I looked through your portfolio. You have a very good eye and some great images. I like your black and white folder. Excellent lighting. Hope to see more, and I'm sure we'll visit again.

A portfolio full of very nice pictures, composition and capture. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Doeke Koedijk , February 06, 2006; 05:11 A.M.

I liked the "Chinese Acupuncture Factory" a lot. I don't know if it was your (or the acupuncture doll factory's) intention but I feel it has a clear link to Emperor Qin's Army. The rest of your photos are just as spectacular. Stunning use of colors and composition. You're not shy of using PS and your honnest about it, which I find a very good thing. All in all, a GREAT portfolio. One that will stay with me and one that is worth many more future visits. Thanks for showing and keep up the good work!

Dexter Dee Dee , February 06, 2006; 06:51 A.M.

Ciao Paul!

Thank you very much for your kind comments on my portfolio and for your interest. I am the one that is flattered. I had the opportunity to view your portfolio and it truly reflects not only technical skills that I, after 30+ years of photography I am still learning, but an artistry that reflects truly love for the people and the events that you portray. I will continue to follow your portfolio and your work and I hope that my work continues to keep your interest.

Thank you again, Marco.

Rui Costa , February 08, 2006; 03:26 P.M.

Excellent Portfolio

Hi Paul. I couldn't let pass the oportunity to leave a few words on your portfolio. It's a very evolved and technicaly superior portfolio and a vey big source of inspiration and information for my attempts on photography. As beginner/amateur, this is the kind of work that I'm always looking on PN so I can learn a little more. Thank you for sharing your work.

Mike Gal , February 10, 2006; 10:02 P.M.

Terrific style, your work shows you to be one of the Best!

Paul Chepikian , February 17, 2006; 07:15 A.M.

Thanks, Steve!

I wanted to take a moment and clarify as to why I removed a certain comment. It was a very lovely statement albeit from an old high school friend who spoke glowingly of my work. Well, okay, it was a bit too glowingly! Thanks, Steve! But I felt it wouldn't be right for me to leave that one on here. But please know that I know you were sincere, meant well and I appreciate it very much.

Wendy de Kok , February 22, 2006; 09:35 A.M.

Paula Traphagen , February 28, 2006; 09:01 P.M.

Paul, Thanks so much for your comment on my portfolio. It is abit intimidating to be a rookie on this site...but your encouraging words are very much appreciated. Your photographs are VERY nice. I had fun looking through them..such wonderful variety...it's hard to pick a favorite..but I did really like the one with your face on the street sign! I also enjoyed reading your bio...very well written! I would have loved to grow up on "Traphagen Road"...I do collect Traphagen memorabilia...I think I do have some stuff from New Jersey! I live in Minnesota..but our family did come from the NY. Again...thanks so much for your encouraging comments. It's people like you that make me want to learn more.

Kent B , March 02, 2006; 09:42 A.M.

Great collection. You have a keen eye for design elevating the most mundane subjects to high art. Love the water meter covers. I've been shooting them for 9 years but have nothing that compare to yours.

So many names

Hi Paul,

I just commented on a photo from you and I already had a small bell ringing when I read your name. After some absence, you (with your great art) again atracted me to your execellent portfolio. It's a small world but your new photos again show just how big it is.

Now I WILL remember your name Frank ...... lol :) (couldn't resist)

Emmanuel Enyinwa , May 26, 2006; 01:21 A.M.

You, my friend, have TALENT. Your color work is outstanding. And, I especially love the abstract work and the first responder images.

Paul Chepikian , May 28, 2006; 03:28 A.M.

Thank you, Emmanuel: It's those wonderful comments and the support I find here at PhotoNet that gives me the energy I need to keep shooting and striving to improve my abilities. There is no lack of talent at this site. I feel honored to be part of it all. Once again, thank you.

Jayme Hall - Bardstown, KY , May 31, 2006; 07:34 A.M.

Paul

You have a very interestingly diverse portfolio. I plan on returning to enjoy more when I have a little more time, hi ho, hi ho, off to work I go :) Anyway, some really interesting, beautiful & extremely creative images. Thanks for sharing :)

Paul Chepikian , May 31, 2006; 07:37 A.M.

