Chris, my dear friend, good that you visited my portfolio page and left traces there!
I am delighted of what I saw here after I clicked on you! Yes, when I commented your desert picture I thought to myself: "I must come to this guy's portfolio, this surely isn't some exclusion picture, he must have a lot of those!". But, alas, I had to do something else and forgot that. Good that you wrote such a nice comment in my place and reminded me to do what I was planning to do!
What else can I say. You do everything I don't and can't!
Keep in touch my friend!

THANK YOU
Chris, Thank you so much for the encouraging words you left on my portfolio. I do live in an awesome place that allows me these beautiful scenes without leaving home. And I do enjoy taking photos alot. Most of my photos have electrical cabels in them that I have to crop out, but thats the East Coast for you. I enjoy manipulating the photos as much as I do taking them. I find myself improving so much with every day. I started this portfolio on here about a month ago and started submitting photos for reviews on other sites about two or three months ago and in just that little bit of time I have improved so much, but still have a long way to go. With each day, I try to learn something new, even if it's relearning something. LOL And with each day I see a different improvement. One of these days I will put alllll of them together and have a perfect photo..LOL!
I thank you ever so much again, for your help, comments, encouragement and kind words. You are awesome and I will look forward to you checking up on me. =)
Happy Snapping!

Chris,
I am so glad that you took the time to comment and rate my photos as by doing this you brought me to your portfolio and what a great one!!! You have a very good eye for color and for that which looks so good in color. I absolutely love the Joshua Tree and Alpine Butte sections, but I also like the Early Fall Storm and oh yes, of course the black and white which is what I am so partial to. Keep up the good work. I will be back to revisit.

Chris--Congratulations on a truly fine portfolio! Glad to see those Smokies photos in with Joshua Tree & Arches & Yosemite. Would love to have shown you some of the hidden treasures of the Smokies area (most of your shots seem to have come from the Cades Cove area, beautiful but heavily visited and photographed). The Cataloochee area of the Smokies is a bit more remote and less traveled, but wonderful with old buildings including a one-room schoolhouse and a nice old church. So--if you're ever in the area again, let me know--I'd enjoy a visit. Thoroughly enjoyed your portfolio.

Hi Chris!
First to thank you for time you spend on watching my photos and comments on them. I really appreciate that, especially that it comes from someone who has such great portfolio like you do and who is involved in photography long time like you are. I see that you take time to give comments to many photos, and your comments are encouraging and constructive. If we could only have more people here on photo.net like you are.
I was also glad when I saw that we have same camera with same lenses, although i don't have any filters, but thanks to you i know which one to buy. For beginner like I am your portfolio is great to learn how to compose photography and which lenses to use. Thank you very much on your effort. Stay well, Dejan

Water works
Hi Chris. You are welcome. Funny thing about waterworks/sector! I just posted a bunch of pics of water works in the State of Guanajuato, some of them from the colonial era. I want to document the aesthetical part of such works. It seems that at least in this part of the world, not much thought is given to aesthetics, privileging only utilitarian aspects, and why not both? Anyway, that is a discussion to be had. Please visit my portfolio and critique the pictures I mentioned. I am very interested in yopur opinion. Regards!

Boojum tree
Hi Chris. Yes, the tree is a Boojum tree, it lives in Baja California and a small part of Sonora. The top of the tree varies but the trunk is always the same. I have posted several Baja California pics in my portfolio where you can see the different variants. There is one where you can get a sense of the scale, as there is someone standing next to one. This one http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5240877 is a general view with them ncluded. BTW, if you live in Southern Cal, the Valle de los Cirios (Valley of the Boojum trees) is about 6 hours south of the border. The town, if you can call it that, is Catavina. Thanks for your comments! I spent the morning wandering around the alabama hills not so long ago, but i couldn't manage to achieve the same harmony between the foreground and Mt Whitney as you did. I like the black and white series, and the shots of the alabama hills.Sunset at Zuma point is very subtle and I love the simple composition of the wildflowers shots.

