Your photos have extremely interesting subject matter. They seems so spontaneous its hard to imagine getting such great photos kind of randomly. The colors are so interesting they just draw my eye. I commented on the man. I think it is my favoirte out of the bunch.

Inspiring
All of your photo's are inspiring in many ways.
Very creative and well thought out. You must come across so many interesting people. Your photo's are of broad variety which speaks well of your capabilities in your use of a camera. Your portfolio shows much like a fine art presentation.
Thank you for sharing your work.

Hi Tim. Thanks for your comment on my image. I quite like leaky Holgas : ). I have 4 of them an on that day I decided to go out with the leakyest of the bunch to ensure that my film would fog extensively. In the darkroom I decided to over print the image... it just felt right. I guess that's what's most important anyway. Cheers Tim. Merry Christmas

Well... I didn't believe somebody could be equally "specialized" in so many photographic fields...The passion in your photos is amazing. One can learn the technical merit, but not the way to create exceptional images. Respect!

I'm not trying to blow smoke up your ass, but in my opinion this is the most down to Earth, yet thought provoking bunch of photos on the site. Also, I can see a difference from your older to the more recent. You're a real photographer.

Thank you very much for your rate on one of my humble photos (4/4 on "Fishing boat")). This is not ironic. I'll come to see it more carefully but the first impression is truelly, how can I say, delicious! I know what is an excellent photographer when I see one. Thanks for sharing.

I would be most honored if you took a look at my work and made some critiques or suggestions on how to improve my shots.
Christos Stavrou , January 01, 2005; 08:48 A.M.
Maybe we could exchange ideas one day and discuss about (photo)-perspectives in looking this world, multiple interpretations and different values, especially tolerance for the other.. But this will need freedom of mind, not claustrophobic self-ideologies and american nationalism, like yours... Oh yes, maybe talk about your folder on industrial revolution as well, very interesting... but was it really a "decorative" and "technological" thing with colourful aesthetics and geometrically pleasing smoke-patterns as you nicely mis-represent it, or mainly a social, human (where are they?) process of division, conflict and material polarisation?... Oh Tim!.. you might not be so interested about the deeper conflicts on meanings, values, wealth... the ultimate human condition and our struggles... the effort to get into the controversies of existence, where dominant power exploits and legitimates its actions... Not of course that your work has no skill and much emotion here, strong and poignant, even if sometimes abstracted and idealised for me, too 'nice', too distanced from reality... Well, these are different perspectives and here is one fine 'decorative' perspective in life!... as long Tim you don't perceive this site to represent the american or your ideological point of view... and as long you actively do not try to block or undermine others -like my work- who express things that have not entered your delicate assumptions yet... Good liberation Tim.. (ps: since you spend so much time in galleries, i'm wondering if you came across any Warhol's work and if you then complaint about his work for incorporating others' work -cultural artifacts, like you did with my efforts.. :-)
Nicole Stibbe , January 02, 2005; 09:49 A.M.

Tim, while many of your photos are quite compelling on their own, as a collection they represent a singular, sometimes quirky, often meditative vision. Unlike many on this site, you've developed a recognizable, personal style, as you and your camera explore the world around you. I'll continue to look forward to seeing the artifacts you collect.

Yep...
Tim, I can't add anything you haven't heard before. You are definately my new "interesting person". I love that you love photography. We need more people like you and I. But I always feel like a nerd admitting that to too many people in fear that they will not understand what it is that enraptures and entises us. You are no snap shooter. Your images are breathtaking without being cliche. You truely are inspirational--giving life to the craft and all those people who see your work. Thanks for sharing! I will be back many times to get my fix. And if I copy you, its flattery.

Well, thanks to your little frog and that toad I've come around to your portfolio. There are many photographs here that are outstanding. So much so that I'm a bit overwhelmed. Since I'm not a drive-by rater, I am going to contemplate your work here and then comment where I feel I must.
As far as your little frogs go, I like the black and white shot best.

