Great Portfolio

John: Thanks for posting such a nice group of pictures. You seem to get the best out of your models. All pictures have a nice liveliness to them. -Chris

Great Photos!

Hi John,

I love your work! I'm starting out and am trying to improve my technique and shots and would really appreciate help from someone like you. Got a couple of questions if you don't mind...

Loction: Where do you normally prefer to shoot? I can see that you shoot at various locations but do you normally prefer to shoot in a studio or a "home studio" kinda setup?

Lights: Do you use any from of lighting set up to achieve your results? Or just shoot with whatever you happend to have with you at the moment and make the ambient light work for you.

Subject: How and where did you get your subjects to pose for you? Are they usually professional models or simply volunteers or friends? Do you direct them to exactly how you want them to pose or do you tend to give like "simulated situations/reactions"? kinda insrtuctions and shoot away and pick the best shots?

Thanks for your time.

Ready to publish?

John, I think you should publish your work in a "Coffe Table Book" format, I really do!

I'd take autographed copy as your "thank you" for my idea :)

John Peri , January 11, 2004; 04:23 P.M.

Ha ha! Ok, I'll remember that! But then, are you sure anyone else than you would want to buy it !!

BRAVO

I have just lost one hour of my life browsing your stunning collection.Only logged on to post a single image, found one of yours and realised I have so much to learn.

To comment on a single picture or even choose a favourite would be impossible.Have you considered a gallery?

Please also consider posting a series of tutorials or go off and write a book. It goes without saying that you are now marked as "interesting"

Thank You.

John, Fantastic...! Needless to say, you are in my favourites.

Max Zappa , March 28, 2004; 05:50 A.M.

John !

I dont have to tell you that you have a great talent, well done sir. Old Max ZAPPA here is shortly going to be embarking on a series of nudes. I notice you use FP4 for much of your mono work, I a interested to know at what speed you rate the film, and also what are your experiences with the most excellent HP5 for nude work. If you use HP5 at all, then at what speed do you rate it.

ZAPPA.

How will life looks like without your photos ?

wow

Not only do you have an incredible amount of successful photographs but your views on the application of nudity in art form deserves the amount of positive feedback you've received and more!!

John Peri , April 20, 2004; 02:52 P.M.

Thank you all and Sarah too. I am particularly pleased when a woman is so supportive, because it means that she understand the respect and admiration that I feel for my models. Sarah, I love your photos too by the way.

One world

Sadness.....

mauro pelella , May 27, 2004; 04:32 A.M.

Right

There are those who found beaty in life and those who can only give light to their eyes through naked bodies.Point is , once they made one and they can't progress they make millions of the same photo and to give happiness to their style they cut the photos or just explore photoshop options to find different solutions..girls are wonderful...but all this is so flat. Plus it is just my point of view...if you are so good you shouldn't even bother

John Peri , May 28, 2004; 03:27 P.M.

What a sad way of seeing things indeed !!

William R. Hayes , May 29, 2004; 08:19 A.M.

beaty

As we say in Mississippi"dam it boy you lucky" To have so much beaty around you.

Sarah Kane , June 02, 2004; 10:50 A.M.

Re: mauro pelella

Then there are those who work to find less meaning in others artists' portfolios to validate themselves as true critics. I'm sorry but I disagree with Mauro Pelella. If an artist could capture the entire essence of a subject in one photo, without more exploration of emotion, p.o.v, subect matter, timing, etc. then this world would be much less beautiful. For it is the world's artists that create the neverending altering of ideas that make this world unique to all. To think that there is a limit to these possibilities is indeed a very sad affair...

sincerely, Sarah Kane

p.s. keep up the excellent work John!!

John Peri , June 02, 2004; 01:49 P.M.

Thank you very much Sarah. It's really nice to see a lady take that position, whereas someone like the gentleman above is implying that I am letting down women. There is an old saying in France to the effect that you cannot be more Royalist than the King ... or maybe I should say the Queen in this case!

Markus Maien , June 07, 2004; 11:42 A.M.

John

I have been admiring your work since I first found PN. It's obvious why women are so comfortable with you. There are few who, in my opinion, manage to capture each woman's individual beauty as you do. I just wanted to say hello and let you know that your work inspires me. Thank you for sharing it with us. :)

gregg johnson , June 23, 2004; 11:13 P.M.

John

You have a great body of work. I admire what you do. Keep it up, dude! You rock.

Mark Loraine , June 26, 2004; 06:51 P.M.

I have to take issue with Mauro...perspective and style is all...great work Sir, keep it up, and can I be your assistant ?

Best Wishes

Mark

John Robinson , July 11, 2004; 10:59 A.M.