Chris, thank you for your lovely comment regarding "Tiny Little Blue Bird..." He caught me by surpise as I looked up and saw him zipping around, almost like a hummingbird. Thanks for your comment on my Other worlds pic - I love your desert shots. But Honestly, the Doggie shots are my favorites! I love dogs and any shot of a dog is 7/7!! HEAVEN'S DOGGIE-DOOR by Anonymous (not sure if putting poetry on this site is acceptable - please delete it if you like)It was sent to me when my dear Apple died.
My best friend closed her eyes last night,
As her head was in my hand.
The Doctors said she was in pain,
And it was hard for her to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled her in my arms.
Were of her younger, doggie years,
And OH...her many charms.
Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart that?s filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our doggies,
He's installed a 'doggie-door"!

thx once again for your encouraging words! i'm taking a studio lighting class at my local college and borrowed the studio to try my hand at nudes. i've learned that i don't much like studio work. to me photography is very much a giant treasure hunt. its searching for that great shot. even if you miss the shot its ok if you got to see something cool that you can strive to capture next time around. but in the studio all the surprise is taken away. tho i have always been interested in trying nudes and couldn't let the chance go by, i have definitely learned something about myself and my photography.

Hi Chris!
In answer to your questions of how to track the butterflies - they're in a conservatory where they raise them from the pupas (sp?) They are then let free in the conservatory - maybe about 10,000 square feet or more. They are tracked within that environment. People like me with cameras may get glimpses of them and they can then see the lifespans, what plants they're landing on, etc etc.

Chris--Thank you for your comments and kind words on my portfolio--I appreciate you making a visit and leaving some thoughts! I reviewed a couple of your recent critique requests and also took a stroll through your portfolio and must say that I'm thoroughly impressed. You have a talent for shooting a very wide range of subjects. I love the variety and you have many, many great shots (so many that I couldn't even pick a top 5, much less favorite shot). To me, when I view your shots I feel your strongest asset and greatest talent as a photographer is in your compositions. This in my opinion is the best talent to have because I feel like it is the least "teachable" of the skills necessary to take great pictures. Even when the subject wasn't "my cup of tea" the image still held my attention because your compositions were spectacular! I can't say there were any images where I really think you missed out because of where you pointed the camera. I almost always have a comment about zooming in or out, moving the camera higher or lower, putting different things in another part of the photo but I didn't get any of these burning urges with your shots. I have to be honest in saying that I looked at them and was like "Wow, how did he place everything so perfectly?!?! I'm not sure if I were at that place I could have come up with the same composition!" I can't say enough about how good the compositions were--and, it was consistent throughout your portfolio regardless of the location or subject. In summary, I have really enjoying viewing your work and you have taught me a lot about composition just by seeing how you use your talent. I will definitely be back to view your portfolio on a regular basis and hope you will visit mine again as well, if you have a spare minute. Keep up the GREAT work!

Hi Chris,
I've been absent for awhile..........broke and dislocated my clavicle, but Sweetpea and I are on the mend. I always enjoy going through your portfolio, very nostalgic for me. At one time or another, I've crawled through all the same places. If you and your wife are ever in the Los Angeles neighborhood, let me know. I have some great places I think you'd enjoy photographing.

Thanks for your comments on my "Little River 1" photo. I've always loved that little river and always make it a point to swing through when I am in the area (now live in northern VA) and had a particularly good day when I was there a few weeks back. :)
I appreciated the invitation to your portfolio and I must say I am very very impressed. Your landscapes are absolutely suberb! The colors and saturation are spot on and the exposures and compositions are flawless. I'm looking forward to keeping my eye on you. :)

Hey Chris,
What a collection you have. I am impressed so much by your black and white studies. They are standout stuff. You have a great inclination for order in your images, great compositional practices. I have been shooting North Carolina over the years and it is an exceptional place for photography, however, I doubt we will bump into each other in the Smoky Mountains because I have recently moved to Bakersfield, CA. Maybe you will spot me at Badwater catching the sunrise on Telescope peak. I am excited about the new possibilities. It is a different world out here. Thanks for our comments. I will make sure to visit from time to time to catch up on your newer offerings. All the best,

Chris, I would at some point in time be interested in making a few sojourns into the SoCal wilderness along with another photo nut. My wife as well has little interest in being out among the elements. It probably would not be until the end of summer, though, as we are just getting settled in. I would welcome an E-mail or a phone call to get acquainted in the mean time. You can reach me at markag66@yahoo.com or call 919-744-1523 during the day. I will look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for taking the time to comment on one of my pictures. I live on Vancouver Island, there are very few opportunities for train/track shots. This trestle is an exception. Thanks for your sweet words regarding Josie. Yes, she is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and she's the most amazing little dog I've ever had. SMART beyond belief and a joy to have and love. Hey Chris,
Sounds like you're off to a great spot. I'm home for a bit working with a new puppy. Sweetpea's lifemate Annie, was intentionally poisoned a few months back. I took it hard and so did Sweetpea. Eventually her depression was the impetus for the new puppy. This is a challenging puppy, but Sweetpea is almost her old self again, so it's well worth the effort.
You're portfolio is looking great! I love looking through your images, and I'm looking forward to seeing some new ones when you return.

