Splendid
I love your pictures, especially the boldly colourful ones. Just one (OK two questions). Do you rate your NPH at the designated 400 speed or lower when shooting? Do you enhance the colours of NPH in photoshop? Nevertheless your pics are wonderful. BH.

great!!
I am anew member at the forum, and u photo of the terraced fields got me to download ur entire page.
the photos are all well taken. i aslo liked the fact that u have caught the light and mood and colours of the places u have visited , and i know that the time of taking photos while traveliing such palces is not always right yet they are very correct and excellent.
i want to know what set /kit u use for the photography, and which zoom lenses u have used.
i also would have wished only one thing , in some
scenes u may have got even bettr /stunnigneffect if u used the rule of 3rds/4 rths.

Outstanding gallery!
Sarah, for starters, thanks on your kind words and ratings on my photograph here: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2319696
Moving on - I find your portfolio truly inspirational. Rich, saturated colours move me in more ways than one - and your photographs pop with colours!
I love the diversity in your images - whether they be portraits, street scenes or landscapes - your work encompasses them all - and in an extremely powerfull way. As I said, truly inspirational.
While my work does not hold a candle to your own, I am constantly striving to improve my work. While I am yet to develop a personal style of my own, I do tend to drift towards colourful scenes, wide perspectives and capturing people in their natural environment.
I would be grateful if you could view my work and give me any tips - including constuctive criticism (no matter how harsh) of how I may improve my work. Thanks in advance.

Christos Stavrou , June 11, 2004; 04:52 P.M.
a lot of praise and one contradiction
I find your work very good and interesting. Strong compositions, with a mastery in using colour and placing the viewer in new, attractive points of perspective. And exactly this latter particular element, which elevates usual and taken for granted spots to something worthy of our attention, discovering their relative nature and the hidden aspects within things, this is I think exceptional and probably the strongest point here... But just here is where I also find one contradiction. It relates to the folder 'symbols', as well as to those soldier photos that were recently removed, and which surprisingly seem to lack that aforementioned critical quality. (Sadly, the folder with the soldier photo was removed without a reply, shortly after I criticised it for mirroring the army's ideological construction and advertisement: 'clever' idealisation of some imaginative heroic individual and indirectly of war). In fact, although such social subjects carry an inherent conflict of interpretation, and an actual investment upon them of specific meaning in time and space by particular power groups, here they are presented as mere aesthetic objects, as if they are what they say they are. I don't know if this is a conscious choice, but it's difficult to work thematically (symbols are not mere aesthetic objects and when presented as such it is an uncritical presentation of the mainstream interpretation). I add these comments as a constructive critique and out of respect for your talent and vision.

great body of work
I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing your portfolio Sarah and I just wanted to say that I think you have a wonderful eye for finding the details in the "mundane" objects around us. You have a wonderful ability to capture colour and abstraction in your subjects to provide interesting compositions that remind the viewers of the photos that there is beauty all around us if we just open our eyes and are receptive to it. Keep up the great work!

Excellent Color Work
Your composition superb. Graphic elements carefully chosen with just the right juxtaposition. You have quite an eye for found designs. You also capture images of people remarkably well. Seeing you're very well travelled, I wondered if you're a journalist, in the travel business or perhaps a missionary? All of those endeavor's allow you access to some very uncommon moments, people, and places. I think you've done amazingly well with all those uncommon people, places and moments. Perhaps you'll publish your memoirs at a time when you're not globe trotting? I'd bet it would be pretty interesting! Thank-you for sharing such an inspirational look at our world. Sarah! I highly appreciate you on your aesthetic sense & the endeavor you made to catch the "colours" from Baluchistan (Pakistan) & war torn Qandhar (Afghanistan).
Hope you won't mind if these pictures put some of your visitors to a smile underguise of interpreting that it was not just a trip to catch simply photographs but something else more.Anyway, great job really!