Hi Tim. I walked into your portfolio and i'm still trying to figure out from where to start exploring it! Sometime i hear a voice inside me whispering that the best picture is the one that has yet to be taken... if i am half as passionate as you are, well i am probably looking at what my future may look like: many many many images... just hope as good as yours. Actually the folder i liked most is the "milwakee art museum", it is very geometric, minimalist, somewhat deceiving... but i should really take much more time on any single folder to really get an hint of the extent of work here. Thank you for sharing with us your strong photography.

Overwhelmed
And I mean that as a compliment. I have just discovered your portfolio and started digging in. Your passion, humor, compassion, and originality come through again and again. As I noted in my comments, I particularly love the shots that bring a unique perspective (both to the graphics and subject).
I only wish PN made it easier to arrange and rearrange galleries. I get lost in yours because of the quantity and if you were able to arrange a "best of" or some other way to narrow down, I would appreciate it.
Congratulations and thanks

A picture of your father on a pier is one of my favorite for a long time. I also keep in mind some word of your biography.

Are there enough adjectives to describe.....
... your work? Spontaneous, joyful, enchanting, dreamy....yet with a hint of dark and moody. I could go on but then I'd be rambling. I simply love your portfolio, and wanted to let you know.
c tr , September 11, 2005; 06:41 P.M.
You add a human touch to an inanimate photo. The photo becomes alive with feeling and emotion and stories... and conveys pretty much everything that it could convey apart from being beautiful. I agree with everything that has been said!
Ilse P , September 27, 2005; 03:30 A.M.
Wonderful!
You have a wonderful portfolio with some stunning images! I still have a long way to go before I will be able to produce something as beautiful as these (and maybe I never will, but I can only have fun trying ;oD ).
But I partly disagree with something you mention in your biography (though it is very poetic and thoughtful). True, images of the past can bring back feelings of missing and sadness, but on the other hand, they can also make that you remember things that you completely forgot about. They can reveal long forgotten memories and make you relive part of the past. They also allow you not to forget about persons... Thereby they maybe make time elastic since they can let you travel freely between "now" and "back then". Just a thought and hopefully no offense taken...
Ben Anderson , September 28, 2005; 07:40 P.M.
Some great stuff here Tim, brings back great memories of the time I spent in Milwaukee when I was younger. I worked there in the summer of 94 after finishing university in England, as a removal man with Hernia Movers - I'm sure you've seen their trucks about. Great days. Keep up the great work.

I like your pictures very much... i like espec. how you take a picture of dog and trees. These two are my favorite things in your portfoglio ( maybe because i like to take picture of my dog and trees) but i like them all (musicians, industy folder ...all) just excellent...regards...

Your photos are amazing, the subjects are amazing, compositions fly, I am envious. I am very impressed with the tones of your b&w images, also amazing. How you photo architecture with human presence is simply amazing, actually all your photos have a minimalistic style and you tend to present everything as elements of a static composition. I do not know how you do it but you tend to present photos where really time has stopped. I do not know what else to say, thanks for sharing.

Thanks again for taking the time to look at this weird assortment of images? Peter, I logged on a few minutes ago and saw one of my faux wedding photos under Stefan Rohner's POW and wondered what was going on. I never thought the curators here would consider my portfolio because of its rather weird and eclectic nature. I am glad they did but I don't really consider myself in the same league as Mr. Rohner and many others here.

