"Whew", I just perused your whole portfolio with Ry Cooder blazing away on my CD player, what a trip. Your creativity is immeasurable. Some of my favorite folders were Desertscapes, dunes and Georgia O'keeffe. I'm a big O'keeffe fan, at a time in my life when I needed some inspiration I "adopted" her as my mentor, even tho she was gone, her art work lives on. I have a favorite quote (not sure who coined it); "Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of traveling." So off in search of romance, beauty, and adventure I go, but I must feed the cows first. Life is good.

They are simply great Jana. Thanks for sharing them with us. The pattern and colors must suggest that you must either be a mathematician or a painter by profession. Which one?. :-D.

What can I add to all the comments above ? Impressionistic, emotional, tender, dreamy are some of the keywords that come to mind after reading the comments, but do they really do justice to your pictures ? You have a great variety of images, and in spite of the variety this makes up one impressive portfolio.

My favourite series are "The time passes by" and "Bohemian summer impressions", but I find inspiration and beauty in almost every picture I've seen.

What can I add to all the comments that exhausted the different sides of your marvellous portfolio? Nothing! It is obvious that your pictures are the results of a mind with limitless imagination, but what I personally like about them is, that imagination does not stop at the point of presenting the image. On the contrary, imagination outlives the picture in the viewer's mind. Truly inspiring work! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comment on my image "Winter Gate." The thing is, it's not supposed to be sharp--hazy shade of winter and all that. But, I do appreciate you taking the time to look it over and critique it. BTW, You've got a great collection of images.

I could not believe your portfolio of work as if I had discovered a gem in the wilderness. I was first struck by your bio, and was immediately impacted by your release of "justice" from within your search. Justice can be described within the laws of physics. For every action there is a reaction (which is defined in the East as Karma) and this is not limited to the time and space within our worldly framework alone.

If this were an open and "conscious" age, it would be known and acknowledged that women epitomize the manifestation of creative energy in the world. Women are all powerful, and can level a man with a sheer glance. I have hope, and renewed inspiration when I see the power of a creative woman manifest in such a body of work as you have created here. You should join together with other women to share and teach each other what you have learned. You could be an inspiration to many.

Ah, but is that the lesson...to be more open to the possibilities? Your portfolio is inspirational and amazing. I could spend days and days looking it over and each time finding something new. Why be limited if we are ever evolving? elisabeth

Yes, Jana It seems as though our paths have merged through the Namaqualand experience. It was truly wonderful to be with Freeman. I was there in August-September of 2004 and plan to go back again in 2007 with luck.

You asked about your macro images. You most certainly have a eye for stunning imagery in the world of macro, with your use of selective focusing and shallow depth. The O'Keeffe style is also one that I have always admired, and hope that you keep shooting that way, as it is one that is often overlooked.

In the past few days, we have had a interesting discussion on this subject over at NatureScapes.Net, and hopefully, will start showing more and more of this style with many other photographers from around the world participating. Come on over sometime and take a look around!

Hi Jana! That's what I noticed first of all: most of your photos are so bright, colourful, shiny and even JUISY, I'd say! Maybe this is how our life should be? OF course, I also liked your melancholic/philosophic one's,but these seemed to be a bit pessimistic... I like such type of work anyway, they make me STOP for a while. And this is very important. It's a good medicine to have a catharsis from time to time. A tomu, djakuju tobi za tvoju robotu, ja duzhe nasolodylasja i potishylasja ney! Hi, Jana! When I said that I did treat the image in PS, I meant "Gimp" not PS, since I use Linux not Windows or Mac... Anyway, your test image looks much much better but the sea was not that blue. Acctually, I had never seen that deep blue in any area of the brazilian seashore. Interesting play of colours, your pictures, Jana. BTW, reading your short bio, if you're searching for mystery, mystique and other "tajuplne mista", why not looking within your Self? No need to give up on justice or trying to hold onto it - it's a natural part of Love. Artists try to express their feelings, their moods through their art, yet I wonder how many artists actually think of following their art inside of them, especially those that play with abstract things, and reflect on why they portray/create their art the way they do - I mean some deep, deep, reflection. That's not easy, yet that's where the real "mystery" lies, and the possibility of freeing one's Self from all forms of oppressions. It is a known fact that producing art is a form of "throwing out the emotional and spiritual baggage", which is great for the artist, yet how does it affect the audience? I'm not an art student, and I can name many more car makers than painters, but I know of at least one painter, whose paintings sell for millions, but he was crazy (so the story goes - well, some of his paintings deffinitely look crazy), yet the poor audience has to put up with his emotional discharges now (no, it's not Karel Got :-) ). Oh, is this PHOTO NET? Errr...where was I?...oh yeah, nice pics.

