Thanks for stopping by my portfolio. You have many great photos, the sunflowers, in fact all of your flowers are very good. Overall your images have such great saturated colors, I really enjoyed seeing them. As for "Small Passageway" for a 2MP camera it's a good shot. Tom

Dear Charles..
Thank you very much for your kind and intructive comments. I had a look as you suggested in your portofolio and I discovered some real jewels here. My thoughts on your treatment of abstracts are vaque and I don't think they would help you much. I know one thing though; Is the result that matters. Regards ''Kranos'' feel free if you like to experiment with it. It would be interesting to see what you come up with. Note though some historical facts about it. ''Kranos'' (helmet) was worn in 490 BC in the battle of Marathon by a Greek participant. On the other side of it there is a gaping hole caused by a spear we assume that the wearer died. Kranos is now one of the exhibits at the British museum. Armed with this information it woul be interesting, as I said, to see the result should you decide to do something with it. Warmest regards. Dimitris.

Quite a fine portfolio you have and about the PS stuff, don't worry, you can only use it for color balance and brightness contrast. I use it a lot because I don't have what to take pictures of and must do something out of nothing using PS!

Hi Charles,
I wanted to thank you for taking the time to comment on one of my postings. I really enjoyed looking thru your portfolio. I see that we have some things in common (waterfalls & flowers) to name two. I also recognized some of your shots from The Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. Is that right? If so we have another thing in common as I love to go there & just shoot away. I don't have any shots from there posted on this site (I don't think), but maybe I'll get around to posting some one day. I know I have the same reflected shot of the spire...
Nice work,

Congratulations Charles on a beautiful collections of photos. If you have such an impressive collection after only one year on Photo.net then I'm really looking through your portfolio in a couple of more years! I particularly enjoyed "waves of blue" with it's lovely softness, "magnolia" with it's great lighting and "hay" with it's humor. I must also comment on a comment that you made on your biography page about learning from other Photo.net member's comments. I will say, without any hesitation, that I've learned more about photography from Photo.net's members like Will King, Dave Dube and SO many others who took the time to share constructive criticism than from a mountain of books I've read about photography. Keep up the good work Charles and I'll look forward to your future posts.

Thank goodness you finally took the plunge. Digital photoraphy has changed everything, so we're all neophytes to some extent. Your thoughts about my shots at ESP are graciously accepted. I've been going and shooting at ESP since it opened back in the 1990's. I've got a good progress of change at the place. I've also spoken to the management to gain access to areas not seen by the public (eg. warden's office). Ireally liked your flower shots... despite my many efforts at shooting them, I've not produced anything like yours. Wow! Have you been to Longwood Gardens west of Philadelphia? I'd love to see what you'd do among those flowers.

RE: Colour Waves: These are lovely, beautiful use of imagination and colour, a visual feast! My thoughts are as follows:
Space amusements:
I like the addition of the extra shapes encircling the central one. It adds an extra dimension of interest, I keep expecting the Jetsons to fly in!
Crescent:
I like the small green shape in the centre, especially the contrasting colours underneath it. The green on the right hand side is good, it provides a container for the shapes
Root Canal:
Not really a good name for this one, (although I think I can see why you called it that). For another effect, and because for me this one is a bit flat, perhaps add another colour, mirroring the red lines, to add interest.
Clef:
One of my favourites, it really evokes a feeling of music
Polyp:
Again, bit flat, and for me, not really interesting, it doesn’t take me anywhere, shape wise or colour wise
Happy heart no. 3
I like this one, plenty of visual interest, of course the centre is the ‘heart’ of this image
Happiness in a glass:
Rather flower-like, it reminds me of an orchid in a vase
Flame:
This is lovely, I like the ‘flame’, I like the way the composition flows upwards, the green shape is lovely too
Well imaginaed and executed, thanks for sharing, cheers, Anthea :)

Night Light
Hi Charles
Thanks for your comment on my Night Light photo. Actually the picture came out underexposed (it was taken in mid afternoon). My camera settings were f6.3 at 1/640 shutter speed, ISO 200 . I changed the shutter speed right after to 1/125 and that "corrected" it. However I liked the mistake better than the correction - I guess more dramatic... although like you suggested mayby make a bit lighter.
Thanks, John

Hi Again Charles,
The "Hitting the Wall" sculptures that you were curious about is located in downtown Spokane, WA at the riverside park. One of the sculptures looked like it was ready to colapse - thus "Hitting the Wall". I did take the time to briefly look at your portfolio and it's very impressive - it deserves more that just the brief look that I took and will get back to it.

Charles, I like your latest three. Like me you have got tired of simple 'lotus portraits' and and looking for variety. That's when it gets interesting. But you need to to have ready access to the flowers, which you and are both lucky to have. I like your dragonflies, but as with the lotus, perhaps more so, you have to watch the background, although this is harder to do because the dragonflies aren't always obliging! I'll crop the fisherman a bit more, but I have already taken away a lot. I worked hard to make that image because to tell the truth it was badly exposed (poor use of my polarizer), but I think it turned out interestingly.
