Hola Juan. Guillermo

To everyone!

I thanks everyone for all beautiful comments and rating on my pictures and portfolios. I have a great respect and admiration for all professional photographers on PN.

About me all I can say the I'd made tons of money in the past with my guitar, making plenty of money with my Real Estate profession but photography is my baby, it's so incredible how we can stop time to bring us later incredible joy and nostalgic moment. I consider myself a fun photographer as someone describe me "One who take picture of the good side of life" It's my hobby who thanks to all comments had made me improve as well as all of you a lot. As you notice below, a message was disapprove by me, because the person left me a big picture of himself advertising some website)

Thanks again,

Juan Santana

I viewed your portfolio and am delighted by the magnificent and colorful shots. By the way, I like your crop on my ' the hand and the flame '. The smartest move that didn't cross my mind was to boost the flame. Thanks very much for the nice manipulation. It has enhanced the appearance of the flame terrifically. I look forward to your comments on the rest of the shots in my portfolio. My gratitude.

Amie Frisch , December 19, 2006; 04:08 A.M.

Thanks for looking at my Picassa site! I use it because my quota for photos is pretty low here on PN -- which is making me take a more critical look at my photos to decide which ones I really want to post here.

Hello Juan, Just looked at several of your photo's. I like the beach/sea-photo's, also some of your people-photo's and of course the pets! You have something with buildings too, and know how to take interesting photo's of them. I like the spontanity in your pictures.(Thanks for answering; Santana used to be one of my favourite groups when i was younger, i had some of the records. I use to play classical guitar and violin, and just love music, one of my biggest hobby! Keep on playing the guitar, if you have such musical talents like you have. Greetings from Holland to you and your family; Ellen.)

Nice portfolio Juan, I like your landscapes the best though and thanks for you comment and rating on my photo

Jan Piller , February 28, 2007; 04:40 P.M.

Juan

You complain about the 3/3 raters - there is a rater on PN that is indiscrimately throwing around 1/1 and 2/2!!! She gave out more than 65 of them in one day! And PN does nothing about this. Her name is Alexandra Malia and even though I have asked for an explanation of her 3/3 rate on my photo - she refuses. There are several of us looking at other sites now. I know you are a great crusader about these 3/3 raters and many on PN are grateful for people like you.

Juan Santana , February 28, 2007; 04:53 P.M.

Jan, we should all go to her site and give back to her own medicine to her picture 1/1 and 2/2 and she'll get the message.

Jan Piller , February 28, 2007; 06:14 P.M.

Well I know it is petty

But actually I did. I had given her a 6/6 on one of her flowers so I went back and changed it to a 3/3. I think she is being a childish little mealy minded nobody that obviously thinks she is God's gift to photography - otherwise why would she be so mean spirited as to put down everybody else's images in such a horrible and insulting way? 65 in one day! And those weren't even 3/3's! They were only 1's and 2's! Can you imagine such an awful person. What a world we live in. I sure do like your new stuff!( I think my favorites are still your daughters wedding - what a bunch of lovely lovely images those are! what a beautiful girl)

Juan Santana , February 28, 2007; 11:32 P.M.

Jan, I checked her portfolio and is nothing so great to give anybody 3/3 or less without explanation. My next 3/3 joke is dedicated to her. Congrat and thanks for letting me know.

Juan Santana , March 01, 2007; 07:46 A.M.

Read what this Rat-er write to me andlets see what you think: Paweł & Grażyna Hachaj, February 24, 2007; 08:25 A.M.

Mr. Juan, don't you suppose that a 3/3 rating given to this very picture is a joke by itself?...

We are grateful for every rating given to our own photos, even anonymous 3/3, even invisible 1/1. We do not deny other people to do what they want as long as it is within the rules. We rate other photos (mostly anonymously) from 1/1 to 7/7, of course 3/3 happens too. We could feel outraged by your treating everyone who gives anonymous 3/3 as a mindless fool - but we are not outraged, we treat it all from a distance. It's all about fun, why to be angry? But if receiving anonymous ratings upsets you we promise to try to never give you any anonymous rating. But this won't help you much we are afraid.

By the way, if someone does not like to receive anonymous rating, he could use "critique only" option when submitting the picture to the critique forums. Oh, yeah, but it blocks all the possible 7/7-s too! Is they one of them?