Its an area as big as NYC all covered by dunes and those lakes are formed by the rain every year in different places. Yet, they have fishes... Go figure. Your photos of desert and dunes are fantastic!!! Do you photoshop them?

Hi Jana, please excuse the tardiness of this promised missive. I have only been a member for a little over one week and I wanted to get a few more images uploaded to my portfolio before making this post. I have been admiring your considerable talent from afar since I first came upon your portfolio a few months back. Your images are living, breathing entities, you dig below the surface of your scenes and subjects and bare their souls. There is much life and emotion pack within these folders. As I am a slow browser, after months, I have still only scratched the surface. I look forward to the treasures I have yet to discover. I have noticed a degree of kinship between some of your images and mine, not to say that I'm working a your level of expertise, just that some of our experiments have started from similar places in the mind, although they of course end up in very different images. Please take a moment sometime to looked at my "Zoomed Leaf" image, this was taken back in the fall of 2005. When I saw your "Birth of Fall" and "Birth of Fall 2" I was amazed at how two people on different parts of the planet would independently arrive at such a similar approach when looking at a leaf on the forest floor. Equally interesting is how completely different the interpretation and result is. I've gone on too long and will end now. Your work is a pleasure.

Never have I viewed a portfolio that made me feel the picture the way that yours have. While most of us try to get every bit of sharpness from every image you go in the other direction and create these beautiful images. I do not think that I am qualified to judge work such as this only to view it in wonder and amazement.

you have a marvelous eye for detail and some very strong images in maybe different fashions. I like your work a lot and hope to see more in the future. I have to admit I do like your photography much better than the abstract work, but that's only a matter of taste.

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. there is a huge diversity here ... and yes, i see your love for africa (in fact, i have visited you portfolio previously and seen it then - remiss of me not to comment ...). here's a couple of interesting factoids: there was some research carried out recently, looking at how people structured their gardens. the results of the study showed that garden structures across the globe converged on the structure of open acacia savannah-woodland - akin to that found in east africa. in other words, people tried to recreate their indigenous 'habitat' when they were given the opportunity. factoid two: having spent my life in eastern africa, i notice that many people from overseas feel immedately comfortable or at home when they arrive in east africa. so it isn't surprising when i hear what you say! anyway, fabulous images, fabulous portfolio!

I found dificult to write what I see/feel with these images. The dessert ones are marvellous for who had been there and love them, I do, and I think all of them are in a wonderful magical point in the middle of photography-poetry-painting.

After reading your comment in your portfolio about the Kalahari - I had to send you this photo! We love the Kalahari because of the dry warm atmosphere, the quietness, the loneliness, the colours, the people, the animals, the red sand...they say if you once had Kalahari sand inside your shoes (while walking over a dune) you will always return!

In fact no retouching on the crowd, this was an early morning photo when the crowd was less, You still can see some crowd on the Taj plateform.....ONly touchup is conversion to B+W, level and sharpness touchups.....Thanks for encouraging.... Some of the joy of photography is being able to visit new and unusual places and create a wonderful image which you seem very adapt at doing well.

There are not enough superlatives to describe your portfolio. It is really quite extraordinary, and I'm so glad I finally clicked on your name to see your work. magical interpretations of deserts and flowers, Jana. And I got goosepimples seeing particularly two shots from Deadpan at Sossusvlei, Namibia. They seem to have been taken almost from the same angle I have done in 2003 - images I only this week had scanned in from slide, and posted on PN. Most amazing to find this rapport. Toast to you.

You may think this is a silly analogy, but if someone asks me 'what is your favorite dessert?', depending on my mood, I may say key lime pie, or creme brulee or chocolate something or other. Well, photos are like that to me.....depending on my mood, different things appeal to me. So at the risk of offending any of the other fantastic photographers on PN, I give you the honor of being my favorite photographer on this website (at least tonight). :-) Your work is in a class of its own.......first of all, you're so versatile......and your ability to capture a perfect composition is only surpassed by your outstanding editing skills.