OK, please forgive me ahead of time. I am not going to argue that these aren't beautiful photographs, they are - but somebody's got to give a critical thought - so here goes:
These are the work of a master technician - perfect color, saturation, composition but they are lacking for me in depth. I see them but wonder what are you showing me but technical virtuosity? I see pretty, but then I'm done looking. Weston took perfect photos, but he did it YEARS ago and he chose simple natural objects to portray like they hadn't been before. It doesn't do anything for me today to see pretty things rendered beautifully.
I look at your collection and I see what looks like every frame on every roll - what does one dog and trees photo show us that all the others don't?
Again, I appologize for being the lone voice of dissent. I'm really not trying to be an asshole.
Respectfully,
-A

I would really like to thank all of you for taking the time to look at my images. I consider it a true privilege to have my portfolio displayed here here on PN for photographers from all over the world to view, many of whom are ten times better than I am. I really and truly wish that everyone would get the opportunity like I have just had, it is enjoyable and humbling at the same time. I don't consider myself to be a real photographic artist, more of a guy from Milwaukee that takes a lot of images to satisfy his curiosity and document his surroundings. I was thinking it would be nice if I could send a brand new Nikon D2X camera to every one that slogged through my whole portfolio because you would certainly deserve it. My wife put the kabosh to that idea so you will have to settle for my sincere thanks!
Vuk Vuksanovic , January 18, 2006; 11:36 P.M.
the revolution is upon us
the portfolio presented here is an excellent example of how photography has finally freed itself from the shackles of elitist art and neurotic toil which masquerade as quality and craftsmanship. that said, i have to confess i'm not entirely sure if all the irregular cropping, kitchen shop toning and loose editing (especially with regard to dog) are part of a monumental ironic statement or merely innocent/inevitable abuses of this freedom. anyhow, it hardly matters when so many people agree about the overall result. congratulations!

Inspiration
Im kinda a old timer of PN, and of all the photographers and photographs I have seen over the years Tims have had the most effect on me, his vision and way of seeing is not tainted with trying to produce art or be trendy or make it real etc, just his own unique way of seeing a shot that comes thru his images so well,he has been THE inspiration for keeping me photographing and also being active on the NW board, and also .. keeping me visually alive.Congrats Tim

Your portfolio
I'm really adding nothing new, but your images are great! For me they seem to really walk a razor thin line between surreal and genuine (and somewhat disturbing) reality. (In some cases; particularly your industrial shots.)

"I am not sure why I take photographs. I know that it allows me to express feelings that seldom surface. I appreciate light, shadows mean something. My images remind me of the past, like the smell of burning leaves in the fall. Sometimes I think it would be easier not taking photographs. Maybe time would become more elastic and slow down. Maybe I would not feel the emptiness and sadness when I see the photograph of my Grandfather picking an apple from a tree in our yard. Maybe the hours and minutes, like the ash blowing through the burning canyon, wouldn't disappear so fast."-that is exactly what i feel looking at my photographs, and takeing them!Well, thanks for comment(:-)

Tim, I only hope I can find the words to do your portfolio the justice it deserves. You are an intelligent, articulate, creative, and imaginitive soul who has a genuine gift for photographing the world around him - good and bad. You have exquisite taste in colours, tones, and composition, and a remarkable skill for capturing the truest, purest, sensitivities of a moment. Tender, tragic, warm, compassionate, powerful, or peaceful. You have an eye for all. You are truly an inspiration, and I am honoured to have viewed your work. You are one of the best photographers I've seen, and I will visit often. Utmost respect, Tina

So you love dogs, leaves and old ladies out of focus behind beautiful flowers in focus... and so much more obviously. I haven't read all the comments above (because I spent the little time I had on all your bloody marvelous images!)but I suppose it has all been said. I want to add that you wit and humour nearly exceeds your photographic images. Without stating the obvious, captions like "man in straw hat with fishing rod" or something like that it just hillarious! Poking fun at the maxim: "If you have to explain your photo you didn't get it right"? Happy shooting. I'll be back. Warm regards. JH

to smile and know
The few phrases of your biography and perhaps titles such as 'trees that I have tried to know' made it clear to me that beyond accurate, undeniable technical virtues you nurture and keep frozen behind fiery glass subtle glitters of moments. My bow to you.