Model Advice

Very Impressive portfolio. I was wondering though if you could give some advice on working with models. I always find it a difficult situation asking a model to pose a certain way or even bend a certain way! Do they pose for you or do you ask them pose in the way you want? I've just let the models I used do what they wanted....

John Peri , July 13, 2004; 01:27 A.M.

John, that's pretty much my approach also. I just follow them around and we kind of work things out together. I never pressure them in any way. I don't think that one should force any model into a pose that doesn't come naturally.

Frank Thomas , July 15, 2004; 01:43 P.M.

So many

It's just not right that one man should know so many beautiful women willing to take their clothes off in the name of art.

A bit tongue in cheek but none the less, it is remarkable. You are the envy of many photographers out here.

Keep up the wonderful work. Thank you for your contribution. Please tell your models how impressed we are by their beauty and comfort in front of the lense. A true testament to the artist.

John Peri , July 15, 2004; 05:32 P.M.

Thank you Frank, that's very nicely said and I know how well you mean it, however, we all know these girls - not only me - and this is the one message that I feel I have not been able to convey very easily on PN. The only difference is that I smile and I ask them to pose for me and, very often, they take up the challenge, they smile back and they say ok.

Grant Lohsen , July 20, 2004; 01:29 P.M.

Inspirational

Your entire portfolio is very inspirational. It is invigorating to see someone who has an unabashed love and dedication to nude photography and the beauty of the female form.

Matthew Shipp , July 22, 2004; 02:07 A.M.

BRAVO!

I love your portrait photography. As a rookie whos main interest is portraits/people and sports, I constantly check your portfolio for new stuff and ideas on how to improve my shots.I know you catch a lot of crap about some of them, but they are beautiful shots. When I grow up, I want to be like you!! HA HA! Anyway, WONDERFUL portfolio.

Manolis Spanakis , July 29, 2004; 07:15 A.M.

John, I don't know if anybody has told (this is the joke part) but quite an unbelievably impressive hobby you have and the results are even more so. You must be doing a very interesting well-paid daytime job if you insist leaving photography for the weekends. Den perase pote apo to mialo mu oti mpori na ise ellinas! Bravo; chapeau!

Stew D. Baker , August 01, 2004; 09:54 P.M.

Absolutely Awsome!!!

I loved every one of these shots. What gets me the most is that you don't appear to be repeating yourself. Every single one is different, even the ones that were used twice and modified in some way. Great job!

SIMPLY BRILLIANT!

I'm in awe of your work here John! Exquisite! Not a mediocre shot in the bunch. You've captured the female form in all it's gloriousness. I cannot praise you enough. Thank you thank you for sharing these! You're a true inspiration! Surely you must teach, photography, or photoshop, no? If not, YOU SHOULD!

models

john,,where in the world do you find all these beautiful women to pose for you??...(great portfolio),

Stephan Brauchli , November 05, 2004; 02:55 P.M.

Reminds me of an italian joke...

Not sure of my Italian spelling :)

At communion:
Father while handing out wafers and wine: "Corpo di dio, corpo di dio.." (body of Christ..)
Then he looks upon one of your models kneeling in line with the others and utters: "Dio che corpo!" (Christ what a body!)

You have a beautiful collection of photographs which celebrate the beauty of the female form.

A bientot

Congratulations!

Trully, amazing work, great eye! You bring the best of your models.

Joaquim Hierro , November 28, 2004; 07:33 A.M.

What an excellent portfolio

I really love your work. I've never seen so many excellent photos of a single photographer. Congratulations. Just a technical question: What kind of illumination (flashguns, etc..) do you use in your work?

Angel Pena , November 28, 2004; 06:38 P.M.

STYLE

I want to add myself to your legion of admirers. You have technique, good light, wonderful posing but above all you have style. STYLE. (The thing my clients don't let me achieve) So my friend, thanks. And keep inspiring us.

Carolina Coronel , November 30, 2004; 02:28 A.M.

Maybe I imagined commenting on portfolio before. For some reason tonight I scanned your portfolio looking for an image that stood out for me to comment on - after I hit the number 20 I gave up. While I'm not sure I am with you on your colored multiple image compositions - even those I am following and seeing where you are going. Some of your portraits and nudes are just simply stunning - seeming immediate, spontaneous, and yet well-composed, balanced and dynamic. Great portfolio to study and think through possibilities.

John Peri , January 07, 2005; 01:29 P.M.

Thank you Manu, that is very nicely said. Life is in fact a fantasy but, somewhere along the way, it is also what we make of it.

More then beautiful portfolio!

Todd Kowalski , January 21, 2005; 01:50 A.M.