Roy in't Hout , March 01, 2007; 08:20 A.M.

Hi Guys. Interesting dicussions about 3/3 etc. Why do you give it so much of your time and energy. The more you react to these ratings the greater the satisfaction, Secondly do not return evil for evil. Two wrongs don't make it right. Treat someone with kindness even if they don't, eventually they will respond to YOUR KINDNESS in the appropiate manner. There are a lot of people out there that are hurting. The only way they know how to deal with it is to hurt others. Lets show a little tolerance and compassion. Roy

Juan Santana , March 01, 2007; 08:42 A.M.

You are right about it but how can you show tolerance and compassion to and invisible force. I don't want to put a disclamer in every of my picture saying: Mr. 3/3er be nice to me, I love you.

Or they do this rating on purpuse or they are member of PN just like other fellow sugested

Jay Sturdevant , March 01, 2007; 09:03 A.M.

I once saw an image i admired, and wanted to see the artist's member page to view other images. This person is one of the top rated artists in a catagory, very accopmplished and much praised, with member page visits in the tens of thousands. To my astonishment the vast majority of ratings given by this person were 1's, almost nothing else. I was troubled by this, I think constructive criticism is essential for growth, but was this artist helping others improve by giving out the lowest rating possible to everyone? I made a comment on the portfolio that it seemed he didn't think much of other people's work and he not only scrubbed my comment but proceeded to give out about 40 high scores in two days. It is often said to be kids or jealous underachievers doing hit jobs here but not always, seems to me there are multiple incentives.

Juan, I like how you express yourself and i like controversy, keep up the creativity. Feel free to scrub this off your page, i didn't know where else to say it for now.

Lars Brorson Fich , March 01, 2007; 12:20 P.M.

Hi Juan. I, and a lot of others I think, is glad that someone start the dicussion about the 3/3 raters. I dont think it is worth the time to try to get revenge or something like that. The big problem, I think, is that the pictures are placed on the "Top photos" list acording to there rating. The reason to be on Photo.net fore many people is to see other photographers pictures, learn from the discusion and get comments about our own. The problem with the 3/3 raters means, that a lot of very good pictures is placed so low on the list, that they never get the atention they should. I think that the people that administrates Photo.net should reconice, that this is a threat to the hole idea of Photo.net. As far as I know there is a limit how many 6s and 7s you can give in one day. There should be a limit on 1s, 2s and 3s to. Re.Lars

Ken Dennis , March 02, 2007; 09:34 P.M.

Juan

I know this isn't quite as bad as all 3/3's but check out Lisa Dobbs, you will get a kick out of the ratings from this member!

BTW Nice portfolio!

Ken.

Caro Juan

Oh, my dear Juan,

I wanted to tell you,to say a word about those 3/3 raters, but it seems that your thread or your section was deleted by PN Team! sorry for that!

But I have to tell you that I have loocked at your portofolio and I must say that you have a lot of various type, colors and all kinds of photography and that you deserve all the rating you will receive and you are receiving and already receved, just like Me, cause NOW I see more clearly with those 3/3 that I have received during all previous year, and now I am proud to say that they have helped me to improve and become a more serious professional photographer WHO KnowS HER place in this enormous, wide and deep Internet Photography!

And again, EveryOne, all Hu-Wo_MAN on our Mother Earht HAS the Right to have another Opinion, and TASTE!!

That is the point in this life in 21st Century - We are all DIFFERENT, but We are ALL HUMANs -

Thank you dear Juan :) and go for IT!

I agree with you about 3/3, if you are going to give a 3/3 you should give a reason as to why. I even think that should go for 4's also. Tonight some one gave me a 6/3 but would not say why.

Gracias Juan !!!

It is a true taste to observe a work so defined, professional and creative. Portafolio is extraordinary and contains images that can be true documents. Mainly an excellent technique without leaving of side the artistic subject is perceived. The subjects are varied and we can be left to lengths minutes observing the photographies of this wonderful photographer. Let us follow the track a great artist with a as perceivable photographic eye as the fine one to sound of a bat. Congratulations and best regards. Thanks for your comments on my Portfolio Juan.

Juan Santana , May 06, 2007; 07:29 A.M.

