Be proud of this portfolio. I sure would be. Great variety with many exceptional images. For trout fishing you should try the Bow River by Calgary some time. It is supposed to be world class. Very scenic as well. Although, I prefer the alpine lakes with a spin rod for the delicious Cuthrout Trout. Freshly simmered in a frying pan over a camping stove.

I could spend hrs rating your photography with 7/7's.. Your use of light, composition, and broad range of ideas and concepts are amazing. That an artist of your caliber considers my work worthy is truly inspiring.

And...that you're using medium and large format only makes me wish that I could see the printed enlargements. They must be incredible!

I found your portfolio today after following the thread about Miner's Castle in Sondra's folder. Always interested in photographers in Michigan...I love the state and although I don't live there anymore, I visit often.

Walter you've certainly got a way with the composition of complex scenes and elements. I especially like the difficult waterfall exposures where there is some bright sky and also darkish water captured with a slow shutter. Excellent.

I love travel photography and you seem to have mastered the art. I'll be checking back periodically for ideas and for a measure of my progress! Especially like the Florence panorama with the big sky and the Schonbrunn Palace. You have a remarkable portfolio.

Thanks Jim! That panorama of Florence is one of my favorites as well; it was warm and windy that day, it is the kind of memory that one would like to hold fast to. I will make a large print of it one day, as soon as I can find the time to do the work-up. Regards.

The beauty of your photography is something to aspire to... very very impressive!

Often, we see great technical efforts without a realistic reference (this is one of my lack :) or realistic photos without great feeling of lights and colours. You are able to achieve harmony of photographic elements with very informative photos. Congratulations.

Your gallery has such vivid and wonderful color. Great sky line pictures; the deviation from the typical shots makes these very original. I think I might give Columbus a try to see if the backyard yields anything.

Walter, I am absolutely not going to pick on you. How could I when your portfolio is absolutley beautiful!? Full of life, great color, eye-catching and any number of other compliments I could think of.

I wanted honest advice/comments/critiques and thats what you gave me and I can only thank you for that. To tell you the truth, every shot in my portfolio is done with a small Sony DSC-T33 and no light source other than what is surrounding me, and for that last series it was a bathroom light. Once I can afford a camera that can give me a little more options and get some more experience under my belt, I hope to buy some external lights and other things but untill then, thats what Im stuck with. I'm not complaining, mind you, Im still having a great time learning. I've only been at this for a few months and comments like yours are what is helping me to learn, so thank you again for your honesty.

Please feel free to stop by any time, I wont learn much unless someone has the gumption to give me an honest report.

Walter, I had to take a look at what you have done in photography, since you seem to be so knowledgeable and articulate in your forum postings. I figured you would be good, and I was not disappointed. Your portfolio is, to me, a very emotional experience. You have gorgeous images to be sure, great color and clarity, but I like how you capture the simple things too; eg. the childhood scenes, the country scenes, things that are beautiful in their own right. After seeking info about Michigan's U.P. on the forum, I found my way to your portfolio. Your collection of images are inspiring and I kept them in mind as I created my own interpretation of some of the waterfalls of the area. I only had two days up there, so I am still looking forward to the day when I can return and capture more of that beautful part of my homestate of Michigan!

I have to admit I use selective colour quite a bit but only to make an impact. Unfortunately, I dont have Photoshop and so I use Picasa (free from Google) and that only allows me to select in circles but here it has served me well!!

Thank you for your input on my thoughts of a blind rating. Your insight to this industry is more than enough to put that thought to rest. At this time I am not that involved with the commercial end of photography and I know that is a every expanding market, but it downside is deadlines I don't like those, I don't like to work under pressure. A good friend of mine did it for over twenty years, product photography weekly flyers. I don't know if he has taken a photo in a long time, sometimes the creativity get lost when money is the object of the subject! Your portfolio is fantastic you have beautiful work here, I see the passion in all of it, that is a gift don't lose that.

Thank you Vrindavan for your visit and thoughtful comments on so many of my photographs! I note your concern about the watermark/copyright. Presently, I am in the process of using the Digimark plugin to actually embed a permanent hidden watermark/copyright into all of my work. It can not be removed and does not interfere with viewing the image but it can be "seen" using Photoshop and other methods. Regards.

I enjoyed checking out the images in your portfolio. I noticed your photo of the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Cleveland. This upcoming Labor Day weekend, on Saturday, it will be open to the public to walk through. It is a great opportunity to take some really cool shots, normally not made available to the public.