John, You really have a style all your own. You have an extensive portfolio of beautiful women. Though I must say, enough is enough! Of your portfolio what I like the best is your "Anything But Glamour" collection, because those images are more a view of real life. Like SO many others who have commented on your work, I am in awe and somewhat-- no, QUITE envious of your relationship with all of these beautiful nude women..... Where was I.... Oh yeah, I ah... well, Nice work John! Regards, TK

Magnific

Sr. Peri : I like your job very much, is excellente and brilliant ... The way you select each angule and form , and colors whit the beatiful girls , it is magnific. On the other hand, the medium tones and gray pictures, in personal opinion, is your better one job. I would like to ask you, if had you think about black and white difuminate photos whith hard and softe light. It?s just an opinion.

John

I like to stop by a couple of times a week just to get inspired and see what I might have missed the last time. Always so inspiring, I am just knocked out with the breadth of your mind's eye in your choice of models and settings. I've even started to play with film again after noticing a lot of your Nikon F90 images. Thanks for all you give. Take care.

Artistic growth

John, I have seen your work here for a couple of years. It is enjoyable to see your growth both technicaly and artisticly.

Douglas Keller , April 26, 2005; 11:14 P.M.

In some pretty important ways, your pictures have helped redefine my perception of women. That, my friend, is what art's all about. Thank you for sharing them. In my opinion, this site is deeply in your debt for your participation.

Mohammad Reza Shadpay , April 27, 2005; 09:15 P.M.

Looking at your work anew

John, I have just returned from a 6 month hiatus (both storage drive and backup drive failed the same day!) and I started by looking at your portfolio. You are a remarkable photographer! Perhaps too bad you are stuck photographing one subject! :) Jerry Matchett

John Peri , July 12, 2005; 08:44 A.M.

Hy Jerry, welcome back. No, I'm not, but I only post one subject here!

fast primes , July 15, 2005; 12:22 P.M.

Outstanding!

Hands down, the best portfolio of female figure shots I've seen outside of Peter Gowland and he's not a member of photo.net. And your choice of models is much more wide ranging than his is. Most of the shots are tasteful, elegant, sensual and artistic, all at the same time!

My only wish is that you had provided a choice of higher rez pictures for those of us with large hi-rez monitors, but I can see that would have entailed much more work and disk space.

John Peri , July 15, 2005; 04:33 P.M.

Many thanks for the kind words. The reason why I post the pictures in low resolution though is to discourage them from being copied.

Jim McNitt , July 15, 2005; 07:55 P.M.

OMG, John. You're up to 636 images! And every one -- with the exception of Tony Perkins -- seems more beautiful that the last. To say I've studied the all would be a gross exageration. In fact, I don't think my cache can hold that many images. What else can I say, except that more than any other portfolio I've ever seen, your work is a testament to a life well lived... and we're all green with envy! Magnificent, John, magnificent! --jim

John Peri , July 16, 2005; 05:19 A.M.

Well, coming from someone with one of the most powerful and innovative portfolios on the net, I am very touched, thank you.

Strange Man , July 16, 2005; 03:48 P.M.

Love it

I love your women. What a feast for the eye. You are a lucky man, John. Treasure it.

Kaur Lass , August 08, 2005; 06:16 P.M.

Life is a circle. You can go around and around ... and you find: you need to know youself. Not only the name or the body, but true You! After that life leads you where you need to go. You are free.

Looking your work from young days to present moment shows it so well. Take your freedom! Change. Live like a child! They see everything for the first time every single day. I recommend that style. You understand more, you see more, you live more.

My family and shots of three sister you have, have incommon one thing - ability to be here and now with open heart. I wish you have that ability always with you. And I am sure there is always something to come back on this page. I recommend to look it deeper. Like you John. I recomend that everyone would see here something else then naked women - there is life here. All the emotions that you have (no matter who yoy are or where you live as we all share the same emotions), are also here. And this is what makes it great. Your work reflects in everyone who dares to look a little deeper.

John Peri , August 09, 2005; 04:41 A.M.

What a nice way to put it, thank you very much. Indeed, this portofolio has little to do with nudity and the majority of people, alike yourself, thankfully understand it.

edouard stéru , August 22, 2005; 01:41 P.M.

even if you easily start to argue, when we speak about your ladies. I don't have the choice and must admit it is the best portfolio I have seen

John Peri , August 23, 2005; 01:22 P.M.

Thank you Edouard, I know you mean it kindly. I don't think however that I have argued with you in any way. I simply asked you once to please comment on the photos and not only the anatomy of the models, which is not the purpose of this site. I think that we owe that respect to the models that grace our pages.

edouard stéru , August 25, 2005; 09:30 A.M.