Tim
You have many, many very fine outstanding photos. I have thoroughly enjoyed going through the portfolio. I know it is terribly presumptuous of me, so I will apologize in advance, but I honestly think your portfolio could benefit from a bit of paring down. I say this for two reasons. First, it is time consuming for viewers to download so much. Second, there are times when you have posted essentially the same photo. In most cases, my guess is you know which one is the strongest image of several similar ones, so it is best to go with that, and not be redundant (in my humble unsolicited opinion). Great work. Keep them coming.

I don't know how I got here, but I'm glad I did. Your photos are extremely inspirational. Tim, this is great stuff and this page is a great resource for me so that I can learn more about composition and technique. The shots with the dog backlit by the setting or rising sun are phenomenal. But then, almost every one of these shots (and you have LOTS of photos on your site... when do you find the time to upload so much??? I haven't uploaded 90% of what I'd like to upload simply because it takes too much time...) is fantastic.

Tim, I have not before now had the opportunity to look deeply into your very impressive portfolio. I love it !
In my view, the essence of much of what I feel you are expressing in your many photos gives the message of an observation of the world around you marked by a great sense of humour and an ironical touch, some sadness and a great love of life. If I should organise a retrospective show of your photos I would choose your photo: "Window light during snow storm" as poster for it. For me that photo, among several others, deserves to be on the walls of a museum to celebrate you as an extraordinary photographer that has managed to express himself fully (?) by photography. We all strive towards it - you seem to have succeeded. I'll be back.

Thank You
Hello Tim
Merry Christmas to You too, thank You even for Your 4/4 rating, I feel that You rated my photo after You read my forum posting about the 3/3 ratings.
I dont know what You wanted to prove, I missed though some comments too for the 4/4, but no problem, it seems to be several other with quite different opinions of my work.
Well, it is just this kind of behaviour I dislike but I must say again, thank You for the time You took to look at my photo and for the rating.
But I will return always without any hard feelings to Your portfolio to see Your great work and to be inspired and even to learn more.
Cheers

Well Tim, I'm not sure what more I can say that hasn't already been said before me! Clearly you have a LARGE number of admirers :-)) and well deserved.
I've been an avid admirer of your work since I came across your "Wedding today at the Art Museum" POW in 2004. What amazes me is your ability to continually explore a subject and bring fresh new perspectives to it. An exercise in seeing that can benefit even the best of photographers!
Also I must admit I'm a big fan of your "quirkiness" and your ability to bring a smile to my face. I know I'd love to be 1st in line to shoot with you, I'm sure it would be exciting but also a lot of fun :-))

Hello Tim
Your photos just blow me away. Here I am stressing about upcoming finals but then I look at your pictures and all m anxieties just go away. But anyways I was wondering if you would mind if I painted some of your photos. I am recently signed up for a marathon and am now trying to raise money to help find a cure for Leukemia. I figured it would be a fun fundraising idea if I could paint and sell some of my works. I enjoyed looking at all your work and would love to paint them for the fundraise. I am usually not good with photography and don't really know how to take photos as well as you do. So if you don't mind me doing so, I would definitely still give you credit for your work by writing your name on the paintings. Thank you and if you or any one you know would like to help out by donating, you could visit my website that I just created.

I read your words in your bio and knew before I even looked at the images that I would be drawn into them. I feel the same way about photography. Maybe that's why I've not found a style or a category into which I fit--and maybe I'm fine with that. Life is all about the unexpected collision of things. Sound and texture, warmth and skin, light and surface. There's something new to appreciate every time your eyelashes recover from a blink. It has been a pleasure to see that in your work, a wonderful breadth of appreciation for the world and all there is to see in it.

