I Read your comment on Birte's dancing slugs - came to have a look - what a marvelous portfolio you have!!! You made a good point - yes a photo has to be able to stand on it's own- without knowing the circumstances behind it. Maybe with more experience I will understand that more. I know when a photo "excites" me or causes "emotion", I tend to give it a higher rating even if all the technical is not in place. But I see people give 7's to animal photos where they are trapped behind a cage and I'm not sure that is a right thing either. I hopefully will learn with more experience when to rate 7's and when not to - mostly from people like yourself! This is an amazing portfolio and you are obviously sooo talented!

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

jeroen, thank you for your frank thoughts on my photo of the flowers in the critique forum. just to clarify: what i was trying to do was bring out or separate the flowers from the background. in retrospect i suppose that you are correct in your observation that the background has become unrealistic, and thus counter productive to the image as a whole. i am fairly new to photography and even newer to post- processing with PS. perhaps i have fallen victim to the heady rush that accompanies the power of CS2, and have been going a bit "slider-happy". Hopefully, with experience and an open mind i will be able to dial it down and produce images along a more aesthetically pleasing line. Not unlike yourself. Some of your images are quite lovely, and all of them are (in my rookie opinion) technically sound. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out. aloha, stan

Just wanted to thank you for opening my eyes to the work of Fran Lanting. I had no idea one could use flash so successfully for nature photography, his work is definately inspiring & I will keep it in mind with me now. Sorry for being so ignorant & narrow-minded... something i always try to avoid. Shall we put it down to my age ;-)

You also have an excellent portfolio here! Its hard to choose but i would probably say your landscapes are your strongest area.. but you clearly a very balanced & skilled photographer.
