City Life

Silhouettes at the backdrop of city light are marvellous. Incomplete structures are a bit distracting.

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Ken

hi

Dear Pandey, thank you for comment in my gallery, regards from Croatia!

Alberto Mascali , February 12, 2008; 10:22 A.M.

opinion

Dear Friend, i always follow your work, a great work, so i decided to ask you an opinion: you consider a shot as beautiful independently by photoshop?s operations? There is a limit to define a shot as a photograph? Many of us look for the best moment, the best light, the best composition to take a real photo; we are wasting our time? Please let me know. I have added an example of retouching operated by an expert, Pam.R, in a perfect Rarindra Prakarsa style. The magic light of Rarindra (Rarindra is only an example of photoshophotographers; one of many..)! Thank you!

About Photoshopping

Dear Alberto,

I am grateful for your kind comments.

You have raised a hotly debated issue on which, I'm sure, you'd find thousands of pages/threads on the web, some on PN itself. Photoshop or any other image processing application is virtually the darkroom of digital photography. Nothing would exemplify it more than the case of processing RAW files where you have to select the white balance, fine tune the contrast, tonality and sharpness and probably tweak the exposure a point or so either way. However, you'd find that most of these processes have traditionally been carried out on film based exposures too, using chemicals and certain other equipments. As such, all these minor yet subtle changes are intended to bring the photographic output as close to the original subject as possible. This is where an artistic output differs from a forensic reproduction.

However, altering parts of the subject by removing, adding, replacing with alien elements such as false skies, background/foreground, beams of light, colours/objects non-existent in the original frame, are acts which result in digital fantasies, not photographs, and they should be categorized as such.

Further, no amount of digital tinkering can rescue a badly exposed/composed/focused image. Sometimes serious doses of Photoshop are administered to cover up poor attempts which invariably make them all the more pathetic.

Regards.