Wedding Shot Advice
Hi Tim - I'm an amateur photographer and I love to shoot wedding photos and hoping that someday I can be a wedding photographer. I love all the wedding shots that took and was hoping if you can give me some advice. How do you instruct the bride and the groom because I have difficulties getting them to follow my instructions. Any advice on lighting would also be very helpful.
Thanks,

Hi again Tim
It looks like about 5 years I've been horsin' around on this web site & I haven't seen anyone's body of work I enjoy more than yours.
Tonight I started going through your pictures via the slide show. The slide show is a great option . the pictures look great & there are no rates or lame comments to suffer through. If you haven't tried this I suggest you do so. [You'll need plenty of time for your portfolio] I've gone through less than half your photos tonight & I've gone through better than half a six pack.
Some day I hope you put your best, or at least your favorites together in some kind of book & show them. The people of that city should see these images. Someone besides us mopes here on Photo.net.
I've seen lots of pictures. Looking at other people's pictures is my hobby. it's what I do. & most of my favorites are dead. But you're still with us. What a distinction huh?

Hello Friend!
Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.
I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.
Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Red Umbrella
Your red umbrella photos are amazing, strange thing is the other day before even knowing this site exsisted (I am a new member), I went out to an antique shop and bought a bright red umbrella and went out with a model and started shooting at a local park here in Sparta, Wisconsin. I think I unknowingly stole your idea, I have yet to develope the film but I am sure your images of this subject matter are far greater, so from now on all leave the red umbrellas to you. Permission to use your image in a PowerPoint presentation
Tim, since you do not list a way of contacting you by email on your photo.net page, I am going to leave you a note here.
I am creating PowerPoint presentations on photographic composition that I am giving to the members of the Photo.net community.
In coming across your work, I would like to ask permission to include one or more of your pieces from your photo.net portfolio. Your work has very strong compositional elements that I would like to use as examples of well constructed composition.
These presentations will be for all intents and purposes an extension of your portfolio. Presentation of the images are one per slide and will be as large as the slide and aspect ratio of the image will permit. It will have the title and your name as a link to your photo.net page. The links in PowerPoint are clickable, so as learners go through the slide presentation, they can visit your page with just a click to see your portfolio.
I am anticipating your reply, and hope very much that I will be able to include your work.

I can't believe I haven't left a comment yet.
I visit here all the time. I aspire to make photos like you make. Above all I try to appreciate the breath I take each day. Your architectural shots are inspiring. Your portrait shots are moving. I am humbled every time I come here. Humbled and inspired. Thank you for sharing. I will think of you when I go back to the MAM. From the looks of it there is a lot of snow to trudge through. All my best. M

Hi Tim,
You have a fantastic portfolio!!!
I especially loved the single photos, the Milwaukee Art Museum the interiors with the people are amazing shots, the dog images esp the one with the waterfall, it has a lot of atmosphere, the industrial section I love the strong sharp compositions and the subtle colors used towards the end of the gallery, The serene and peaceful I really loved walk in the snow#5, couple under the umbrealla and sail boats in fog #7 and I really liked the red umbrella series. Not to mention the profile shot you currently have!!!! Hahahaha hope that wasn’t too much feedback – Love it!! it's really inspirational, Good work,
nic :-)

M and Nicky, I pay big money for comments like yours but am a little short on money these days due to the economic conditions and all but maybe later eh? On the serious side, it's comments like yours that drive me to keep lugging my camera around. A big thanks to both of you!

Nice and fine portfolio
Hi, Tim,
I see you are very modest in your opinions. I have enjoyed your portfolio, some of your compositions impacted me deeply, like those with the leaves in dark and some light colours. Some others of your urban compositions in Chicago and other places are very original and creative. Congratulations and thanks for sharing all of them, we see you have worked a lot of time and are thankful for it. Hope we could keep on enjoying your eye and shots. Ikusi arte - see you in basque language. Josemi Gondra.

Tim, I have just realised the folly of my ways ;-) it seems I have never commented on your portfolio even though I've followed your work for some time. One thing that strikes me is the honesty and seeming simplicity of it. This immediately makes your photographs connect powerfully with the viewer. Superlative composition and a superb sense of the evocative add an undeniable, inescapable poignancy. Case in point, I simply could not stop looking at the red umbrella series :) Inspirational stuff. Thanks for sharing a part of your world, and indeed a part of who you are...