I didn't know that telling they are beautiful or exciting is a lack of respect, again sorry

dREAMS * , August 30, 2005; 05:36 A.M.

In order to do what you not only do it is necessary to know how of technique, of lights or shades... to do what you to make Mr. Peri it is really necessary to be an artist. Congratulations. Luck. Respect.

Evita Dzanuskane , September 01, 2005; 02:07 P.M.

great!

I like almoast all of your photos! Most of them are supergreat. Exeptions are where you cut of arms legs or head.

John Peri , September 08, 2005; 02:55 A.M.

Thank you Evita. The idea in this series was to produce some more figurative art by concentrating on various body parts.

Hello John

I saw your most recent posts in nudes and remembered why your listed in my favorites. Can I ask a favor. Please look at my portfolio and give me your impression of the photos under the title kel. These are raw scans from the film so I'm looking for processing tips to get the most from the photos when I go into the darkroom to print. Also any tips on my lighting or issues with my posing would be greatly appreciated.

Mike Burke , October 27, 2005; 05:32 P.M.

My apologies

Sorry John, I didn't mean to offend its just that I didn't feel qualified to make a comment on your wonderful pictures. I've added you as a favorite because I enjoy viewing and being inspired by your work. I find as you say your are excellent at capturing the moment. generally I'm not a fan of extensive PS work however I find that I truely enjoy what you do with it as you capture and enhance a moment without over doing it. The picture is still a great shot. I find my favorite section to be portraits. I find myself spending much of my photo.net time here. If you ever find yourself in the NJ/Philly area I would love to assist you on a shoot.

Exceptional work and your models really look like that they enjoy what they are doing. I would only dream of doing something like this! Good night i'm off to dream again. Well done.

Fantastic Gallery

Cannot say enough about your gallery, Having read your Bio I am amzed that you get such wonderful shots with just natural light and a flash, but like you I find that a simple one light set up makes the models more relaxed. Envious of you for finding so many beautiful women to photograph. Congrats to you and to them for the wonderful body of work that you have presented here. I look forward to seeing more.

Victor Lausas , December 25, 2005; 10:06 P.M.

Dear John, Your images are nothing short of exquisite! Something to aspire to for sure. I am indeed flattered that you rated one of my images so highly - thank you. Its great to have your comments for a hobbyist like me. Your portfolio is like a breathe of fresh air, its inspirational and one can keep viewing it forever. I consider it as one of the finest in the PN. My best Regards.

Antonio Marcone , January 26, 2006; 02:37 P.M.

just a thought

Dear John, I say this with the best of intentions. You seem to have quite a few nice photos in your portfolio, but also many that are nothing special (we all do), unfortunatly I feel the good ones just get lost in the sheer volume of photos. I find myself scrolling faster and faster as I go down. I think your portfolio would greatly benefit from a much narrower selection. And I wouldn't mind larger sizes either, some are really hard to admire when they're that small. JMHO. Regards /antonio

John Peri , January 27, 2006; 05:27 A.M.

Antonio, many thanks for this comment. I appreciate it and you are right of course. However there are several reasons why I post pictures of lesser quality. One is to receive criticism (which is very helpful) and not only praise, the second is to gain knowledge of what is widely acceptable or not. I have interestingly found that many of the photos that I like remain totally ignored, whereas I am at other times astonished to discover the commercial acceptance of some others. This is very interesting when vying for publication. That being said, I do remove large quantities from time to time. Regarding the posting of small images, this is to protect the models by reducing the chances of the photos being copied and circulated on the net out of context. The more vulnerable the picture, the smaller I post it. I understand the frustration that it causes but I really feel that I have no other alternative. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to point this out.

Enrique Torices , January 31, 2006; 01:51 P.M.

Mr. Peri, thanks to visit and comment some shots of my portfolio. I admire your work and respect the dedication that you apply to each frame. Congratulations!

Alan Katz , February 06, 2006; 11:00 A.M.

Jon, Your portfolio could be reduced by at least 75% and suffer no loss what so ever. Your themes are sorely repetitive, predictable informing us of absolutely nothing about you, your models or ourselves.

John Peri , February 07, 2006; 12:33 P.M.

Mr Katz, the time that you have spent on composing this tirade on the futility of my portfolio 3 weeks after joining PN appears to me a little strange, particularly since my work is of so little interest to you and there is so much more to discover on this site, if it is new to you. On reading it furthermore, I am not sure whether it is me that you are more critical of or what you refer to as my work's supposed popularity among other members, in which case they appear to be as much if not more accused than me. That being said, I do not regret having this negative assessment added to this page, though I do believe that you could have expressed your thoughts more effectively by adopting a less personal and offensive manne