Chris: Bear Mountain is a very well known 3000 ft.mountain right along the hudson river, about 30 miles north of New york City. My photo was taken at the very top of the mountain, where many people go, to admire the incredible views of the Hudson river and surrounding valleys, 3000 ft. below. I have many shots of these magnificent views, but they always come out hazy, so I dont use them.

Looks like you had a good weekend too! Like your new stuff out in Joshua Tree. You stay in 29 Palms? I'm going to add more from my fishing/photo trip on Lake Mead this weekend. Just put Joshua Tree on my list of places I gotta shoot!..RAY

Hi Chris,
I just got back into town and had a chance to view your images from both Joshua Tree, North Carolina and Tennesee and as usual you have some very awesome shots. I really like the one with the bridge leading up to the shack. The color and detail and the composition are extroardinary. With regards to your shots from Joshua Tree, I am always impressed when someone can take a commonly shot subject and present it in a unique and appealing image. You have maanged to do so in many of your shots and I am greatly impressed. I hope all is wel and you are enjoying your travels. Best wishes! Katherine

Thank You
I want to thank you again for all of your flattering comments;especially your recent comment about my newly "folderized" portfolio. You have been a tremendous source of inspiration for me. Those 3/3 ratings really aggrivate me, and kind comments like yours lift me back up. You,too, are a very talented photographer; and your portfolio shows not only a very impressive talent for creating beautiful images; but also a broad range of skills and subject matter.
More importantly, you seem to be not only a good photographer, but also a really nice person. If I ever get out to SoCal I'll definitely look you up. In the meantime, HAPPY SHOOTING! Talk to you soon... Andy Daspin

Hey Chris, I am humbled by your praise of my work. I look through your portfolio and don't see any klinkers or marginal floaters at all. each piece is solid as a rock. pun intended. You have been to some places that I would love to visit. My "Out West" experiences were limited to time spent in the Marine Corps at 29 Palms Cali. A miserable desolate bombing range. Anyway, I too will enjoy soaking in your work like a fine wine, I don't want to guzzle. cheers my friend.

Chris: Re: your comment on my waterfull photo. I didnt want the waterfall to fill the picture (I do already have some shots like that in my portfolio) For this shot, I wanted to capture the whole scene, with the rocks and shallow river leading up to the waterfall in the distance. I generally compose shots in my camera the way I want them to be. I therefore do very very little cropping afterward. This shot came out just like I had intended. Your comments, however, are perfectly legitimate, and noteworthy: and I truly appreciate your taking the time and interest to comment. And by the way, I dont mind at all when you leave contructive criticism or suggestions. You always do it in a very respectfull, intelligent, thoughtfull, and diplomatic way, and I always appreciate such comments. Thanks very much.. your buddy, Andy

Thanks for the comments and wonderful rating.
I've opened up my first photography studio and between my full time job and the studio I've been too busy to even sit down and enjoy some time on photo.net like I use to do.

Hello Friend!
Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.
I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.
Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Great portfolio Chris! You have such a beautiful collection here that it is difficult for me to pick out and comment on a favorite. The moving rock shots were very interesting. (National Geo. just published an article about the moving rocks...they could have used some of your shots!) I liked all of your shots from the Smokies (one of my favorite places) and your desert black and white photographs were outstanding. Keep up the good work and I'll look forward to your future posts.

Hey Chris...
It's always so good to hear from you. I wish I could just hop on a plane and tag along with you sometime when you head out to Death Valley. I'm so intrigued with the moving rock!!!!!!!! Maybe someday I'll make it there and see it for myself and get the same goosebumps I got when I saw your images.
Thanks for the lovely comments regarding my recent endeavors. The studio just kind of feel into my lap. A house that had been converted into office space had this one little 10x15 room with a backdoor that led out to the backyard. They said I could do whatever I wanted to the backyard to help with my photography, so I did a little landscaping and now have an outdoor area as well to capture images. Portraits are the hardest thing I've had to deal with in respect to photography. I'm having to be the photography and model so I can perfect my eye when it comes to light and such. I'll get there, I know. I don't give up until I master something so this silly little thing called light won't get the best of me! LOL
Thanks again for the comment, it made me smile.