Sarah - I'm working on being more "global" about photo.net ... as in, not just concentrating on one or two images at a time, but looking through entire portfolios. :-)
Yours is amazing. I have always had a great appreciation for your images ... but spending some time looking at the portfolio as a whole has renewed my appreciation for your artwork.
I think that the thing that I appreciate most is that you remind me of the passion that I have, personally, for the many different cultures that exist on this grand planet. So many Americans have a great inability to look beyond our own culture. You are able to capture not only the things that are unique to us Yankees, but force us to go beyond ourselves and place value on those who aren't like us (or are they???) Every visit to your work sparks that passion anew in my heart ... and I can even go to work (in the international community that exists in Arlington) and love what I do more than I did yesterday.
Thank you!!

Sarah, Giving a look to your portfolio i have been it by the quantity (and the quality) of color pictures you have done. As a b/w photographer i really miss the colorful side of life, and caming here gave me a good replenishment of greens, red, deep yellows. I like you shoot many portraits and ambience portraits, i feel you are really talented on the matter. I also loved your closeups - some are really burned into my mind.... there is one, yello, plastic, probably an inflatable cushion... and i don't know why i keep thinking about it.... I am happy to have discovered your folder, i hope to see your images from time to time, and i will stop by anytime possible. Regards. g.

Very nice work. You really have the right idea when it comes to using color not for color's sake, but to form an image. (hopefully that makes sense) And it's not just the color, either...it's the choice of subjects, the composition, and your technical competency. Keep on keepin' on!
Dan Hu , April 14, 2005; 08:00 P.M.
Amazing
Your portraits and abstracts are truly inspirational. If you have any sage advice for one who is starting to look seriously at the art of capturing people, it would be much appreciated. You have a unique perspective... that is clearly creative and full of interest in the subject.

the joy of life in your pics...
I often browse the portfolios of people who have posted critiques on my portfolio, mainly to better understand their critiques. But this time it's been a unique experience. and I feel honoured and belittled at the same time for having received your critique. thanks for being here and sharing your talent with us.

Sarah, like Marco has well said, browsing your portfolio is a never ending surprise how well you combine and manage color, composition, perspective, etc. Everything is so wisely balanced. I dare to say that having you around is something that a begginner like me should always treasure. Regards,

Polaroids
Sarah, I see that you made some nice comments about my Polaroids some time ago. Now that I see your work those compliments are magnified 1000X. If I could join in celebrating your talent; I think your stuff is deserving of a more gallery-like environment. Collections of prints (sic) more or less the same size, framed and matted.
Spaced would be nice (by uploading transparent html?).
That's another topic. For now I'd like to start lobbying for a Polaroid section in the photo.net galleries. You mentioned looking for some. Yes?
I have posted more myself. Come on by.
BTW, is it possible to give a rating to a whole collection? Congratulations.

Awesome graphics
I am blown away by your color graphic work. You appear to seek out design elements that work well together. I have something for you to try that was a revelation for me. Next time you're out and looking for graphic color design elements to shoot, I want you to stop and change your focus. Just try this little focus shifting technique: Look for "ugly color". In other words, find colors you think are just plain ugly, garrish no, (too close to the graphic colors you 're looking at already) butt-ugly yes! Let me know what you think of the resultant images with the "ugly color" as primary subject. Try and stick to all "ugly colors" only. Don't mix any pretty vibrant Blues or warm, bright Yellow, keep me posted!

complimenti ancora.

I am always fascinated by the imaginative people who 'see' interesting patterns and colors in the things that we usually pass by and make such beautiful images with it. Of course, you are one of them. Your abstracts remind me of another interesting artist here on PN (someone else). To me it is a nice thing. I hope you don't mind the comparison.

Sarah
You know, sometimes I think my work is pretty good until I come across a portfolio that defines the word "good". Then I am embarrassed by my presumption and I see my photographs as they really are in the light of the work of a master. The fact that you took the time to look at them and were kind enough to leave a comment is both encouraging and a much-needed lesson in humility. Thank you very much. Regards, Jack
ps: I think the thing I notice most about your pictures is thst it seems you have so much fun taking them. They are filled with light and joy.

Fabulaous, especially your stripped down images. Have you ever heard of Miksang photography? It is a program of camera based meditation that involves images that are very similar to yours in that there are so many of your pictures that are just raw bits of percetion and therefore look very fresh. I have taken the program and loved it. If it sounds interesting just Google for miksang.net
Cheers.