Thanks, Jayme: What's scary is my mind works pretty much the way this portfolio looks. There is no rhyme or reason, I am like the little boy who sees the shiny object and drops whatever he's doing and runs over to it. A blessing and a curse. Thanks for the kind words, always inspired by kind thoughts and the work of others. Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to sleep I go...

Bradd Shore , May 31, 2006; 07:55 A.M.

Great Eye for Patterns

Paul-- This is a very impressive and instructive portfolio. You have a great eye that is at once very concrete and yet has a distinct feel for abstract patterns in the apparently ordinary corners of life. The soul of good photography. It was a pleasre to look these over. I'll be coming back again and again to stury these, Bradd

Paul Chepikian , May 31, 2006; 05:12 P.M.

Thank you so very much, Bradd. I wish I could say I didn't really care what people think, but... For my work to touch others or, dare I say, even inspire others is something that I strive for. PhotoNet is very intimidating and inspiring, there are plenty of very good artists on these pages. I am glad to be a small part of it. Thanks for the encouraging and kind words.

Laurent Lacoste , May 31, 2006; 05:13 P.M.

Paul, I have been returning to your portfolio over the last few days, and wanted to tell you how much I have been impressed by the quality and great versatility of your art as a photographer. I'll keep returning to marvel at the great sense of composition and colors of a master. I have also been interested in reading your biography which tells so brilliantly about the life of an artist.

Regards,

Laurent.

Graham Boyd , June 01, 2006; 01:07 P.M.

Paul, your entire portfolio is simply outstanding, but I want to make special mention of your recent shots from NYC since you are working on them right now. They are terrific. I grew up very near the city and visited it many times as a kid. Your shots are capturing for me the awe, the threat, and the magnificent beauty of that town. The brooding emotional undercurrent is all there. Great stuff and thanks for sharing it.

Seven Stuartson , June 08, 2006; 11:24 A.M.

Hi Paul

Fabulous variety, a most enjoyable trip. I especially like the dynamism of the First Responder images, and your ability to find beauty in things so simple as the subjects of your Textures folder. Thanks for the view through your lens. Cheers, Seven.

pascale riches , June 11, 2006; 03:21 P.M.

Thank you so much!!!

Thank you for taking time to comment some of my pictures and portfolio. It can be very intimidating for me to show my pictures, but also a great opportunity to learn from poeple like you. I will work on some pictures... and remember your advice. Thank you so much!!! I really do like your portfolio, it is so diversified. love the details, architecture... I will keep checking to see more pictures from you. Regards. Pascale

Richard Barnard , June 13, 2006; 02:35 P.M.

Rejith Warrier , July 03, 2006; 07:49 A.M.

Very nice collection there, friend Paul .. Like your style and your colours ... Nice work .. Cheers from Uppsala, Sweden ..

Todd Kowalski , July 09, 2006; 02:36 P.M.

WOW

Paul, I came upon your portfolio by way of comments you made on one of Kent B's images, and to say the least I hold you right up there as one of my favorite photographers on this site. I must say that you work shows the same exemplary characteristics in making the otherwise ordinary or hardly, if ever noticed things, into images of fine art. You have quite a style and possess a wonderful talent in the world of photography. My best wishes for success in your up and coming show. I understand the anxiety of such, as I have had a few myself, and it is a big relief when it is all hung and the wine is flowing. Good luck! Sincere Regards, Todd

JH de Beer (RSA) , August 14, 2006; 03:44 A.M.

Paul

This visit to your portfolio was thus far the highlight of my day. I have been asking a lot of questions lately (some of them photography related), and I found some answers here. For that, I thank you. For the rest, stellar work - you have shown me again what it's all about. I'll be back soon. I hope you can show us some images of your upcoming show - I hope it goes fantastic. Good luck. JH

Paul Chepikian , August 14, 2006; 08:25 P.M.

Thanks, JH: You've given me an idea. Maybe I will create a special page of the just the images selected. We are working with two curators who helped select the pieces (it's hard for me). There will be a total of 25 pieces. I'll be happy to share them. And thank you so very much for the kind words. My spirits needed lifting today as I am on the eight day of fighting a pretty bad viruse which has me "down for the count." I have so much work to do to prep and I am not allowed up. Arggghhhhhh!!!

JH de Beer (RSA) , August 22, 2006; 12:38 P.M.

