sunset, Sunrise, etc.". Anyway the picture I really like is your self portrait in your personal page: it's original and extremely "impactful". mandi, Roberto

Kimberly M. Barton , August 06, 2005; 09:31 A.M.

It was pretty easy to guess you're in education! I deduce from your portfolio that you are a lot of fun to be around. Your people and animal photos are my favorites, because there is so much personality and humor in most of them. The animals all look like they're talking to you! Your photos are a pleasure to look at, and a lot of fun, which is a great talent in my book!

Byron Lawrence , August 11, 2005; 01:35 P.M.

some of the color in your photos, is amazing. I really like the warm toned fall photos at the top of the page, and the people pictures you have are great.

Väino Aus , August 20, 2005; 03:11 A.M.

Hi.

I like your style and I am impressed of your portfolio. Intterest to se the world from the other side of the ocean. Wery variable with a hole lot of humor. Best regards from Swe/Est. V.A

Prolific!

David,

I stumbled across your work while viewing some things on Photo.net. I must say you are prolific indeed. Your work is not only volumnious, its artful, often humorous, and captures so many facets of life and nature. I get the sense I'm traveling with you and seeing things though your eyes. In reading your biography...I must say...its to our benefit you picked up a digital camera after departing from film years earlier. Kudos & cheers!

Clive Schaupmeyer , October 23, 2005; 02:16 A.M.

Leo Rossi , November 15, 2005; 06:33 P.M.

I would probably try and be more selective, but really there is a pleasant, unaffected atmosphere in this collection which might probably be lost were the selection more rigid. You are clearly ravenous for shooting and thats a great thing to be.

ric douglas , December 31, 2005; 12:27 P.M.

I saw I had been marked by you as 'Interesting' so I checked you out... great stuff, and we have some very similar subjects and shots. I have a lot to learn about shooting old cars, and I like the way you have done yours. Keep it up, and please look back at mine and give me some feedback.

Kenneth Fugate , December 31, 2005; 03:30 P.M.

Happy New Year! Thank you for all your support and comments on my photos in 2005. May 2006 be a very good year for you and your family, Best wishes from Dallas Texas

You have a lot of really neat photos- I like them and my teenage daughter liked them!

David Bradley , February 04, 2006; 01:04 A.M.

Sorting Things Out

A new year has come and I have been continuing my efforts to take more and better pictures. But lately I have been spending lots of time sorting those that I have already uploaded to photo.net as they were rather mixed up and in need of some better categorizing...so, I am getting there...I might create some new sections, but tonight I am charging up my cameras, and getting ready to try to capture some interesting winter shots. We have not had much of a winter, but it seems a big storm is brewing and heading this way.

Thanks to all of you that have rated or commented and I hope continue to look for those great shots or those great moments...your efforts inspire me to get better each day.

Thanks...DAvid

Damian Bradley , March 04, 2006; 10:33 A.M.

respect

David,

Your portfilio shows just how much of a knack you have for capturing the moment. I think that is what I need to work on the most. You have an eye for people, skies, and just about everything. It is bold work, with a real consistant style. Kudos for great work, I'll be keeping my eye out for more!

Cheers, Damian

David Bradley , March 06, 2006; 07:03 P.M.

On The Fly...

Much of what I capture happens when it is happening...I don't have a studio with lots of lights...I capture life as it happens and many of the sky shots I have came about as I was driving and the clouds lit up and over I pulled.

I am always looking for new subjects, taken in new ways and soon, I hope to upgrade my equipment...we shall see if that helps...or hinders...thanks for your comments...DAvid

Color & optimism

David, there are two lessons to be learned from your portfolio:

1 - There is such a thing as a powerful *optimistic* message in art;

2 - There is some pretty amazing stuff one can do before he outgrows his equipment.

Here's to you and your creativity. Bravo David.

Emil Jianu , July 11, 2006; 10:47 P.M.

By Helga , February 18, 2007; 01:06 P.M.

Wow, David

you have inspired me. If you only took up digital photography recently (right?), you sure covered a lot of territory, and very, very well too!!! I've got to get a digital camera soon, as I'm still using film and then get my photos scanned on CD. That takes some of the quality away. Anyway, great portfolio, and you have a sense of humor too (Eagle GTII). Regards.....Helga

You are a phenomenally gifted photographer. I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate how you see and manage to capture the world around us. Thanks a lot!

Raymond Elstad , July 30, 2007; 10:04 P.M.

Hello David, What an amazing portfolio you have with many fine images... if I may... I'm going to suggest, as I do to my students, that you become a little more ruthless in editing your work. The size of your portfolio is overwhelming. You have many series of images where you show us quite a few variations of the same image. My suggestion is that you pick the one you like the best and show only that one to the world. Just my humble opinion. I've recently started posting my images on another site where they only allow you to post about 10 images a week. This forces me to be more selective in what I post, to post only those that I feel are my best. This has also helped me to reconsider which images I post on p net and I have gone back, you may find it hard to believe considering the size of my portfolio, and removed many images from p net. You are a fine photographer with a great eye David... If we show too much of our work at one time though, we fast lose our audience. Cheers, Raymond

David Bradley , July 30, 2007; 10:23 P.M.

Too Much Of A Good Thing...

Hello Raymond,

I agree and have been pondering the same...deleting an entire folder is easy...moving or deleting pictures one at a time is painfully slow and painful, and I have not had time to trim the garden...yet...but I will...sometimes, like with the Mad Clown, I like to get feedback on different variations so I can see if I what I would have picked as the best is what the people would have picked as well. Sometimes I am right, and sometimes I am surprised!

Thanks for writing and I hope by the time you come back, things are cropped a bit tighter...David

M. Hayward , October 06, 2007; 04:54 P.M.

Nice portfolio with lots of striking images. I particularly like the ones that are bursting with color. There is so much here, it's hard to appreciate everything. I'd cut it down some - especially where you have three or four very similar images in a row.

Carlos Gonzalez , October 06, 2007; 05:02 P.M.

Wow!

Thanks for your comments...I love your portfolio, I like the bike section. Keep it up!

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Ken