Thanks for asking about her. I need to post some recent images of her.

Chris,
Yeah, I'm partially back, with some limits this time, absolutely no ratings possible on my pictures, they simply infuriate me as I would find correct for someone to identify himself and justify his rating with arguments when he downrates you. It's ok to give negative comments, but it must be done in a creative way, no?
So what the heck, after discussing skies and abstracts with other people, I posted some to show what I meant. And I posted some weird ones. Let's see what happens. Always fun exchanging with you.

Well now I'm back to thanking you for sharing your wonderful artistic talents with all of us at PN. It is so hard to just pick one fave photo from each folder in your portfolio since they are all so good and also knowing that you put so much (in person) creative time into each one as it shows, but time permits me to be a little briefer then I would like. Though I did look at them all. I'm in awe of your work Chris and you and your art are such an inspiration to me so please keep it up so I can see more in the future. Good day to you!

Chris--thanks for the comments. I put my name on them for just that reason. You never know what someone might be able to use it for on the internet. Besides, even if someone just wanted to put it on their desktop at least the viewer would have my name there.
As for the numerous night shots, I get off work around 4:30 and the sun sets at 4:36, so...you can see why I've begun to experiment with nighttime shooting. Take care!

Chris
Thanks for looking at my (small) portfolio on PN and your comments are appreciated. I have been very fortunate to have some talented students who have continued to live their dreams out as professional photographers. I believe my gift has been to inspire kids to see a bigger world out there and to aspire to reach their potential in whatever they choose to do. Education isn't always about test results... passion, compassion, intellectual curiosity, artistic vision, and creative expression are just a few of the "results" I hope my students discovered in their journey in photography. No teacher will every be remembered for some lectures they gave. Students will fondly remember a teacher because of the inspirational fire they built in their heart, mind, and soul. A teacher's sincere personal reassurance about the tremendous potential in every student is the fuel that feeds that intellectual, spiritual, and emotional fire to live, learn, and interact uninhibited by fears of failure and inadequacy. I hope that will be my legacy

Man, you get around! I envy your travels as much as your fine and diverse portfolio. Each series and shot seems to reflect its location as much as it reflects you, so Death Valley looks like a different photographer than downtown L.A., or Carolina or New Mexico. Emotional photos that show a connection to place. I'll keep returning for more as you don't show any sign of slowing down.

Thanks again Chris for stopping in to my port, can't wait to see some shots from that new glass, I've been looking into getting wider myself, hard to do with that 2x crop factor of the 3/4 lenses (sucks for wide, but great for long) I just got a Spyder 2 express for my LCD and realized how washed out a lot of my images have been appearing to you guys, so now I'll go through my port and make some corrections, anyway, can't wait to see some new wides so hurry up and get out there LOL

I've already commented on your portfolio before, and the new additions are the best work yet, especially "Landscape in Monochrome" galleries.
What I wanted to observe here is a simple ratio: 3650/190. As of this writing, that's the number of comments you've left on other people's photos versus the number of critique requests you've posted. I thought I had a pretty good ratio at slightly better than 1:1, but yours is approaching 20:1! Throw in the 175 gallery comments, and you clear even that mark.
So, in addition to singing the praises of your own work, a shout out for your generosity with me and others here on PN. You're a gentleman and a scholar, sir, and a credit to the site.

What a crime ...
... all the times I've been to your site and never commented on the portfolio? Sorry, Chris, guess you keep me too busy looking at the shots themselves. Anyway, you know how much I admire your work, some of the best desert work around. I have gone to Joshua Tree, Mono Lake and so many other places to shoot in the past, but never had the "touch" to get something really worthwhile. You've got that touch, and it shows in all of your shots. Maybe it is just something that moves you, and your response is at a deeper level and you tap into that with your photography. Whatever it is, it works. Thanks.

Thank you so much for your comment on my image "A Bare Tree..." I was pleased with the results as it was not a conversion. I have taken up the challenge of film photography and this was one of my many efforts. I really enjoy the whole aspect of film and can't wait to have subject material as you do in Death Valley.
Hey, by the way, I'm being taken to Las Vegas for my 50th birthday March 27th - March 30th. How far is Death Valley from Las Vegas? The wheels in my head are turning for sure.