Paul

I was thinking, since I love to see photos of photographers taking photos these days: maybe you could ask someone to snap away at the people while they are doing the tour through the gallery - that would be awesome. I wish I was closer, I would volunteer. (maybe you can even do it yourself as a theme - snap the snapper being snapped...)

So when you post your gallery photos, you could maybe include some of the special day to give us 'n "feeling" of what it was like? Hope you feel better soon, and good luck with the final preparations. Cheers. - JH -

Paul Chepikian , August 23, 2006; 07:45 P.M.

Hi JH: We will no doubt have someone taking photos at the exhibit and I'll be proud to post them when the time comes. The good news is that I'm feeling much, much better. It really was a very tough time for over a week. It did put me behind but I'm hoping to get the "show on the road" soon. Thanks for the kind words and the support. Later, Paul

The Eyes Have It Again...

Hi Paul,

I enjoyed you e-gallery. I particularly like the dog and broom photo. But, the abstracts and ground close-ups with the luscious colors look like small paintings of a known but unknown world are always drawing me back to them too. Simply wonderful. Ah yes, and the acupuncture nudes are a favorite of mine from last time. I kinda am stuck on them (pun intended.) It's like a silent comedy, yet I don't know why it's so funny. All the best. Hopefully, you'll get great responses from other gallery people too. This large body of work deserves it. Have a great exhibit.

From Philadelphia, Steve Pullara

Paul Chepikian , August 27, 2006; 04:32 A.M.

Thanks, Steve! The golden statues are a favorite of mine as well. It was surreal standing in a closed factory, on a day with rain and thunder, in China, with hundreds of these little men and women. It was eerie and fun at the same time. In the Twilight Zone version, they all come to life and begin climbing down off the tables. One of these pieces is in the show. I have many others that I want to work on as well. Thanks again for the kind words.

Luca Loro , September 01, 2006; 07:04 A.M.

Hi, you have a fantastic eye for details and ''shapes'', your photos are very good and colors are beautiful...EXCELLENT!!

Paul

I only now read your feedback at my portfolio comments. I am very sorry to hear about you illness. I trust that you will get well soon (actually immediately if that was possible). Looking forward to see some new work soon. Best of luck. JH

Paul Chepikian , November 08, 2006; 03:12 A.M.

Thanks, JH. Everyday, a little better. Have hopes for a full recovery. My right hand is still a little unsteady so I don't trust my hand with a camera just yet. Physical therapy is helping me mend. I too look forward to getting back out there. All the best...

David Meyer , December 20, 2006; 01:21 P.M.

Paul

I have come across your portfolio quite by accident, but was very pleased with what I found. Your sense of color is terrific and I liked some of your macros greatly. Your compositons are flawless. To boot, I enjoyed your bio statement, and believe it reflects a lot of truth as I percieve it.

I will come back and spend more time as soon as possible.

In one of the last comments on your portfolio made last month, some mention was made of you being ill. I hope you are now fully recovered. Cheers

Rejith Warrier , December 28, 2006; 12:27 P.M.

Hello Paul,

I wish you, your family and your friends a happy and prosperous new year. Thanks for all your support, ratings and comments on my photos in 2006. It helped me a lot to improve my shots and I hope I will be able to learn a lot more from your valuable inputs in the coming months. Wish you a successful 2007 with a lot of nice photos.

Shambhala M. , March 23, 2007; 06:23 A.M.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your warm comments on my work. You are a master in colour as much as I am in B&W!!!! I love the New Uploads folder - you and your wife? I want to see more photos of her - she's stunning! I also really like the very overexposed B&W shots in Portraits. And I think you would have a great success in advertising with your still life colour photos.

Paul Chepikian , March 23, 2007; 06:38 A.M.

Dear Shambhala: You are too kind. Yes, I agree, Terry is beautiful. And the truth is she is even more beautiful on the inside. An angel. I do have some more work of her that I will be posting when I get to them. I am also planning on photographing her more this year. Thanks for visitng, thanks for the kind words. Please feel free to stay in touch... Paul

Bridgette E , April 04, 2007; 05:36 A.M.

What a beautiful and varied portfolio. I love it all. The ability to take such wonderful shots is definitely a tribute to your background. I think you are being true to yourself in your search for creativity and doing a fantasitc job. Congrats! Thanks for sharing your work with all of us here on PN.

Hi Paul. One by one and all of your phots is great. All frames are well done. Various and beautiful. Regards.

geri Cullen , May 30, 2007; 08:14 P.M.

