It's rare to find a very unique style whom one sticks to with determination. You have one of those. I really enjoy browsing through your pictures. I think your style is compelling and has something to bring to the world of art.

hello Matthew
I anwsered your comments last night , but lost everything when I hit the proceed tab. Very clever you are in deed. I love stories like yours , the procedures you go through to get the results you do are all just part of the story. I found a site yesterday where most of the portfolio was on smoke images , they were fantastic. A question for you. I have been trying to upload some images into my portfolio but they keep coming back saying they only except jpeg images. I understand that and the images I am sending are jpeg images. Any idea of what could be going wrong ?

Admirable work, fruit of originality and patience.
Once again, your work demonstrates, with brilliance, that art and talent are independent of the tool, which is only a medium. Bye, Alx

Dear Matthew, thank you for all your benevolent comments. I was agreeably surprised by your choice of the images to comment on. I appreciated your fineness and your sensibility.
Concerning the slides, I don't know if they are the true medium, but I didn't find yet the digital projector that could replace my slide projector for about 400-500$ (Leica Pradovit projecting on screen 2m x 2m).
Your images are very difficult to say why I like them. They are destabilizing the criteria (system of subject rules) I use to evaluate a photo or a painting. The appreciation is based on an instinctive spontaneity. Bye, Alx

Love your SX-70 work..... it's beautiful! I'm a big Polaroid fan in all of it's incarnations. Was terribly disappointed when they stopped manufacturing TimeZero film. As I dabbled a bit and fell in love the process. What film I have left, I am not even sure if it will manipulate or not.... What are you going to do when you run out of film?

Matthew, what a beautiful niche you've established here. These images are like paintings, and fine ones, at that. I was delighted by the florals, having myself found those to be a rewarding and satisfying pursuit in the digital field. It was nice to get this perspective of the same kind of beauty we see in them. I'm glad I found your gallery and wish you the best in your endeavors.

Dear Matthew
Thank you for viting my page and making such positive comments. I do not think that the majority of people realise the potential and the results your art would have when printed on art paper or canvas on an ink jet printer. I was hoping that you are using the mediums that you described and you are! You obviously know a lot about this and I would like to share some information with you in the near future. Having looked at your portofolio I felt and shared your excitement about your work because you understand fully the medium we possess and you are making full use of it in a very creative and talented way. A new kind of art is emerging in the 21st century! What do you think we should call it? Many regards, Dimitris.

Van Gogh
Man, you sure have done a great job on these images. They do indeed look like oil paintings and to my eye, resemble Van Gogh. Seeing your brush/stick strokes in the image really adds texture even to the one dimension of the computer screen. I bet in hand, they really look 3D.
I hope you can still obtain the special film required for this process so you can continue with your work.
Beautiful,

Matthew, those are stunning. Thanks for commenting on my "Bird of Paradise". I wouldn't have found you otherwise. I think the poppies look like something that Van Gogh would have painted. Your technique is incredible. I am chairperson for an international photo competition being held in Indianapolis Indiana this year. You should enter. Good prize money and the exhibition is in a downtown venue connected to our mall, and convention center. Also, it is just 2 blocks from the Colts dome. Matthew,
I want to thank you for critiquing my Flower on Catus. I just took a good look at your portfolio. It is great!!! I can see you look at things alot as I do. That is unusual to find someone with the same feelings towards art. I am having a real good time, I am just a bigginer and just lately trying Paint Shop Pro. I am able to try different things. That is where your art is similiar to what mine is going to be. I have only done a few pictures using this photo shop but I sure like it.
Hopefully someday, I will be close to what you do. Very fine Work, I commend you.