Hi Chris
Thanks for taking a look at my photos. I thought I critiqued one of your photos earlier, but now I'm not sure I finalized it because I can't find it. I'm new to photo.net and still trying to figure out how to negotiate all the features of this website. But I wanted to say how much I love your work! It's really amazing to see the desert pictures in black and white....it gives me ideas for our trip to the southwest in 3 weeks. And it's really cool to see your pictures of the moving rocks.....that's the strangest phenomenon. My husband and I are going out to take photos of the spring bloom.....Death Valley, Joshua Tree for sure, and then perhaps Valley of Fire and/or Mohave, depending on how the time goes. You have provided us with inspiration, and I'll look forward to seeing more of your photos. Thanks!

First of all, I'm amazed to see sand dunes in Mojave, I guess you have to go far from freeway line to find it :)) Great images! Although I still can't figure out how those stones were moving :), but probably it's better to leave it as another mistery of life.

Beautiful Work Here
Chris, your portfolio is a combination of sheer delight and artistry! I'm a big fan of monochrome/B&W images and you have some GORGEOUS ones here! But I'm equally impressed with your color work as well. You have a definite eye for desert beauty!
Plus, I wanted to stop by and say "thank you" for all the warm comments and encouragement you leave not only on some of my images but for the ones you leave on so many others' work. I know Ray Banfield, for one, must be extremely appreciative, as his work just keeps getting better and better! I can't help but to think that you are a positive influence there! Hi Chris!
Thanks for the comments on some of my "newbie" pictures. Led me here to totally enjoy the incredible photos you have. Being a fan of color vs B&W, viewing your pictures has given me a new perspective on just how much "color" there is to basic B&W photos. Ansell Adams has made a fortune at it. Your desert shots and landscapes inspire me to do better. Happy (camera) hunting! janen

Hi Chris,... I want to thank you for your comment on my photo in Asheville N.C.
It was taken about 4 years ago, but i didn't get there until about a week or two after the peak colors. I have looked at your portfolio ,and i love monochrome in the right situation, which i think you have done very well. Hey Chris,
Thanks for commenting on my "Midnight Sun" images. There really was something magical and primal, as you mentioned, about the whole region. Now I need to go back and capture everything digitally, since these were all done on film, and I feel my "vision" is different now.
Unfortunately, the polar bears have retreated to the polar ice by this time (June). There was a sighting of a female with a half-grown cub on land, but I was not so fortunate as to be present. The belugas were cool, though!
Cheers, Nancy

Thanks, Chris, for the great comment! For the geologist in you, this was identified to me as "puddingstone" and is located in the fishing village of Blue Rocks (aptly named, no?), near Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. However, it doesn't look like the examples I see on the 'net. What do you think? (there are more examples in my"Intimate Landscapes" folio)
P.S. Regarding the softness--you are correct, it is soft. I'm guilty of not using my tripod, and the conditions really called for it. It was evening, very overcast, and rainy. Needless to say, I'm quite pleased you like it anyway!
Cheers, Nancy

Chris...
Thank you so much for those wonderfully encouraging words! I was so scared it was going to somehow change how other photographers saw me and I didn't want that to happen, however, I'm exploring this new area of photography and I needed feedback. I wanted models to help me but they were not willing to do this hours on end until I worked out my vision. Plus, Im free and won't complain about the work.

Chris: I haven't visited your gallery in quite awhile, so I thought I would stop by. I must say, I was quite surprised! Looks like you've done a major revamping. Alot of the old shots are gone ( at least according to my memory), and you have tons of new stuff. I must say, I am very impressed with your new photos!. Excellent work. I especially like your "Landscapes in Monochrome' series. Some of those shots are extraordinary! Have you ever sold your work at shows or galleries? If not, you should try it. Anyway, your portfolio looks really great.

Somebody has been busy! How did you do this so fast? The reorganization is really successful, save for one thing I'll email you about. I actually thought your previous portfolio was better organized than most, but this is an improvement. Shuffling things around a little brings different images to the fore, which is nice. I promise I'll take another close look at your entire portfolio in the near future. It's very impressive, Chris!