Hi Paul thank you so much for your encouraging comments on my portfolio. I have been having a look at yours - I particularly like your China shots, bikes, doors, windows and not forgetting the colourful people shots. They are all excellent. I admire your courage to be experimental as well - particulary as you were an original 'dark room' photographer. I love to experiment too with PS, but as you say you must go slowly, slowly, so as to not ruin or overdo the photo. I will upload more photos soon - have been putting them on one at a time as I have not had much time before to spend on PN. I am just completing a professional photographic course and like you I would like to concentrate more on the 'fine art' side than commercial studio work or weddings. Photography has become an all encompassing passion of mine and like you I couldn't imagine a life without creativity. For me it is the most fulfilling state to be in. I will also note you as a 'person of interest' and will look out for your photos in the future. Regards Geri

On each of my visits to your portfolio, I can't help browsing through all your folders, finding great pleasure looking back at photographs I'd already enjoyed and discovering new posts. Your latest additions are beautiful and form a very cohesive ensemble when one takes that overall view on your oeuvre. Kind regards, Laurent.

steve pullara , October 26, 2007; 07:56 A.M.

Always fun to see!

Hi Paul,

Since I've known you from yearbook days when you first picked up a 35 mm camera, your eye and wit always have come thru; from models, to fires, to nature, to China and all points in between large worlds and small. I'm now drawn to your nature photos, especially the lady bug on the big leave.

We're both blessed to do the things that we enjoy and share with our talent and keen eyes.

God Bless,

Paul Chepikian , November 01, 2007; 03:45 P.M.

Thanks, old friend! Yes, we've both come a long way since the "art room." How wonderful that you were there when I first picked up a camera and do what I do now and that I was there when you first picked up a guitar and you do what you do now! Thanks for the kind words. The ability I have is given to me by the Universe, I'm responsible for what I do with the gift. I hope I am doing it justice.

Dave Hollander , November 02, 2007; 07:27 A.M.

What a wonderful exhibition! All that's missing is one of those metal, fold-over tab "Chepikian" buttons I could deliberately forget to remove in order to impress strangers at the cafe.

Kenneth Fugate , December 04, 2007; 08:23 A.M.

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Ken

I'm as surprised as you, that i haven't left a comment here yet. I also thought i did so years ago... well after this is not the case, i want to tell you now, that i love your photographic endeavours of the world. one thing you pointed out so well is, that we have one central thing in common, and this is diverse subject matter. for me this is what photography is all about: expressing oneself through the pictures one takes. this can be flowers and people, street scenes or models - it's always you who decides. your folio is one of the most inspiring on this site, because it shows, that one doesen't really have to decide for one thing, and only one. the only thing one has to decide for is following ones own spirit, wherever it goes (hope this doesnt sound too esoteric now). fr.

Florian: Esoteric is okay! Having diverse subject matter is just fine as well. It justifies my inability to focus and allows others to see me as being creative instead. Actually, it's a gift and a curse. I have many interests in addition to photography. I have as many interests as I do subject matter I photograph. I tend to be a bit hard on myself and wish I had more focus which I think would have resulted in more success. But then again, what is success other than in the eye of the beholder. Now that's esoteric! Thanks for the kind words. Always feel free to stay in touch and I'll do the same. All the best, Paul.

My Friend...

As a kindred soul and a fairly new friend to Paul I'm even more moved after reviewing his work now, six months after seeing it the first time. I'm lucky because I know him, and the association of his work to who he is as a person deepens the experience.

His eye as an artist is not just sharp and creative, it shows depth into who he is as one of the sensitive people on our planet.

Paul, you find beauty and celebrate the joy of life even in your photojournalistic work.

I commend you as a fine artist and feel privileged to being your friend.

Dearest Barry: Thank you for the kind words. The feeling is quite mutual. I am hoping that someday soon, you will be able to share your work with all of us here at PhotoNet. It is quite a community and I think you will feel welcome and fit in beautifully. Here's to our continuing journey. Nice to have met you on this path.

I just stumbled across your page, and what a page it is! The variety is inspiring. My favorites are the people photos. I especially liked the self portraits because of the strong lighting effects, and the first session with Jen, for the opposite reason. You seem like someone who always has his eyes open. Keep it up!

Cheers,

Phil