Hi there Matthew, just stopped by for a little browse in your portfolio. Have you ever thought to have any of these images printed on to ceramic tiles? I think they would look stunning.
Roger Sonneland
, July 07, 2007; 07:21 P.M.
hey Matthew, glad you also see the possibilities of printing these lovely images on tiles. There are only two people doing sublimation printing here in New Zealand, we use them both, we are in the process of ordering everything and starting to do it ourselves. We are probably about two to three months from production. There are heaps of people doing them and the best site I know is this one, http://www.bestblanks.com/ceramictiles.html . This site will tell you everything you need to know. I am sure there would be someone near to you who would be doing this type of printing. If not we could have a few samples done for you over here and post them. The problem with us doing them is the freight cost between here and there are outrageous. Anyway give it some thought and get back to me. I am just sure this would be a lovely way to display your gorgeous images, and I would be very surprised if it did not open up a few possibilities as to marketing the same images.

Hello Matthew
Took me a moment to go through your portfolio. Sometimes I like to sit an absorb what I am seeing to appreciate them. I must say that I really like your technique that expresses your art work. If these were in frames at a store, you would make a mint. You have the technique of some of our former artists. Keep doing what your doing, I like what I see and most of all the good feeling I get from viewing your photos. Thank you for your encouragement on my portfolio. Take care and can't wait to see more!

Hey Matthew, Thanks for your comment. How is your fiancee? Sorry what happen with her nose... surgery stinks, I'm going to have cosmetic surgery on my nose around November because of where I was born with a cleft lip.
Well, it's not really the reason of the money they won't let me subscribe. I haven't really asked if I could. It's just I know what the answer will be, and it would probably be "No" because they don't order/pay for things over the internet. My mom probably wouldn't care. It's mostly my dad because he doesn't trust giving out our credit card number over the internet... (I don't blame him, the Desktop computer probably has viruses on it, it acts awful, and someone could get the credit card number if we typed it in on that PC, and My laptop, I know I have viruses on it because I downloaded a few things that had viruses on it, and so I'm going to reformat my PC in a few days after I get everything saved) and Plus, if They did let me subscribe my dad would like to take a closer look at the site than he has, and I'm not too sure if I want him nosing around on the site because of some of the photos that people took that are of woman. (if you get my point, I don't believe he'll consider that "photography") I've told my mom about the photograph like that on here - she doesn't seem to mind. It's not like it's of the opposite sex. But if I subscribe with my mom's credit card my dad will still get the bill and probably still would like to look at the site more, maybe he wouldn't mind. Idk.
I love my Art classes. I took Art lessons after school last year, probably will this year too when she starts back with the classes, then I also help her teach the little kids classes later in the week. That was always fun to help the kids, I've probably learn somethings from them as well as them learning from me. I can't wait for my yearbook class, it's going to be a lot of work, I'm going to have to work during the summer on it too, but Oh well. It's better than sitting home all day with nothing to do. I'm glad you like the "Three Flowers" pictures, Daniel Barrington on PN has many collages, he gave me the idea, he has a lot of amazing photos in his portfolio.
Sorry for this comment being so long, I believe this is the longest comment I've wrote on PN. Thanks for your encouragement... I mean, I have support from my mom and dad, it's just that I feel like...They have to say they like/think a photo is good just because their family, But I've found I rather ask people that don't know me because their more likely to tell the truth than a family member or a friend.
Thanks!

I LOVE IT! :D lol... but it was hard taking pictures w/ my camera, I had to use digital zoom and it made my photos look blocky a little bit,so that's why I blurred that picture a bit, and made the image size littler. it's harder to tell. lol.

Hi Matthew
I enjoy your hand manipulated images and I admire your dedication to perfecting one method of photographic expression. The hours you have poured into mastering this technique show very clearly in your sensitive interpretation of your subjects. Although I have moved to digital, I do miss the hands on in the darkroom. I used to achieve great relaxation from hand toning B&W images with Marshal oils. I still shy away from CS2 manipulation and try to do most of my image distorting in-camera. I've been meaning to leaves this note since your art first came to my attention. I'm glad I finally got around to it. Regards Gord

So glad that you left a message on my photo, "Breaking Through," because it led me back to your wonderful, creative portfolio. After reading your biography I am very impressed with your creative manipulation of Polaroid photos. It sounds like a lot of work but so much fun! Nothing like painting with chop sticks...sure beats a mouse.