Very nice changes to your portfolio. I have always loved your B&W photos. My favorites are those of Death Valley. Absolutely stunning! Your photo "A Merced Morning" is breathtaking. I guess this is what Ansel Adams meant when he said "Yosemite Valley, to me, is always a sunrise, a glitter of green and golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space."
Thank you, for sharing the beauty.

Thanks so much for your kind words on my picture/portfolio.....I'm glad your comments brought me to such an inspiring portfolio. Your landscapes are breath taking.....I have only made one quick drive through the deserts out there...with little time to take side roads and explore....your portfolio makes me want to pack up a car and drive back out west. (if only gas was affordable......) I especially enjoyed your series of the mystrerious moving rock. You have a great eye and a refreshing perspective, and I am flattered that such a talented photographer had such nice words to say about my portfolio. Thanks for taking the time to critique..... I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Howth...Don't get me started!
Dia dhuit and thanks Chris for taking the time to comment on my Dun Hill photo......... I know well what you mean .........the best part of it is now that I am retired, I can walk my two springer spaniels in this little paradise every single day. In fact today, Monday I cycled out to the local fishing village of Howth, about 20 mins easy cycling, rode up and down the three piers, stopping to view the resident seals in the Harbour, had a scone and a frothy coffee(can't spell Cappachino) and cycled home. After lunch I took the dogs out to Howth and walked up to Dun Hill (see photo) and back to the village for another Cappachino( coffee) outdoors this time and decided to give them an extra bit of exercise, so took them past the working harbour, past the marina , and up and down the East Pier which was designed by Captain Bligh of ' The Bounty' fame. His house is still in the village. It's really hard work but somebody has to do it! Anyroads, while I was sitting having my second coffuchino an American couple were looking at the dogs and they told me, to my surprise, they were enjoying the Irish Summer Weather! They said it's too darned hot in Sacramento at this time of year! Were of course were in the middle of a heat wave........meaning it hadn't rained in the previous four hours (I kid you not). SLAN....FRANK
p.s. I'm a bit pushed for time at the moment but I will get back soon to view you 'folio...It looks great at even a guick glance. frank.

My Dear Friend Chris...
Your kind and sweet words really touched me as I read them this morning! I too think of you as a friend. In fact, when I'm talking to others about your photograhy I always refer to you as my friend Chris in Southern California who captures the most amazing images. I can't tell you how much it meant to see your face!
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement on my self portrait work. The only reason it has to be me is it seems I'm the only one that knows what it is I'm trying to capture. It's not so much a look I'm trying to get, it's an emotion that can not be manufactured, it has to come from within and then it's tangible and can be captured.
Words such as yours give me the courage to keep moving forward with this series.
Thanks so much Chris and I'll give sweet little Josie a wink and tell her it's from you.

Hi Chris...From your photo you look like a safari man, an old type explorer. This really shows in your work, you have photographed some very isolated spots with great detail and not only with your camera but also with your pen. You do excel in these lonely distant corners, namely..Deserts, Prairies, Mountains and Forests. Hearty congratulations for all your work so far achieved, I can imagine that you have worked hard for nearly every "trekked for" photo that you have taken. Good luck for the future....Many Regards..Keith

Hi Chris
Thanks for the input on the Farm of the Palouse picture. Your comment was dead on. I couldn't get any more out of the right because of a house that didn't fit the scene and it was crack of dawn so the blue sky was out. Acrually I think I got the true colors reasonable close. Thanks as always for your insight, always appretiated and enjoyed. Hope your well down there in the Golden State. Starting to feel like fall here. Boy, I'm not ready to do it over after the winter from hell we had last year. Be good-Jim

Chris,
one spot I'd love to go shoot pictures too
I love your portfolio. It's a joy to look at. You have the eye of a true artist and lover of nature. It's fun because you love your subject and it shows. Your compositions and the way you frame colors and patterns or achitectural or car lines is close to that of profesionals on occasions. It's not a common talent in my opinion. The surprise for me this time is the picture attached above. I think it's one of my favorite with the sunset I commented on earlier. The desert picture micro landscape or micro something VI is very good too.

Hey Chris...
Thanks for all the encouraging words! Yes, I'm safe and sound. We finally got our power restored after six days. I was doing okay physically, but emotionally I was beginning to loose ground. Thank goodness I had photography to give me something to focus on we it all got to be too much to think about. Josie and LuLu did just fine. In fact, sweet little Josie helped with the cleanup. I was picking up limbs and she was right there grabbing them and trying to help. True, she wanted to turn it into a game of fetch but that's Josie's style!