Hi Nevzat

Thanks your comment on my portfolio, one of the great thing Of digital photography is that It give you the ability to feel like a Rembrandt or Magritte or any famous painter. it's great to manipulate the pixel and invent something out of nothing that have been in your mind, just using all photographs Try it.. one day you'll like it.

Thanks,

Juan Carlos Bretschneider , May 07, 2007; 09:01 P.M.

Portfolio

Juan, Thought I would return, glad i did, My, you have moved on, Your'Magritte' work certainly stops the traffic. I tried it many years ago and failed miserably. I was lucky to see and photograph many of his originals for a Pan Book on his work in thee 70's and still remain fascinated by his inventiveness,I'm glad to see some of it rubbed off on you.............John

Juan Santana , May 20, 2007; 06:30 P.M.

Thanks John, coming from such great artist as you, it honor me. Thanks, thanks thanks

John Warren , May 21, 2007; 07:16 A.M.

Echer & Magritte

Jaun, In the early 70's a friend of mine David Larkin decided to publish a series of 'Art' books for the UK publisher Pan Books. I was the photographer who was engaged to photograph the art/work.....Two books in that series were; one of Escher and the other of Magritte. I was lucky enough to photograph most of the originals of both artist's work and I can assure you the originals are breathtaking. It was a long time ago but maybe, an odd copy might be found on Amazon. They contained some of the best work of both artists. David Larkin was the Editor. John

Juan Santana , May 21, 2007; 12:40 P.M.

John, you are the luckiest photographer doing what you did. I never saw the originals, just in books, I was just searching Amazon to see if I can get it with no avail. If you can find a place were they sell it let me know but you'll have to sign it for me. if ever you need any of my picture for publication, I'll do it for crediting my name. In my musician time, I played opening act to Artist such as: Tina Turner, Santana, R.E.O. Speewagon, Joe Walsh and many other, I'm telling you this because some people will say WOW man! but to me is nothing now just Like you doing those great work and many other in photography which sound so simple but to me is fantastic! and all I can say to you is...

Congrats!

Great portfolio!

Ciao Juan, you have a great portfolio, by looking at your pictures I see you are a man of strong personality and very honest, I mean you refuse compromise, your message is clear with a lot of good sense of humor. In my opinion phtography in general is a trick, nothing to do with reality, perhaps even life is a trick made by our brain. Ciao Juan, wish you all the best. Francesco

Juan Santana , May 24, 2007; 05:54 P.M.

Mr. Suresh, I left on your portfolio IMHO what I think of these 2 pictures.

In America there's a saying that go like this "Stick and Stone can break my bones but word will never hurt me" Mr. Suresh, you did not hurt me and you don't have to say sorry also. I just want you to know that I had learned a lot here in PN just getting constructive criticism from master, like Ben G. Julio C. Patrick D and many other master in here. I have in my portfolio a gallery dedicated to 3/3 raters who I consider frustrated photographer when they rated without commenting of why they give this low rate when other have rated 6/6 or 7/7.

You can't tell a Engineer how to build a bridge unless you are better than him.

I can take any criticism with the only different that when anyone is commenting on my picture for good or bad, I usually visit his or her portfolio to see how good he or she is and if is better than me, then I'll use it to learn if it's worse than me then I will complain. (Remember what I said about the Engineer) I don't Give 3/3 to nobody because to everyone, his picture is a masterpiece but I can leave a little comment about improving such picture.

I hope you get my drift.

Thank you Francesco for your fine comment.

Hi Juan

Thanks for the note you left abour my comment in your image of the 3/3 raters. I am sure that you used the analogic as a language sarcastic tool pointed to the 3/3 raters or just I like to call them the anonimous raters because for me the problem is the same with 3/3 or 7/7 if anonimous. We all like to have feedback abour our work and learn with that beacuse there are no masters around even if some do think so and it's quite important when that feedback is given that we know whio is doing it, what kind of photographic background the person has because analogic or digital, photography is only one only the tools are different. I also started with photography when I was 15 years old with my father's exakta and Nikon F and developed my films in the dark room. Now I almost do it with digital reflex camera just because it's faster and cheaper to do it but I still use, not now that is broken, my analogic camera.

You do have a creative and artistic way of doing the images and it's good that you assume the photoshop and manipulation in this way of artistic expression and this is really honest from you as others just clean the photo, adding, cloning etc...and don't assume what they are doing. Anyway, congrats for your work. my very best regards.

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Ken
