Welcome to Pnet. I happened by here because you left a comment on an image of mine, and I always like to see who's been looking. So I found you are a newbie here and thought I'd leave a welcome message. I'll have to be quick today, but I'll check things out and get back later, as it looks like there are some interesting images.

Stephanie Luke , February 14, 2008; 04:38 P.M.

Welcome to photonet. I'm also a member of the New York Photo Safari meetup, where I saw your link. Interesting pictures of the Giants parade. I guess I was so enamoured of the actual confetti that I tended to focus on that, never having seen that before. Maybe I'll see you at a meeting.

Hello, Ray

Many thanks for your comment on my "Mind the Gap"! Indeed, 'the great escape' is a real alternative - will try to elaborate something around... The good news is that - because of your posting - I found your portofolio! In summary: very fresh and lively folder with a lot of humor woven in. The titles are superb! I am curious what comes next... and now "back to work!" :).I comment on the yolk on 'Mind the Gap' Regards, El.

Peter Blum , March 09, 2008; 10:59 A.M.

Hello Ray,

Thanks for your comments on my portfolio and on a picture of mine. Nice variety of various street photography - fun to see your type of images. Lots life in them. I am sure N.Y.C has enough motives to fill a lifetime. I also think it is fun to snap this kind of pictures. The lady on your commented picture appearently didn't think likewise. Keel up your good work - maybe we will see more of each others work in the future..

All the best

I love New York. I was there for maybe 5 hours, on Broadway. I was working on a ship, docking in Bayone so I escaped from work for a morning. Find me a donation from NY photo club so I can come there and spend a month with you guys.

Much Love from Bosnia

What a fantastic kaleidoscopic vision of Manhattan. I've lived in and around The City for more than 40 years--but you've come up many nooks and crannies that I've seen before. Beautiful work. --jim

Andrea de Bonis , April 04, 2008; 02:28 P.M.

ray, thanks for commenting my portfolio. I spent some time looking at yours, and I loved to say this: you have a way to do photos very honest. You dont try to obtain a "spectacular" single photo, but you prefear to show yours places, your town, driving the attention of the persons regarding to the soul, or to what is important for you. After have seen 100 photo about N.Y., (where i have never been); i can say that you have explaining something to me, and that now I have an idea of the atmosphere, of the way of life. This is very important. i think that photograhie is a very simple affair... is not graphic or visual art, is a key to think and learn. ciao. andrea

Thanks for the comment about my shot. I really like your work. I've been telling my wife we need to go to NYC and will use your portfolio as a travel brochure.

Ray Brizzi , April 19, 2008; 03:23 A.M.

Thanks to all for the encouragement. I really appreciate it. I don't follow the rules too closely, and I don't obsess about whether every tone is represented, or if everything is in the right position or bending the proper way. I see what I like and I try to get the image that was in my mind into pixels. Some will like it and some won't. My ratings have been increasing slowly and I do take criticism and ratings as an indication that lets me know where I need to improve.

It's gratifying to see that so many people like the images I've made this year in my early digital attempts. At some point, I may do a mass load of old black and white negatives from the 70s and 80s as well.

Thanks again! Ray

El Porte-Bonheur , April 25, 2008; 05:47 A.M.

I've just popped in to see what's new in you folders and to refresh my memory a bit. Central Park in blossom looks very attractive. Have a nice day, Ray! Regards, El.

Thanks for the tour of NYC!

Ray, finally got some time to cruise PN again. (Thanks for your comments) And I really liked what I see here. Kinda of like one man's journey thru NYC. Last time I was in the city was way back in the late 60's. Actually right after I missed making it to Woodstock. Just kept on hitchhiking til I hit New York City. City scared the dickens out of me. Like what you have done presenting it. Like a cross section of humanity and places. Little views of what life is like in the coolest spot in the world. Congrats on some great folios and would love to see you scan some of your earlier work and drop it on PN to share with us...RAY

Thanks for your comments on my photo. Your point was quite well taken.

Your portfolio evidences a diversity of subjects as well as techniques. It also shows that you have a great deal of empathy toward the subjects, especially those in NYC.

P.S. I am not a native of The City, but I am married to a woman from Brooklyn, so I guess that counts for something.

Hansjurgen Bauer , August 05, 2009; 09:34 A.M.

the word "interesting," I know I've just been given the kiss of death.

Hansjurgen Bauer , August 23, 2009; 10:36 A.M.

Interesting. Followed by a smile, of course. Interesting One of the more deadly words an artist has to listen to. I simply don't understand you. Ray, I'm creating world class images and you tell me they could probably be improved by doing it your way. Yeah, I could have shot it a thousand different ways, but I didn't, I shot it like I did. You must realize, that when someone is working at a certain level, they aren't really presenting their work because they're seeking opinions on how to improve it, they're merely sharing. And I don't mean to be overly harsh, perhaps you mean well, I have no way of knowing. But really, do you somehow fail to see the difference between what i'm doing and %99.99999999999999999999 OF WHAT APPEARS ON THESE PAGES!?!

Hansjurgen Bauer , August 24, 2009; 12:15 A.M.

NONSENSE, NOPE, I DIDN'T DELETE ANY PART OF YOUR EVER SO HELPFUL OBSERVATIONS, NONE WHATSOEVER. Ray, you're not an artist, you're a guy who happens to own a camera, good for you, you point and shoot and post everything that crosses your path. My God, you've got over 1500 images, what they represent is anybody's clue, a vast selection of random shots that convey - well, absolutely nothing. Ansel Adams didn't produce that many images in the course of a very long and productive career. Again, you're not an artist and it would be pointless to attempt to educate you as regards what may or not be happening in my images. You don't get it. Zip. Nada. End of story.

Ray Brizzi , August 25, 2009; 02:20 P.M.

auf wiedersehen

World class. Indeed.

Hi Ray Brizzi

Your portfolio is well diversified, depicting, in most pictures, the daily life of the people and the landscapes of New York City (NYC) and vicinity (including Greece!!!). I like photographing people in their moments of distraction, seeking to show some details of the environment and the places where they live. I think it's one of the many steps by all photographers, especially amateurs like me. We started looking for original objects for shooting (a flower, a bird, a butterfly, a statue, an unusual scene) until, finally, agreed. Right now, we're not amateurs and enter for a bunch of photographers with a little higher level. If you have time to look at my portfolio, you'll notice that I'm still drifting with my photos, especially in step of revelation. I need to learn how to use Photoshop. Congratulations for your portfolio that allows a tour of New York and the surrounding areas. I'm learning with my Masters. One day, perhaps, I will be at the same level of competence. Warm regards. Roldao.