Thought I'd drop by the gallery to say thanks for your visit, comments, & general encouraging words on my Pueblos presentation. Glad you liked it. That's an area I'd like to see get a little more love, while there's still time to preserve it.
The new stuff you have here -- California coast, the Mojave, the intimate landscapes -- is stunning. You've got a thoroughly classical bent in your black and white work: full tonal range with nothing blocked or blown out, and without excessive contrast. Old school, masterful, and very compelling. I'd love to see some of it on traditional, selenium-toned fiber prints.

Chris,
Your portfolio is one of the places I go to expand how I see and how to compose. In your work single subjects in a scene serve as not just ambiance, but beings that are the place and scene, and could not exist anywhere else -- the synergistic relation between container and content. Your use of light brings this synergy to the viewer both subtle and direct.
Thank you for looking at my stuff and your generous reviews.
Good luck in the coming year.

Thank you for your recent comments on my portfolio. I always appreciate your encouraging words. Your photos have always inspired me to get out more and just explore all the possibilities. I am sure you will capture some wonderful shots when you visit here. Although the San Xavier Mission still has the scaffolding up on the left side of the church, there are so many other opportunities around there. I want to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year.

I received your invitation on facebook. I read all the questions and answers about who you are, what you like and the everyday life you experience riding the train and enjoying conversations with strangers or looking at the scenery and i happened to envy your life style . You have a blessed life Chris. To me...This is the AMERICAN WAY in the way it is supposed to be. Lots of people in America do not understand tjhat they have been cheated and they still root for a way I do not get Anyway, I am way wirth you on political isssues and that makes me love you (I am not gay, don't worry) Your pictures have the seed and potential. Since the time you offered me to come and visit and take a photo adventure in your side of your woods. This is when you became my friend because you trust strangers like me. I am OK so don't worry a bit! I do worry abhout the stupids for tehy are everywhere but than kheaven they cannot follow a conversation far enough so we are safe now....And I have nothing to say...this is something we need to work on...no reactivity, just being normal...it's not that easy. I am your friend.

Chris - The mission B&W's remind me of Ansel's architectural images. Love the contrasty images. You have a real diversification of images. Well done, hombre!
Not sure if that is the right use of the word, but it seemed to fit the southwest!

Hello Chris, many thanks for your kind comments on my desert images. I see we share a common love of such places. I've just returned from a 4-week journey to central Australia, with most of this time spent in the Simpson Desert and various places along the Oodnadatta Track and the old Ghan Railway. Lots of opportunities for those who like photographing desert landscapes and sand-blasted ruins. Best wishes, Margo.

Hey Chris, Thanks for the kind words about my work... Ansel huh? He did get pretty contrasty towards the end, he did... I've been playing with 'Silver Efex Pro', a p shop plugin. A b/w converter that mimics the look of many traditional films and does a ton of more stuff too. I think I'm falling in love with it, I am. It's spendy but worth it in my mind... Must be because I poped for it... If you can prove you are some kinda academic, student or staf, you can find it through google for about 1/2 price. You can try it for 15 days for free also... If you don't already use it, check it out, I know you'll like it... Cheers, Raymond

Chris, I love the greens in your Forests folder. The Racetrack and Badwater are favorites too. I'll be going to Death Valley in March 2010 to try and get something from those places. I'm really happy I came across your Portfolio Chris!
Not only because your pictures are really fantastic but also because they brought me several years back in time when photography started for me: a lottery ticket offered me my first flight abroad and lead me to the wonderful places we can see in your portfolio such as Yosemite, Joshua tree park, death valley etc.
At that time I had a little snap shot automatic camera but the pictures I brought back where such a disappointment... I couldn't share with my relatives and friends the wonderful spectacle that the area you're living in offered to my eyes. That's when I decided, that this wouldn't happen a second time and started investigating the world of photography.
Your pictures are exactly the kind of scenes I wanted to share with my friends. This was maybe a naive thought, but at that time I was really frustrated and disappointed of my non-existing photographic skill.
Looking at your portfolio I had the feeling of being back in the US in the middle of this breath taking nature, back in the trip that marked the beginning of my journey in the world of photography!
May the light be with you Chris!
Best regards,
Jan