Ciao Sarah!
Like the comment above, to look through your portfolio is like looking through National Geographic. I am flattered that you took a moment to comment on one of my images. Your portfolio is stunning. It is artists as you that have made P Net such an incredible learning experience and continue to be so. Your images reflect not only a love of your art but a love for the people that you photograph and love of the world that sorrounds you.
I hope that you continue to have an interest in my work, since it through artists as you that I continue to learn.
Thank you very much.

Hello Sarah
I have been meaning to comment on your portfolio for sometime now but felt somewhat overwhelmed. I am a big admirer and wanted to state the obvious of which your work is simply spectacular. I also wanted to thank you, as you are the main reason I stumbled across PN and decided to get re-engaged in photography. I discovered your work and inquired on some images to purchase and well, I am now spending unreasonable amounts of time looking at yours and other talented people?s fine work. You are a great advocate and talent. I enjoyed visiting the 180 degree website. Looks very interesting. Thanks for the inspiration.

a wonderful portfolio
Sarah....You wrote "I have learned that all people want to live their lives in peace, without fear, with freedom to just live"
This is so very true.
YOu also say "I have learned that family is the most important thing to all people on this planet I see happiness everywhere."
Family is the most important thing and yes there is happiness everywhere...but there is also, too much sadness.
I wish you the very best with all your adventures.
Your portfolio is wonderful.

Sarah, I 've kept coming back to your portfolio a few times recently, after reading your comments on other photographers' pictures. I felt so impressed and humble in front of your work, and a little shy too. I would like to thank you very much for leaving a comment on one of my photographs. Kindest regards, Laurent.
Paul Dussault , June 28, 2006; 05:25 P.M.
Thanks Sarah!
By accident, yours is the first portfolio I stumbled on while browsing PN for the first time, a few months ago. I was practically new to photography and had not *really* looked at many photographs before. But I recall quite vividly the strong impression of lightness, openness and freedom your brilliant images and unencombered style left me with, and what an eye-opener they were for me.
A few days later, and not by accident anymore, your name was the first one in my "interesting people" list. :)
I admire your avid and clever eye, and marvel at how consistent and recognizable your vision is, as well as its wide range, from playful to caring and compassionate.
And I think I bring with me a little bit of your infectious enthusiasm for colors and people every time I go out shooting.

Hello Friend!
Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.
I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.
Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

A Brilliant & Insightful Photo Artist
A brilliant and insightful photographic artist who will surely be missed by her fellow artisans, friends and family. Our condolences can be forwarded to Sarah's family through the guestbook that they created on Yahoo's web site: http://www.geocities.com/ruckypuck/. It appears they were quite astounded at the level of interaction and communication with the numbers of photographers and artists that she had communicated with over the last decade. She will surely be missed by all through the numerous times and levels of interactions we have had with her over the years regarding life, photography as a career, and imaging arts. I think that many people are totally unaware of her stellar photographic career, she has published work in; Time, Newsweek, The Boston Globe, The LA Times and in several photo-illustrated AP wire service photo-illustrated feature stories. She was really a photo-journalist of the first magnitude. She didn't show much of that work here but she was also a first-rate photographic artist and chose to pursue what she deemed to be more creative pursuits on this site. Sarah had been most recently working for the US Army at a research facility near Boston, MA. Some of her extensive Army and photo-journalism work can be found at her Lightstalkers.org site. I am grateful to you all for having shared your thoughts and concerns on PN over the years, and I know we will all greatly miss Sarah's gifted presence in so many ways.

I can't believe it has been nearly 2 years since you have left us and I am only now finding out.I feel almost as bad about the fact that I didn't know as I do to know that you are no longer with us. Although I never met you, I have a great deal of respect for you and the work you did and am also a huge fan of the photos you posted here on Photo.net. I was so honored when you marked me as "interesting", and was always thrilled when you made a comment on one of my photos. I am going to miss you so very, very much. Goodbye, Sarah, may you rest in peace.