I'm still bowled over by your photos and am glad that the struggles of the summer haven't quelled your creative spirit too much. I see a thread of peace and beauty that runs throughout everything you produce, and this is a thread to hold onto during the hard times. Thanks for stopping by my portfolio as well. Wishing you lots of peace.

Hi there,
thanks for visiting and taking time writting a comment. You have a different style in photography and editing than most of people I've seen. It is unique and works very well with the objects you are choosing. What I like about it is that it expresses the object well even though it is distorted. Most of us try to bring everything in focus for crystal clear images, but you are going exactly the opposite way and with success as I can see.
Thank you for sharing.

I saw one of your shots and thought it looked Van Gogh-esque. Then I checked your portfolio and bio. What you're doing is brilliant and refreshing! I admire the fact that you're using a technique for this medium which creates such original effects. Thanks for the really great work you do.
Are you the originator of the technique or did you take it and expand upon it?

Hello Friend!
Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.
I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.
Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Matthew, i also have discovered your work thanks to Jeff Long. [maybe you should give him a finders fee...he can get a certain percentage of your rates :-) ]. i remember the first time i saw manipulated polaroids in an art show in New Orleans, and was blown away. i always believed that you had to manipulate the emulsions before they dried. thanks for the explanation. i have to admit, looking at the thumbnail versions of your images i first thought they were manipulated digitally, but once i looked at the larger images, there is a freshness and vitality that i have yet to see in a digital alteration. i can only imagine that your work looks even better in print! really first class work.

Matthew, there are no comments on your amazing portfolio yet! You left a simple comment "Interesting concept" on one of my images, yet I feel compelled to say the same for your entire collection so far! I can tell that they are photographs, but the impressionist result that you achieve is really nice and smooth and pleasant to look at. I'm not sure if it's something you worked at or just some built in tool you used but the images you worked with definitely benefit. Cheers!

Your works have such a rich drawn and painted feeling. Your style penetrates each work, making them easily identifiable with your name. I strive to achieve a consistency across my work ... you inspire.

Matthew, I put the comments on the Martha Vineyard shot when it came thru ratings. so didn't see how you do your prints until I read your comments on my folio. Matthew your technique is doubly awesome!!and chopsticks definate low-tech. Congrats on a wonderful display of patience and artistic acheivement. My anon rating stands...RAY

Hello, Matthew, you have collected here many excellent pictures - more paintings than only photos. All of them with a special look of an oil painting. I really appreciate them because when I do not take photos, I like to do some oil paintings, so your pictures are near me heart. Thank you for sharing, looking forward to meet you again on the gallery. Best regards, Milena

Matthew-
I have looked at your images with great interest over the past few months, and feel compelled to leave you a note regarding this exquisite collection. Your work with the Polaroid camera, and your unique technique for creating your vision is incredibly inspiring to me. All of your compositions are just superb; but it is the personal touch you affix to each image that makes them so rich and alive to me. Each of your works is truly art; and I, for one, am totally humbled by your expertise and willingness to share these beautiful images with all of us on PN. I really appreciated the detailed explanation of the process you go through for each of the images too. Good luck to you, Matthew; and I look forward to following your future postings and your career. Cheers! Chris

Interesting and unique portfolio. Thanks for explaining the technique. Personally, I strongly prefer the technique on pictures that have lesser details, like some of your simple landscapes or skies. Beautiful work. Good luck, and do keep it up!

Your technique that amalgamates photography with the expressiveness of painting is really fascinating.Your portfolio is uniquely beautiful. I like that the expression of each picture is very individually supported by this technique. A pitty that I live too far away in order to be able to see your pictures in the original format.
I am looking forward to see many more of your pictures in the future.
Best wishes,
